This is pretty normal at the UW. The undergraduate library computer lab is a freaking League of Legends LAN center all day long.

One of my friends used to play WoW during class in High School. He even paid monthly for a proxy program that would let him connect to the servers.
As for college/uni, I've only seen one person playing games in class on a laptop. Games on smartphones are more popular here.

That's hard for me to believe. I think my school has higher social stigma against it than average or something. The only thing I've seen is one guy playing runescape a few times. More embarrassing than any other game I could imagine.

I watch streams sometimes on the college computer sometimes when I have like 3 hour breaks or even in the library on my laptop when I'm taking a break from studying, but wouldn't really play games, would be far too noisy for other people and I hate noisy people in the library...

Prof is a power hungry dick. If the kid is smart enough to pass the class without paying attention why does that bother the professor so much?

But yeah I see kids playing WoW, SW, SC, etc all the time at school.

because sitting behind some one dicking around on their laptop is distracting. though the prof would be the one to object to that before students would

DId he have sound on?

Regardless you don't drop someone from a class without warning them and potentially screwing up their semester or worse.

My friends and I used to bring AoE2 on flash drives and play using the schools LAN. Good times.

At University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, at around like 12-1 at night, a group of Korean guys and their girlfriend's come and take over this huge computer lab and they basically play SC until like 4-5 AM.

I know this I often study that late, and I'm looking and seeing like oh... the Koreans are back

It's not that strange.

I would never do it because I couldn't play a game without a mouse to save my life. All I play these days is LoL. I think the ammounts of clicks would have me out of the room within five minutes.

But it's not that strange. Some people go and just surf on the internet during a lecture. It's not that impossible to pay half attention. If the lecture is incredibly boring it might even prevent you from going into a comatose state.

I personally think it is because that's the game all my friends and I played in 4th grade. Here we are 10 years later and someone still hasn't grown out of it. It's not like its a classic, its the same old stale repetitive click click with no thinking required.

I thought I'd chime in, I once saw a guy scrolling through a hentai site at the library. It was quite special.

I remember my first semester I took a MIS/CIS elective and a small group of us would be on TL watching streams all the time. Of course the class was a breeze

Someone should step it up and go ask one of these fellows why they do it.

Probably a change of scenery when gaming, or they live at home and they cant camp at home playing games all day.

Where I study there are cafes with free wifi for the students where you can spend your time/don't have to buy anything. It's more comfy there and you don't distract people who want to learn something. But dunno, there where still several people in my classes who played wow all day :/

I wish they'd just shut down the wifi in the lecture rooms cuz 99% of the people using it just surf at failblog/facebook/whatever and distract other students -_-

because it's distracting for everyone else sitting behind him to have a kid sit in lecture playing an fps o.o but seriously why would you ever go to lecture just to game out... just stay at home.

I never how this could be any more distracting than someone taking notes??

people show up because lots of professors have stupid attendance rules to make up for their inability to hold the attention of the room. That, and the off chance there is something said in class that is important, you are there.

Keyboards are fine, but many mise clicks really loudly. That's all I can think about. Little bursts of crazy clicking could really bother me.

Note: At my uni, there are 2 bitches (pardon the vocab) with really fucking loud ASUS laptops that sound as loud as my god damn razer blackwidow. It's annoying as all hell.

I've never ever seen anyone play games in class before. I mean there's always people browsing random stuff like tumblr and facebook, but never playing a video game all-out in the middle of class. It's just bizarre imo lol.

The only thing I could see would be keyboard sound, but so many people use their laptop for notes these days anyway that it would just be drowned out in a sea of the same noise

Still don't get people being distracted by it visually though. Why aren't you focusing on your notes, the professor, or some hot gir lin class like a normal person? Weirdos. Let me slack off in peace
