Hey TL,

I'm taking a class in ZBrush (3D modelling software) this semester and I'm supposed to come in next class with some sort of idea of what I'm going to model. I am allowed to come up with my own creature or use an existing design from any sort of media as long as it is an organic being.

That said, I've decided I want to model a unit from BW/SC2 but I'm having trouble choosing one. Suggestions?

I would have to go with a defiler or a dark templar. Both sexy, both biological both guaranteed high distinction.

If I had to pick three that would be cool to see made in a 3D modelling software it would probably be

1. Marine
2. Zealot
3.Immortal

I'm not sure why but I just think these would be cool to see done in your own artistic way! Have fun :D

I would do one of the zerg units, depending on how intensive the detail needs to be. (360 degree view? A hydra is more impressive than a marine). Possibly an ultralisk/mutalisk because they're pretty distinctive "animals" (elephant and dragon with modifications).

you could do adun. that way you generally know what he looks like (given what other protoss look like) but you can be creative and make him look/feel how you want. (thats if you want to create and not just make a model of something thats already fully articulated) =) gl!

It really depends on your skill level. If you're a beginner like it sounds, you probably don't want to start with an extremely complex shape.

So as a beginner you should start out making drones.

Later you should move on to zerglings as they have a slightly more complex shape.

Next level of difficulty is either hydras or mutas.

Once you feel like you can control your space move on to making a lurker.

If you manage to make it further, near to the end of your career, I would suggest making ultralisks and defilers.

But it also depends on your audience. Are you doing doing this for someone who likes terrain? Then two-hatch muta is acceptable. But if you're doing it for a pro, then five-hatch hydra works better.

It slowly got more satirical as I went along. To be honest though, I really think starting with a drone is easier/better starting point. That is if you're going to do a starcraft unit. They're all pretty complex. Actually the scourge might not be too bad either.

The problem with that is that this is for a final project. This isn't my first model but I'm not "good" by any means. I have to balance complexity with sheer cool looking-ness. Though to complete your analogy I should maybe start with a larva
