Buying stuff as opposed to doing stuff

DanielHetberg 141 Posts December 28 2011 14:29 GMT #1 Buying new stuff doesn't equal doing stuff. Doing stuff requires time, whereas buying stuff only requires money. On the other hand, buying stuff is a bit like foreplay to actually doing the stuff, so I'll consider it second best when it comes to my artistic endeavors. Due to my lack of time in the pre-christmas crunch, I honestly haven't spent more than a couple hours total on my baneling or anything else (or writing new blogs, for that matter). I spent the last two weekends before christmas working through in order to be free over christmas and promptly fell sick over christmas itself (flu). Just popped the last antibiotic this morning. Combine that with uncertainty about the future (will be quitting my job in four weeks - of my own volition, though) and general fall depression. I feel thin, like too little butter spread over too much bread, if you know what I mean. I'm trying to compensate by amassing new stuff I haven't had the time to try out yet. Hopefully I'll be able to when I'm unemployed -_- I already talked about the equipment for creating copies of sculptures (still untouched, finishing up the baneling as a test subject first). By the way, I discarded the idea of doing fan art semi professionally, too many legal uncertainties. I might be doing comissions of original or other characters, but not advertising it or anything. What I haven't yet mentioned is my brand new Woodpecker. It's an electric equivalent of a pressurized air-hammer, used for working in marble and similarly hard stones. Really looking forward to using it on two stones I have had sitting on the shelf for far too long, a very nice sky blue alabaster that's unfortunately far too hard to effectively work on manually and a piece of gorgeous white italian marble. The pieces are both in the 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm range. Please comment and give me your opinions on what I should do with them.

MisterD Germany1338 Posts December 28 2011 15:26 GMT #2 two bunnies! and from the rest a few eggs. cause eastern and Christmas is almost the same, right? dunno if these sort of wing-y things are possible, but maybe make a blue tyrael and drill a big hole in his back and attach the these angel wing worm things made from the white marble in there. that would certainly look cool.

Rollin Australia1552 Posts December 28 2011 16:20 GMT #3 Influenza is a virus. Why would you take antibiotics if they don't kill viruses, and instead temporarily weaken your immune system? As a recommendation, if you are sick with an illness you cannot pinpoint as a bacterial infection, don't mindlessly take antibiotics without consulting a medical practitioner first.

DanielHetberg 141 Posts December 28 2011 18:00 GMT #4 The antibiotics were to combat the bacterial superinfection. No worries, my doctor made me do it. We have this thing here called "prescriptions", you can't even buy antibiotics in germany without one ;-)

You should make a mobius strip, and if you're a BW fan you could try making the T1 logo! Or something like an elephant. But that might be too unoriginal. Idk. A baneling?

UltimateHurl Ireland591 Posts December 28 2011 20:22 GMT #7 This seems pretty timely, can't remember where I read it but I remember reading that people often feel like buying things is the same as doing things, and making big commitments to, for example, a new health and fitness plan by buying a treadmill feels great but is actually negative as it becomes a guilty burden. To work through it there needs to be commitment. Anyway, that marble looks gorgeous and I really want to see some nice work out of them. Marble banelings maybe?
