Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.

For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

If someone was gay (a pro gamer for example) and they wanted people to know, they would tell them. If they were gay and they didn't want people to know, they certainly wouldn't like this thread with speculation about them. As many of us know, no one likes a bunch of people banging on their closet. If they were not gay, this thread would probably give them a complex.

TL;DR Don't speculate about people's sexuality. Rather say: x is sooooooo handsome. While it may creep them out a bit, its a safer option.

so two things bugged me for a while.
What's up with all this choice vs born gay argument? I recently heard Herman Cain bring it up and what frightens me is that gay supporters and even gay people themselves support that argument, albeit on a different sides? First of all how would it suddenly limit your constitutional rights if it's your choice to consensually fuck another man?
And second of all what merit is that to measure the legitimacy of something? Would it be okay to murder people if you're born a murder? Or fuck kids because you were born in pedophile? I'm not equating these things to homosexuality, don't get me wrong, but I just don't think it's a good measure to judge by in any way shape or form.

I also like to say, for what it's worth that i am a deeply religious man who supports gay rights. For one you can't strive to create a multicultural country and promise separation of church and state and then pick and choose when you're willing to apply that rule. And secondly a lot of religious people seem to skip on reading the bible. "Do not judge, and you will not be judged". Sort of important bit if you ask me. Just wanted to get it out there that not all christians are mad:D

And another thing, is quiet lighthearted, i was just wondering why is that Britney Spears had become a gay icon? I understand TL is probably not the type of crowd Britney Spears caters too, but maybe someone can give me some insight.

I actually completely agree with you. People wrap themselves up so much in this "is it a choice" thing when it doesn't matter at all.

One complicating matter is that pro-gay people generally just are confused about what people mean when they say homosexuality is a choice; people usually say that meaning that the actual action of having sex with a person of the same gender is a choice, which is quite true. Most people will not agree that people for some reason chose to have a desire to have sex with the same people. Choosing to want something doesn't really make sense in any context.

Most anti-gay people that aren't completely clueless will tell you that yes, many people probably have some sort of desire for homosexual sex that they can't control, but they can control whether they follow through on those desires. Much like what anyone else would say about people who have internalized pedophilic desires, much as you said, or people who are born sociopaths with a desire to kill.

(Similarly, I don't understand why the fuck people spend so much time arguing about homosexuality being "natural" or "unnatural," as if that has any bearing at all on whether it is immoral. I can think of tons of natural things that are completely unacceptable for people to do, and tons of unnatural things that are widely accepted as okay.)

Personally, I'm not entirely sure that sexual preference is as exclusively in-born as most gay rights activists (quite illogically) insist. Evidence seems to point that way, but it's far from proven. There are lots of people who say that they knew they were gay when they were children, but I certainly didn't. I actually had definite heterosexual desires for much of my early adolescence which, for whatever reason, have since completely vanished.

Imagine the following scenario:

A person believes that homosexuality is bad, but that people cannot help it because they are born that way. It has nothing to do with pre-determination and they should not be punished for it. However, it is still bad and they should be "cured" if they can.

If we learn whether homosexuality is a biological or a social construction, it will greatly influence the debate. For example, if it turns out to be a social construction, the person above would like to learn what causes homosexuality and eliminate it. If people are homosexual by nature, there is nothing to do if you don't want to oppress them.

There are many more examples that would be affected, such as: If we believe that homosexuality is wrong and is determined by genes, should we try to eliminate that gene?

WAIT in the OP he is aware that homophobia is a cultural thing, then ignore it and go on with your daily life. Granted I'm a middle class, straight, white, male, teenager so not much inexplicable hate comes my way. IF SOMEONE DOESN'T ENJOY YOUR PRESESNSE ANY MORE BECASUE THEY FOUND OUT YOU ARE GAY FUCK 'EM. Why would you want to be around someone who doesn't respect you for who you are? Why do you lie to people for recognition that don't respect who you really are? (if you think that "ooo otherwise no one would talk/interact to me", or "my parents would disown me" is a bullshit and you know it)

Maybe in canada, you are lucky enough to not experience widespread homophobia, and you are not at risk of getting kicked out of your house for being gay, but I can assure you it is widespread in the states. I have hosted someone in that situation for two days while a family member drove down to pick them up. It happens more than most care to ever think.

And it isnt feasible to just ignore and forget about them, you might have a boss, or a professor or whatever that is homophobic, and you have a choice. Hide who you are, or risk getting fired/getting failed/etc. Racism used to be (and in many places, still is) a cultural thing, does that mean we should ignore racism and go on with our lives? Does that mean MLK should have shut up and sat down, ignoring the hate?

Try living in Uganda. Or any country other than Canada, US, western Europe. you'll be killed in most countries, socially ousted and denigrated in most, and even in these "safe" countries most of the population is against you from the outset. It's been an uphill struggle since we were born. It's not bullshit. You're a conceited and normal person. But it shouldn't take that much effort to see why Mora says these things. If you still think it's bullshit, start acting gay 100% of the time and see what happens.

I personally wouldn't lie to people right now about it if they asked (I've grown more thick skinned and spirited over time and experience), but years ago I would lie because I knew they weren't ready for the truth. I knew it would probably throw me into suicide, as much as I already was. You know how hard the teen years are, I decided to wait until they were over to have my sexual revolution. Indeed, I have "fucked em". And thus have a few good friends.

I know that when I talk about it, I dont honestly assume someone is gay based on how they act for a 4 minute interview and what I have heard from their voice, I do it in the same way as a fangirl being "oooh, he is sooo hot, I wish he would kiss me." It is just attention, I am not calling anyone out from the closet, and while Huk, or any of the other people could be gay, if I learned that information, it would be more of a "cool, someone else I look up to and respect came out as gay, im certainly glad we live in a world where they can do that".

I understand and respect your position, but the only reason that what we are doing could be seen in the way you are describing is because of built in heteronormative tendencies in society.

Also, speculation about every single inane or otherwise detail about a celebrity's private life is part of being a celebrity. It is part of being influential, popular and visible to a lot of people. It would be one thing if I were harassing him on every available interface about his sexuality, messaging him constantly on twitter, jacking his stream chat, blowing up his bnet, PMing him in forums. I, and I certainly hope everyone else, am not doing any of those things, nor would it ever cross my mind to do so. This is equivalent to what I used to do in boarding school: hang out in other gay friend's rooms, talk about random shit and speculate about whether or not someone is gay.

Why label the thread "Gay SC players" then? Why drag SC into it at all, could have namned it "Gay people on TL" or similar.

To the question of why label the thread "gay SC players", because the term "SC player" and "person on TL" are more or less interchangeable. The majority of people on this site play some sort of flavour of SC, and those that haven't or no longer, probably recognise themselves as part of the main corpus of this website, as people that at least know of SC.
And can you imagine if someone came in here and said, "hello I'm gay but I only ever use TL for its HoN thread" Do you think the collective response of the thread would be GTFO? I think not.

In addition, I'll restate what I said at an attempt at clarity. People clearly do care if there are gay SC players, in the same way people clearly do care about if there are SC players who like Kpop.

The original post I responded to seem to suggest that we should only talk about playing Starcraft on this site, and that certainly talking about your sexuality was a waste of time.
I aimed to highlight that we do more on this site than just talk about Starcraft itself, not including talking about Starcraft and sexuality.
Furthermore I want to argue that it is worthwhile to talk to about your sexuality with people that you share something in common, because gay people are a minority, and as bad as this sounds, it makes you different (try talking to a straight person about how they came out of the closet for example, its a non-conversation)
Being a gamer or playing SC is just some comforting common ground. An icebreaker.

Maybe, but I rose to it, because I wanted to show that and why people care.

My point was that should one of our idols really turn out to be gay, speculation such as the last page could make them extremely uncomfortable. What you take from a 4 minute interview, societies heteronormative tendencies and inane details of celebrities aside, (I thought) having been in a closet, and undoubtedly poked and prodded ourselves, would make us a bit more sensitive to details of this nature.

I like a bit of girl talk as much as the next boy but when people start pointing (falsely or not) people out as gay (queue dramatic music) I can only think of myself at high school being one of those people and how awful it was.

Long story short, though I personally dislike it but won't say its wrong, it isn't nice to that person. And we want to be nice. Don't we?

Oh and did you bitches watch my music video I linked? It's like the prettiest song... evar!
