I do however live in Miami, and I have worked extensively on South Beach. The people at Mansion know what they're doing. The club is part of The Opium Group who essentially own all of the high class venues on South Beach. If you train your staff to listen to everything, the way it should be, then they will feel the sound and the room might have a different energy. but since they all prob listen to the same crap, their attitudes were prob hideous. it is never ok to let a rich patron change your business. in all things. sure, the customer is always right, but one? if you book an artist, you are in a contract, for the night. because if he doesnt play up to your expectations, that is your bad. -Edit- There is a fine line in business that is blurred when; money is lost, someone shamelessly plugs themselves by committing a break in contract. It can be done by a band that plays the wrong music or it can be done by a nightclub that kicks an act off the stage. A business can do whatever is in the better interest of said establishment? Not quite. In this situation, with DJ Shadow and Mansion Miami, the cultures are similar but the styles vary. DJ Shadow, one of the best DJ's in the world, has an electronica, chill sound to his music. Mansion Miami features mostly popular House Music acts and rave style music. Where do they meet? Hip Hop. No one does Hip Hop like DJ Shadow does and where in lies the probable reason he was hired. Which proves that there was no reason for him to be fired from his set, the follow-up apology proves this. The actual set is a brilliant work of meshed-up Hip Hop and plethora of assorted sub-genres. Mansion Miami, maybe only subconsciously, stole or attempted to steal fans from DJ Shadow. You see, by kicking him out, and hiring him, a new group of audience is stimulated. It is new business. For the sole reason that DJ Shadows business becomes their business, even if just for the night. They literally attempted to physically take his fans, and business. I say literally because they were present not because of Mansion Miami's reputation, unless they actually were fans, but were for the most part there because he said he was going to be there. It was a pathetic breach of contract, and a shameless attempt at self promotion: The group that dismantled the atomic bomb that is DJ Shadow. It is such an insult, I can't explain this enough, for a business group to expect a different take on club music and then simply attempt to get rid of him for delivering. This happens all the time, in all facets of life, in more ways and shapes than you can possibly imagine. It is almost too complicated to claim. A sort of passive aggressive, reverse phycological attempt at sabotage. When will the greed end? When is it ok for a business to portray being different as a "self plug"? Or, have the gull to to label or be a so called expert on the matter. In the end, this was a just a case of the mansion having a mind of it's own, a monster reacting in the way it was raised. | ||

It's a complete disrespect to an artist and his audience, if you book him - knowing full well what he does - and then say that what he's playing isn't what you wanted. It may have been a genuine mistake and fair enough, these things do happen, but it just seemed to me to be probably caused by some 'VIP' waving money around who didn't happen to be in the mood for Shadow on that particular day. | ||

You know exactly what you're getting when you book DJ Shadow and that's a performance by one of the most consistent and consistently hard-working Producers/DJs in the industry. Right and a club doesn't get a lifeline or a replay flag by right. They should have stuck by DJ Shadow regardless. They closed down his set not even half way through | ||
