I dont know how any1 could enjoy watching people spam start for an hour...

i just dont understand whose life is so empty/boring that they spend hours a day literally typing "start" just to try to troll other strangers on the internet?

I watched for 10 mins which the first 5 was "wow this is a cool social experiment" and ended with "there are too many scumbags in the world" which is just epitomized when you watch the stream.

Next time you watch the stream, every time someone types "start" try to keep track of out of how many commands, how many were "start" every one of those people were just flat out assholes, out to annoy everyone else.

Puts in perspective just how many assholes there are in society..quite interesting, yet horribly sad/disgusting imo.

You can find explanations for the preference of anarchy on the TPP subreddit. Basically, people enjoy it not only because it's more of a challenge, but also because the numerous failures and struggles of anarchy are what let such an involved and compelling storyline develop within TPP gameplay. Democracy is argued to pretty much make TPP a really slow "Let's Play".

And, as Sakray also said, it's very slow gameplay-wise, even if it's faster progress-wise.

SnowFantasy: Anarchy and Democracy both are really slow "Let's Plays". However, Democracy would, in general, be similar to any other playthrough of Pokemon Red out there, the only difference being that it's way slower. So, pretty boring. Anarchy is not a typical playthrough. Both by accident and through the efforts of trolls, TPP has managed to release several valuable pokemon (including their starter), buy 99 Pokedolls and a fire stone in attempting to buy a water stone, attempt to "use" the S.S. Ticket, Lift Key, the Helix Fossil repeatedly in any and every situation, and fail at many more things constantly. But this is what creates the intricate storyline (summarized well in both of these links) of TPP, and whenever the crowd is somehow successful at accomplishing something, the satisfaction is made all the greater.

Why do you get to decide what is boring?

At least for myself, the issue isn't "They're doing something, and I want it to be something else, not fair!" It's that
1) They are a minority ruining it for the majority
2) They are enjoying messing up everyone else. It's only fun for them because we enjoy what we're doing, and they can mess with us. It's parallel to...I don't know, a kid breaking a toy of another kid, enjoying it just because the second kid can no longer play with it, and rationalizing it as "Well, we both wanted to have fun with it, so why couldn't I do this?"

I could ask the same of you. I can't believe you wrote a whole paragraph about Twitch Plays Pokemon. Take a step back and think about that.

Different people care about different things. I assume you wouldn't blink an eye at TL writers writing paragraphs about StarCraft, yet many people would find this passion repulsive!

I never said anything was repulsive. And I do often "blink an eye" at that, so your assumption is off.

I just think that if you take a step back and think about the big picture, and think about life as a whole, it should be clear that TPP or Starcraft should not be the kind of things that you should let yourself get upset about to the point where you feel the need to write a paragraph about it. It's so trivial and insignificant that getting upset about it and spending time whining about it seems silly.

To a large extent, I agree! And we are totally allowed to focus our time and energy on what we believe is important in life. But I am not more qualified than anyone else to say what other people should be doing. You'll notice that we've spent a lot of time discussing this. Is it a waste of time? Maybe, but not completely. A big part of life for most people is the working out of differences and the building up of each other's understanding. So I guess imo just don't worry

A discussion of what ought to be is always a worthwhile discussion. Those who spend most of their time working out these kinds of questions are the more qualified to say what people should be doing with their lives, since they make it their business and their life's work to employ rational principles in the pursuit of the answers to these questions. While it is possibly true that nobody is in a position to preach, it is my position that philosophers are the best equipped people for giving advice.
