This is a follow-up from: Stop smoking - No matter what!
Alright, so just got home from school, and I haven't smoked since yesterday. I've had some cravings, as expected, but I've so far resisted the urge to go buy a pack. It's not too bad so far, but I bet it'll get worse as time goes by. I'm still very confident I can stop!
I want to say thanks to all the encouraging words from the other blogpost. Helped me quite a bit this morning when I really wanted a smoke.
Anyway, I'll just update this if I get any more thoughts.

Very proud of ya man! I remember when my dad smoked, it was a huge deal to my little brother and me. We were very worried for him, and it was actually a pretty stressful time. He too has quit and I'm telling ya man it only gets better, not to mention adding years to your life!
Anyways, good luck man. I for one will be checking in on your blogs and rooting for you.

Good on you for quitting.
I highly recommend buying some nicotine gums or patches because they help a lot the first month or so. You need to last atleast 3 months until you overcome the physical craving completely and atleast a few years to say your completely addiction-free. I still sometimes want one when I'm having a drink or stressed though.

Good luck! Just don't cheat and I'm sure you'll get it done.

I found it best to just avoid smokers at all costs for the first week when i quit, and i went through about a pack of gum a day too

Just don't do it! You can quit, man.. Just keep on resisting.

Good for you for taking the initiative
You got this, you've got TL on your side!

The way I quit smoking, is I basically set aside money in a jar anytime I wanted to smoke and didn't. And then at the end of the month I would go buy myself some ridiculously unnecessary item like a nice watch or some new video games. I ended up buying a $200 watch in the first two months >_>, but hey, I haven't smoked since!

good job man. I also recently quit smoking (22 dec 2010) and until now havent touched a smoke. This after being a chain smoker for 6 years. (im 21 now)
the first 3 days are the hardest, but once you get to day 4 its smooth sailing.
I can give you advice that worked for me.
Dont fool yourself into thinking that you are strong enough to handle being around smokers for the first week. Stay away from temptation. Throw all your empty boxes, lighters, ashtrays (however cool they were) and cigs away, or donate them to your favorite charity. Keep yourself busy. At all times. Play a shit load of starcraft or games that need a shit load of thinking when you crave. Try not to advertise that you are trying to quit. Some people will say shitty things that will bring you down. Drink shit tons of water. Sleep alot. Try to stay away from booze for a while. I know that nothing beats a smoke with a beer. But dont.
Lastly dont give up.

wow I would do it the complete other way arround.
1. Go buy apack of cigs and place em well available to you if you can resist that you wont have any problem. 2. stay arround smoker all the time they will make fun of you but if you can resist that you wont have any problem. 3. keep memorable stuff so you can archiv it as memory and no present. look at them from a "ooh I remember one time" standpoint. 4. try to not eat a lot of snacks (generally eat less than usual) as you will get fat fast.
I did it like that my dad did it like that (he ate a lot of snacks and got a lot of weight) and my friends also. Its about your personal strength that you need to build. you need to get into your head that you wont smoke even if you are arround smokers or the possibility of smoking. If you keep stuff aways from you it will help you maybe through the first few days but after that it wil be harder. Just try to 14CC it if your good it will ride you through the rest of your life withouth having to be a fanatic non smoker after.

@ whauz. I did that, the first few times i 'quit' lol. Problem was, everytime someone pissed me off like my gf i would light up. Anyway thats just the first week. Now i can sit in the car with my gf while she smokes and not be bothered. I buy smokes for her and dont get any cravings. I can even drink myself into a coma if i wanted to and not want to smoke.
But i guess to each his own.
All i know is that its totally worth it to quit.

So, it's 16:00 atm and I still haven't smoked. I've been around with some friends that do smoke, but I've managed to stay away from it so far. I dont really feel any temptations atm, so it's alright.
I did throw away all my lighters and ashtrays, mostly because I am confident I wont need em ever again.

So get your GF to quit!
Good luck, OP. Anytime you get a craving just read the posts in your blogs and think of how disappointed and sad you'll make a ton of TL people if you start smoking again.

Yeah, Don't do it for yourself, Do it for teamliquid

I should try to quit coffee. It's such a crutch. Get 5 hours of sleep because of own masochistic SC playing? Eh coffee.
Anyone else quitting stuff? Maybe for New Years? I should quit drinks I think. They are bad. Not that I drink very much.
Switch to Cannabis?
