1. Kobe Bryant
Can the champion from last season repeat? Is #24 trying to 1-up #23? I think the potential to is definitely there from a championship standpoint. He has 4 championships and only needs 2 more to match Jordan, and 3 to beat him. From an individual standpoint, I don't think he has a chance in beating MJ. MJ simply has too many MVP's and scoring titles. It will be interesting to see this season how he leads and carries the Lakers, and if they can do it a 2nd time. The special thing about MJ and his championships are that they were all back-to-back consecutive ones. Will Kobe have the same consistency?
2. Shaq
Shaq has had the opportunity to play side-by-side with the league's top players, such as kobe and dwayne wade. And we've seen the result of what happens when he is placed with elite scorers, they win championships. Now he's sided with Lebron James one of the leagues best scorers and it will be interesting to see whether this combination for Shaq will bring home a championship like it did in the past, and how well these two work together.
3. Lebron James
Last season's MVP is coming back with a strong supporting cast. Will he be able to make MVP again and make it back-to-back? The potential is definitely there with the addition of Shaq and restructuring of the team. It will come down to his ability to score, lead the team and make his teammates better. We will have to just wait and see.
4. Dwayne Wade
Wade is a player that has improved his game since he started in the league. He has grown to be a prolific scorer and has learned the ability to move and score with grace and control. This is something I think many players overlook and fail to refine in their game, its the ability to move gracefully and in control of yourself. Whatever it is, Wade definitely has "it."
5. Blake Griffin
We know Griffin will be a rookie this season, but even so there is an immense amount of pressure on this guy. He is the #1 draft pick playing for the clippers. If Griffin gets injured or if the clippers don't see some improvement with his addition that would be the greatest upset for the clippers. We all remember what happened with a former #1 draft pick not too long ago. Greg Oden who was prospected to be one of the dominant centers in the league, got himself injured and really made little to no impact for the Blazers. Will Griffin be able to make a strong impact and win rookie of the year? The pressure is on.

I'm most intrigued by everyone in SA: how healthy and how active will they be? How will RJ fit in?
I mean... Kobe will be solid and LeBron will be LeBron. I don't expect surprises there really.

disagree with #5 if for no reason other than its the clippers

does anyone else thinks that shaq is already an overrated player?

umm how can Kevin Garnett not be up there? His health directly affects the strength of the Celtics, which are still a legit contender with a full roster.

Because Garnett is a douchebag. And who even cheers for the Celtics anymore. They got their title.

Well, it really depends why you're watching them. Because they're exciting? Because they could change the fortunes of their team?
Players I'd watch due to uncertainty/potential: KG, Gilbert Arenas, Dejuan Blair, Vince Carter, Artest, Greg Oden.
Players I'd watch due to unique talents: lebron james, durant, brandon roy, Dwight Howard, Rajon Rondo.
Interesting to watch players: Shane Battier, Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Love. Wait Kevin Love? I heard he's an amazing rebounder.

I am curious about the Celts as well, especially after Sheed's statement that they can get more than 72 wins. Somehow doubt it, but who knows? Imagine if they got 73 wins but then failed to win the championship?

I'm soo ready to see Shaq and Lebron in action together. One thing I fear is Shaq will slow down their running game. I mean Shaq hurt the Suns imo, their running game declined and very much so(as the statistics show). I really hope the Cavs and scrape a Championship this year, I love to watch Lebron play. Kobe is always there to impress though, his 4th quarter flame is second to none. On a side note, do you know about Tracy McGrady? Is he good to go... or is he still out due to his knee injury? He is truly amazing when he is healthy..

I think the Rockets are hoping T-Mac just retires so his salary comes off the books. They got an exception for Yao, but I think T-Mac still counts against their cap, right?

where is anthony morrow on this list

What Shaq? Hes out of his prime... Kobe and Lebron are very obvious picks.
