Do I want it gift wrapped?

"Do you want it gift wrapped?" she asked, thinking that a twenty something year-old male couldn't possibly read Nora Roberts. I mean the cover is a of woman in a wedding dress. No, clearly a gift.

"No," I reply and smile as I rummage through my pockets to pay for the book.

"Oh," she says. "Well, do you want a bag?" I nod and hand her the money.

She hands over my change and the bag with Nora Roberts's "Vision in White," with the woman in the wedding dress on the cover. I walk out of the store with a beaming smile, amused by the cashier's ignorance.

---------------------------------

I had ordered Nora Roberts's "Vision in White" two weeks ago and went to collect it today, because I love a sappy romance novel and Nora Roberts is a pretty good read, and I found it funny how the girl at the counter immediately asked if I wanted it gift wrapped, assuming that me being male, I wouldn't be reading "such drivel" as my father would say.

She was pretty hot, and I was going to say that I'm actually going to read it myself, but it's not like she would rip my clothes off and blow me right there in the bookstore because I happen to read romance novels. Though the thought of opening a gift when I come home regardless of me having bought it was quite inviting. I didn't want to have to clean up the wrapping paper though, as I tend to ravage open my gifts at Christmas or on my birthdays.

Probably she assumed it was a gift for a girlfriend or another female family member. However, I don't think I could ever give a novel away unless I actually knew it was good (obviously I would never subject anyone to the atrocity that is "Twilight", or if I bought a copy for myself to read as well and if it turned out to be shit, I'd return the other copy and buy something better.

It doesn't really feel right to give someone a used gift.

Don't feel bad. It could have been worse.

You: I'd like to purchase this box of condoms, please.
Cashier: Would you like it gift wrapped?

lol

Btw I read Twilight and it was fine....Its not an amazing novel but it's not the butchery of the English language that the masses seem to agree it is.

Its pretty much just like all those other fantasy novels written for a teenage audience...
In Hungry Hungry Hippos there are no such constraints—one can constantly attempt to collect marbles with one’s hippo, limited only by one’s hippo-levering capabilities.

The only experience that I have with romance novels are those cheapo paperbacks with hot women on the front being held by a buff man with a sunset behind them

then u open it up and its a textual sex scene with things like

she holds him tight and squeezes her body to his, sending delightful sailing boats tacking to and fro across the ocean of his back. With her fingertips she sends foam-flecked waves scurrying over his skin...

or

'Baby.' She took my head in both hands and guided it downward, between her fragrant thighs. 'Yoni puja - pray, pray at my portal.'
She was holding my head, murmuring 'Pray,' and I did so, beseeching her with my mouth and tongue, my licking a primitive form of language in a simple prayer. It had always worked before, a language she had taught me herself, the warm muffled tongue.

but respect to the man who goes for it, reading is better than no reading...

Really you should ALWAYS give your books away after reading. This is best! It can be anyone. As soon as you finish reading it, just hand it off. I've done this is food courts or other places like that. Just find someone sitting alone or old and it works out.

Ahh, novel is the greatest gift : ( don't hoard them on a shelf please!!
Each day gets better : )

I see what you mean. But giving someone a used gift for their birthday or w/e seems rather inappropriate in my opinion.
