So, I'm in one of the campus labs, with an assload of homework in front of my face. And here I am, writing this blog instead of writing my criticisms of Aquinas' economic policies... I've thrown myself into some rough waters. Each of my four classes is already nearing the realm of pure hell. For my "easiest" class, I have to read 50 pages of text about ancient economic policies and morality daily, and turn in a written critique each day of class. Most people can do this. But I can't yet. I've been taking nothing but mid-upper Math and lower-mid division economic courses for the last 3 years (mostly graphs and calculus in the econ classes), and I'm now remembering why I loved Math so much: because I hate reading... !!! Yes! I've made it this far in life and in school while lacking such an essential skill! Even with math projects about flux integrals and such, there were still calculations to be done, puzzles to be solved. This cannot be avoided, as there are also history courses in the math department that are required, but the sad fact is that I'm completely out of practice. My attention span has to be less than 12 minutes. That's another thing that made math so great: even those long-ass calculations or difficult proofs could be broken down in pieces, and what you had accomplished will be waiting for you when you returned. When it's just straight up "read pages 37-63," it doesn't work out so well. You've got to be in the zone. I often have to reread the same passages 3 times because I'm not even absorbing what I'm reading because of my lack of interest. There's nothing "boring" this stuff, really. I'm just so apathetic lately. I have to completely revise my study habits, expectations, and priorities that had brought be so much success the last two years. This is rather hilarious, I feel. This shouldn't be so difficult, and it's about time I have to reface my demons. But with my propensity to procrastinate at every given opportunity, this is going to be a hellish course. You don't even want to know about my other courses *shivvers* Anyway, I hope you all have a basic love of reading, or at the very least a tolerance. I would hate for others to be as regrettably foolish as I am. Overcoming self-imposed adversity, awaaaay!

Turn off your computer, television, anything that can cause distractions. Go into pure homework mode. Oh, and have a good mindset. Think "Well, now that I've finished with my homework, I can do things I enjoy and not fail a class."

Only one thing to do. Get off your lazy ass and just do it.

Read Mastery: The Keys To Success and Long Term Fulfillment by George Leonard. Since reading that I hardly ever procrastinate or get bored.

Add 100% isopropyl alcohol or ethyl ether to however much coffee you wish to extract, in a ratio of 50ml/500mg. Caffeine is soluble in most solvents, so as long as you have a non-toxic one that will quickly evaporate (hence the isopropyl or ethyl ether) it should work fine.

Mix the two thoroughly for as long as you can without getting bored. A blnder on the lowest setting works tthe best.

Wait several hours for the coffee grounds to settle to the bottom. You should be left with two layers: One of a dark yellow/brownish liquid, and another of coffee grounds. Allow it to settle until there is no or VERY little particulate matter in the solvent layer, and the coffee grounds on the bottom are fully settled.

Use an eye-dropper to remove the liquid from on top of the grounds. Drop slowly onto a mirror, and allow the solvent time to dissolve. This may take a while, but after the solvent dissolves you will be left with a thin white/yellowish film on the mirror. Using a razor blade, scrape it up to have impure (but at this stage edible) caffeine powder.

To further purify the resulting caffeine powder, re-extract your powder with a different solvent (if you used isopropyl, use ethyl ether and vice versa). After two extractions, you should have about 99% pure caffeine in quantities of up to several grams depending on how much coffee you used.

Alternately, this same extraction can be used on powdered no-doz tablets, black tea, and any other non-toxic plant containing caffeine.

TL;DR: Stimulants help with boring assignments so much it's crazy. Buy some adderall from that twitchy looking guy sitting next to you during a lecture.

Don't try and finish your stuff just so you can get back to 'doing nothing' . Realize that it is actually a hell of a lot more satisfying to devote yourself to a task then to speed through things of value just so you can get back to sitting. and wasting. away.
Each day gets better : )

Wtf kind of advice is this? He needs to deal with this problem. He needs to find a solution that works for him and do it himself. All we can do is advise him on nonretarded things to do.

If it fixes his behavior, is there really a problem?

It's not a permanent fix... and it maybe not even be a short-term fix.
