Kiora lads, I feel New Zealand has some of the best Music in relation to popular music standards as well as the size of this little country. I'm here tonight, to share some of it with you.

My musical background is as follows, I've spent my entire life listening to music as well as playing it from a very young age. I first started playing drums at the tender age of 5. My love for music and more specifically rock was influenced by my father. As a wee lad, I would spend all hours sitting in his work shop whilst he had The Rock pumping (local new Zealand radio station). As I began to grow, so did my love for music. New Zealand music that is.

Although my personal reference is Rock/Metal, this doesn't shy away from the fact that I know smooth, awesome music when I hear it.

New Zealand's most internationally famous, and more than likely most successful band, is Shihad (Aka pacifier for you Americans).

Shihad are a classic Hard Rock band, with a range of great songs that I'm sure the average rock lover will appreciate.

Here are a few key tracks.

1.) Home Again. Always a fan favourite at the big day out, epic to say the least.

More Shihad below.
+ Show Spoiler +
2.) Comfort Me. The song that broke them into the American scene.

3.) You Again. Down to the nitty gritty of 90's grunge.

I feel New Zealand specialises in one field in particular: Dub/Reggae

I present to you, The Black Seeds. Nothing but pure win and awesomeness from these guys. Crack a beer, chill out, and enjoy the beats. All summer long baby.

1.) So True. Instant classic, every New Zealand household has played this song sevenfold during the hot summer days

More Black Seeds below.
+ Show Spoiler +
2.) Cool Me Down. Another classic, soo chill.

3.) Turn it Around. Wooooo kickn back with this one

If you like the sound of these guys, there are plenty more! I recommend Katchafire and Fat Freddies Drop.

Now, my fave. Metal. New Zealand's metal scene is pumping, even with the demise of a few key acts, I feel the scene is still thriving. I present to you.... 8 Foot Sativa.

These guys are New Zealand's premier metal outfit. With grooves that rival that of the powerful American scene.

1.) Chelsea Smile. Classic. Not their heaviest work by any means, but some of the best there is.

More 8 Foot Sativa below.
+ Show Spoiler +
2.) Sleepwalkers. Pretty sick if you ask me

3.) I live my Death. My personal favourite.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh New Zealand music.. So Good Sick back and enjoy I say!

GlHf.

NZ music is absolutely terrible bar a few select shining lights. Fortunately you picked some of the best Concord Dawn and Shapeshifter are definitely holding their own in the DnB scene. Tadpole's first album has some awesome moments as did blindspott's. I have a soft spot for elemenop and salmonella dub as well. Naked and famous are also make some pretty awesome alt.electronic stuff. And of course, sommerset are the rise against of new zealand

I believe it's the main stream. New Zealand's main stream music atm is horrible. There are no decent bands, Tadpole were amazing..

Plenty of good artists out there though. It's just that NZ on air is a double edged sword

Ha, I remember seeing Tadpole at a house party in Kingsland a long time ago when they played in a living room to about 20 people.

The Naked and Famous. Heard them on the radio the other day and I thought it was pretty good. I think it was Young Blood that I heard.
