This article is a hyperbole. Rogue has had moments of greatness in the past, he has been considered a great Zerg since at least 2015. No one was laughing him off the stage when he would get knocked out of tourneys, it's not like he had play that was laughable. Another statement from your article is that 'Rogue's play was not as complete as any who has played the game', then you go on to state he lost to Neeb in the ro16... Much more dominant play has been seen in the past. Also $o$ has his name for a reason, in no world does anyone consider Rogue more complete with the 'originator of mind games and strategic preparation' than sOs.

I don't know what else you need from him. To me that was the most impressive run in Blizzcon. And his run in IEM/GSL Super Tournament, it can't get any better !

He's right though, Rogue is at a point where multiple other players have been before (Byun for example). He was succesfull in the last couple of months but will he remain one of the greatest? Like soO and Innovation , or will he fall in the next months just like Byun did after winning Blizzcon?

Im really unhappy Rogue won, and not soO. But come on guys, give him a break. Its just 2 days he won blizzcon and his accomplishments are already questioned? That's just dumb and unfair. Give him time..
Why so serious?

Great article. I couldn't feel happy for Rogue at first, but reading this reminds me how compelling Rogue's story was this year.

I'm excited to see him in GSL next year would be cool to see him win that and keep up his form.

ByuN was a product of a broken unit and a map pool which supported his play style. He was always going to take a step back in performance after the reaper nerf and a change in map pools.

Rogue won using the breadth of his race's tools and is not likely to be devastated by any single change. If Rogue continues to bring the same level of preparation that he did in 2017 to 2018, he's unlikely to take a major step back relative to other Zerg players.

Good read! Although I am too sad that if Innovation hadn't lost to TY, he would definitely beat Rogue in the final!

Sorry, maybe it's just me but I really struggle with these wall of texts. Can't we use some sub headings please? Also like the soO "sisyphus" article, I was looking for more of that Greek sauce somewhere in the article since you already slapped it on the title.

Thanks for the write up! Rogue had a pretty insane season this year and he really bloomed into a deserving world champion.

Rogue changed so much. I hated him in HotS era because of his quick gold hatches and early cheesy games, but now he really plays like an ultimate and experienced zerg. He really deserved the Blizzcon title. When you are ready to play late macro games that means that you are ready for the big spot in eSports. I can't agree about the consistency for Rogue. Not yet. Stats and Innovation were most consistent this year. while Rogue quickly come to the top of the tournaments from the summer with IEM. Consistency mostly belongs to FLASH most of all !
I have to admit that the final against Innovation in the GSL Super Tournament was the highest level of progaming for a long long time and Rogue was in the center of that. Much respect. I am telling this because Blizzcon is not an ultimate scale rather still remains the most epic and commersial tournament for the year. Let's not forget that TY lost /again/ from himself just like always does.
So what I am trying to say is that Rogue's hall of fame is about to begin and Code S as an ultimate challenge is waiting for him. This is good for sport because there are not so many top zergs for the last few years. It is good for the balance. For this reason I am not that hyped for Rogue yet, but only curious. After observing eSports SC for a decade I have seen many stars who came on top and easily were forgotten later. You can play like the best player today, but tomorrow you can't regocnize yourself because you haven't trained enough.

Rogue is like the super zerg. He techs too fast and macros too perfectly. He uses the full array of zerg savagery to its full potential.

Still sad for soO but his run show how of a joke the blizzcon truly is. He got to the final by stomping (7-1 in games) 3 foreigners and beating Gumiho... you can't do that in GSL ST, nor in GSL or SSL.

He stomped foreigners that got there by beating other Koreans. Everytime before the match people were talking about how the foreigner can win, how Neeb is favoured after beating Rogue, etc. But after soO crushed them suddenly they were just bad foreigners that got there through Blizzard rigging.
He also got a good bracket by coming out first out of the strongest RO16 group with both finalists and the strongest foreigner btw.

It's really sad how people blame soO for the bracket. Its absolutely not his fault that TY lost vs. Special, that Dark lost vs. Elazer and Rogue lost vs. Neeb and Stats lost to Special and got eliminated.
Why so serious?

Rogue has been my favorite Zerg since I first saw him play in ProLeague because he always has had a unique style and is smart enough to be able to pull it off even if it's considered "sub-optimal" by others. I don't know what his secret is that made him a macro monster and helped him get over his occasional shakiness, but whatever it is I hope he is able to keep it up!
