Hi all, I've been playing for almost 8 months of Starcraft 2 now. I lost all five placement matches and never touched the game again until I met some gamer friends later on in the school year. I finally got the courage to do the five placement matches and lost them all over again. I have a replay in bronze and I saw the apm, it was 25. I lol'd very hard. Next thing you know, I realized how much I've improved. I've been promo'd to diamond for season 7 and havent played much though for the first month or two. I had 200 bonus pool but I spent it all in 2 days! Steamrolling in diamond probably means I'm gonna get to masters real soon. My APM is currently around 200. I can say this is fricking amazing when I have the same average APM as the pros! So have a look at your APM and use that as a skill measurement! You'll gain confidence and a feeling of self-improvement!

You could potentially get a lot of people telling you that APM isn't really all that important as an indicator of skill, with some hyperbolic examples to back it up (or people going along the "big whoop" line of thought). ;P

I think APM isn't something you should exclusively be trying to practice or something to be looked at purely as a measure of skill. When you get more skillful, you will improve as much as you need to in your handspeed, in order to continue improving your level of multitask/mechanics as you get better in general as a player; however, I'd be careful of viewing it as having a direct relationship skill though yes, of course it will increase as one improves and has to be able to take care of more things per given amount of time, but it's not as if APM alone literally indicates skill. It can give you a confidence boost though :D

Indeed. While there's a positive correlation between APM (or is it eAPM? or EPM? whichever one is truly "efficient/ effective APM"... the one that doesn't include spamming) there's not a causal relationship (e.g. SjoW has low APM- under 100- and is still a good foreigner progamer).

But keep doin what you're doin!

I'm pretty sure I saw Sjow's APM at 150s before, unless you were talking about Blizzard's APM?

You could use this as a pick-up line.

The only legit guy. Thanks dude, people make my blog into shit. Who cares if my post quality is bad? English is not my first language and I don't have a thorough understanding of the game

I had 25 apm up until diamond.

Now in mid masters, I end games with 150 APM or so.

However, in early game spam I can get 500-550 average apm. Now if only I could maintain my spamming throughout the game.

You need to keep spamming, and your raw apm will increase a lot. I find it hard, but you gotta just keep spamming your keyboard all game. Good luck on getting even higher.

I also was put in Bronze after loosing all my placement matches due to no RTS experience, I am currently in Gold league after only playing 4 or 5 months, I find it hard to constantly play which makes it hard for me to improve D:

But Congratulations and goodluck on your way to Masters!

lol 200 apm in diamond you must be spamming stuff for no reason... Im diamond with like 80 apm still easy, won my first 5 matches never played an rts, only played 40 1v1's overall. Can't seem to play games tho, this game is so hard playing a high amount imo overrated in hardness tho.

APM can be fun to look at, but it is by no means an indicator of how well you are playing. You could simply tap a key the whole game and come out with 200 apm. Good job however on getting to diamond.

Thanks dude, but it's not how high the APM is, it's the huge increase of APM what really shows how much I've improved.

Yeah you could get to masters with very little APM, but I just have really fast hands.
