One of the founder-owners is a linguistics phd student at Berkeley. Wikipedia has this to say about eudaimonia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eudaimonia .... "sometimes Anglicized as eudemonia". I have never studied Greek in my life, so I don't know how common your "Eudamonia" spelling is, but I've only ever seen it "eudaimonia" or "eudaemonia". Searching for "eudamonia" prompts google to ask me "Did you mean: eudaimonia" so our robot overlords, and I assume, by proxy, the authors of the majority of instantiations of the word, think that actually you misspelled eudaimonia. Anyway, the owners decided that they would take artistic license or something, and came up with their own sort-of "definition" (my use of scare quotes here is intentional) of the word for their own purposes, and that is "happiness through preoccupation". Since the idea of eudaimonia has to do with the happiness that comes out of everything being in its proper place, or the flourishing of humankind, or something handwavy about virtuosity, the owners decided that they liked the name because when we are at this game store, we are all in our proper place (as nerds and gamers), doing things we like (being nerdy and gaming), and, most importantly, we are happy to be part of a community. Also, games are all about rules (sort of) and finding ways to be happy within the framework of these rules (aka manipulating conditions to win, which is what Magic, among other games, are all about). The "through preoccupation" part comes from a sense of self-deprecation, almost--like, the vague sort of arguable "pointlessness" of gaming (again with the scare quotes), since gaming for pleasure is not necessarily a "virtue" as defined by the mainstream and cannot be a "job" or "contribute to the flourishing of humankind" unless you are a pro. We are all preoccupied by fixing our builds, coming up with broken decks, and out-meta-gaming our DM. At this point I would like to state that my opinions on this matter of naming are not officially endorsed by Eudemonia and do not necessarily represent their views.

All I'm saying is that the naming of their store was deliberate and so was the spelling of aforementioned name. LOL

Also, the light going across peoples' faces in the picture is not sunlight. It is the light from the projector. This time, we're going to move the projector and set it up somewhere where the picture can be bigger and more people can see it. However, in the picture, you CAN see sunlight way behind us, against the far back wall, because the sunlight is streaming in from the skylights above. Because we were up all night. We were very tired and the picture was last-minute. I herded everyone together and had actually just found out how to use the timer on my camera, and I had to set it up on the counter on a stack of fat packs. Huzzah!!

TL;DR: I need to get a hobby. I hear playing Starcraft is a good one, or knitting, or maybe singing "TROLLOLOLOLOO HO HO HO HO HOOO" at the top of my lungs. Any suggestions?
