This isn't new by any stretch of the imagination man. Even in BW the STX Soul team had Tossgirl on their roster but she never played any games (broadcast or practice) and didn't even live in the team house. She was there purely as a novelty. Girls can compete but will never be able to compete with the best men. So in the end they are in esports for promotional purposes.

ok but I have a serious question: are you hot? seems like they only recruit hot girls and there are a few GM girls that aren't on a pro team...

Claim you don't want to join a pro team because you don't want to be seen as a model or spokeswoman.

Tease your "fans" that you may return soon.

Women rofl.

when I say return I mean return to streaming/playing with friends only, so it would only be my games that they see, and I almost certainly don't have any "fans" I just thought it would be a little funny to put that instead of friends. Sorry for the confusion!

I apologize on behalf of teamliquid for the comments above mine.

I don't know what's up with the sexism here..

OP I think you must realize that, displayed in the above posts, girls aren't thought of more than just spokespeople in the gaming world for now. However, I do wish you luck in your future endeavors!

I think girls have no place in E-sports right now, because they just act as mascots right now. I don't want to be sexist by the way. I just think that for females to have a real place in E-Sports they need a real tournament infrastructure beforehand. You don't build a house by starting with the roof. I think girls should perform first, gain audience, join teams, ???, profit for everyone!!! Because right now they just join teams because they are cute and then they just don't even play a tournament game.

Like she said though, it's hard to keep improving without a team. So yeah, it's up to the teams to take their contractees seriously and properly invest in training them. Should be regardless of gender of course but it'd be nice if a team would seriously invest in training some female gamers. Hopefully this is what eSahara is doing, right?

Climb the ladder (not meant literally).

Ladder/Replays/Forums.

Then groups of friends.

Customs

Clans

Bigger Clans

Competitive Clans

Sponsored Teams

etc.

Jumping the line from laddering/Replays/Forums/Friends to Sponsored Team because of your gender is a bit silly.

Well yeah, that's what should happen and what is, hopefully, happening.. I wouldn't even mind the "jumping the line" if a team sees true potential. What I disagree with you with is that you say girls have no place at all in esports. I feel it depends on how teams treat them. If a team, f. e. picks up the winner of that zowie cup and says "okay we're going to make a proper sc2 player out of you" then yes girls would have a place.
Also please don't post like fusiondf

it is only hard to keep improving without analytical talent, someone with talent male or female will be able to improve their play with or with no team. And of course if that person indeed has analytical skills he/she will clearly see the difference between their play and the plays of the best, they themselves can easily make the judgement on whether or not to chase this esport dream. It would be pretty stupid for a team to invest on someone who isn't talented enough to make that decision he/herself, unless the team has no intention of investing on that person, instead using that person's gender to promote the team's logo, in that case fuck that team.

This is a fair question... most sc2 girls on pro teams are fairly attractive....

maybe girls get +10 to sexy when they play decently high levels of sc2?

I think its more of a marketing thing tbh, I think many teams are doing it to try and appeal to a bigger crowd. Do i think that these females deserve it? well thats not my judgement call. I do however think that skill is the most important thing but like i said before, the teams aren't recruiting women for skill. Its for exposure.

After reading most posts on this thread I now agree with OP about being mascot for a team.Imagine having these guys walking up to you and asking for an autograph...

Marketing is fine, probably a similar reason why Quantic picked up Destiny, for entertainment value.

But tbh i haven't seen all that much marketing from females from teams, aside from the pick-up onto the team.

I'm pretty sure the entire point is that those teams only pick up female players that will add good publicity (aka are decent looking).
