Day One Recap and Results
Koreans Rock, but aren't rewarded in the tournament stage.
The day ended with the live audience cheering after receiving a pleasant surprise as England's BlinG upset Korean TvP specialist Polt by a score of 2 – 0. It was one the handful of surprises on the day, though the Korean domination went mostly as expected.
Koreans advance; face each other in the bracket
PuMa, HerO, JYP, TaeJa, Lucky, and Polt all advanced from their groups, with HerO going through to the round of sixteen as the only player with a perfect 6 – 0 record. The Koreans were untroubled for the most part, though a few of them struggled with their weak match-ups. Strelok's solid Terran play proved to be too much for Lucky, while PvT was turned out to be JYP's Achilles heel for the umpteenth time as he dropped a series to DieStar.
JYP and Polt were unable to advance as first place in their groups, and were made to rue it as they drew their Korean brethren in the second round. A single quadrant of the RO16 bracket contains Taeja vs Polt and HerO vs JYP, guaranteeing early knock outs for three of the players who were considered favorites to win it all.
Moon eclipsed
There was one Korean who did not live up to the hype. Moon rode in amidst much speculation about how well he would play after taking a lengthy hiatus from Starcraft II, and many believed the Warcraft III legend could make a triumphant return. It was not to be, as Moon proved to be terribly out of shape, getting eliminated with a 1 – 6 record.
Mild success for Finland, and some foreigner surprises
While Stephano and MaNa showed they deserved to be called favorites by breaking through the group of death, there were unexpected performances abound in the other groups.
Finland's very own Welmu advanced second place in his group, outpacing European giant Kas, and rising star TitaN. Welmu was able to pass through with the narrowest of margins, his 3 – 4 map score being one point better than Kas's 3 – 5. Welmu's countryman elfi also made it through his group in interestingly similar fashion. elfi's 4 – 5 map score was enough to edge out both Jinro and Adelscott, who both had records of 3 – 5. Though Welmu and elfi just barely advanced, it was still a surprising result for the host country who were not expected to do well without Naama competing.
In other groups, DieStar and ClouD finally managed to manifest their online skills in a live tournament, beating Koreans on their way to first place group finishes. Bischu found his way out of a tough group that contained Lucky, Strelok, and Bly, proving he was the best of the three foreigners by defeating the others.

- Game Three: BlinG had a 6 gate scouted and totally repelled, then he held off a nydus and macro'd up to win with big blink stalker+immortal army.
- BlinG 2 - 1 Phoenix.
Polt vs BlinG - SETT TV
- Game One: Polt opened with a two rax attack build that BlinG easily thwarted. Expanding behind it was too greedy a move for Polt, and Bling counter attacked for an easy win.
- Game Two: Quite the epic duel between the two, with multiple momentum swings and action spread across the map. BlinG was just the better player in the end, and took down the TvP specialist.
