You guys are forgetting that the Code A qualifiers is the hardest tournament. It's harder than remaining in Code A and Code S.

Good work Ace, hope you'll be able to following your teammate Parting's example and head straight to Code S.

I like puma and feel like shit cus he didnt make it in. Also is the quote above serious? Cus there are many players who have never been in any Code of the GSL that are getting into Code A. And lets be honest, Demuslim, and the Chinese players don't "deserve" code A no matter how much I like them.
Also I would love to see Demuslim or Xigua beat Puma or sage, or any of the other great players that got knocked out in qualifying.

Just because undeserving players have gotten invites it doesn't mean Puma deserves one.

"Deserve" is such a tricky word.

GOM wants foreign players. Therefore they invite foreign players into the GSL based on how well they've done in international tournaments, and those players "deserve" to be there because GOM has decided that they're good enough to compete. Unfortunately for Puma, he's Korean and Korean-trained. Therefore he needs to qualify the regular way to show GOM he "deserves" to be in the GSL. It's affirmative action.

Q : You came back after five seasons.

I didn't know it had been that long. It maybe because I quitted a game momentarily. When I left MVP I didn't play the game and just rested awhile then started to play again.

So many amazing players can't even qualify for code A even once, but Lure takes 5 months off and gets in. What a boss.

"deserves" is such a bad word to use. Gom knows very well that skill wise foreigners do not deserve to get an automatic seed. Even if they are good enough to be code S caliber, so are many of the Code A applicants who can't get in. Instead sc2 is a business. From a business standpoint they should bring in whoever brings in the most views. The problem is that from this standpoint, they really should be inviting Koreans such as Hero and Puma because they have a large foreign following and happen to be on foreign teams. However if they do this, it sets the precedent that joining a foreigner team is the sure way to get code s. This in turn will destroy the prestige of the league even more so. Obviously by giving foreign invites, the tournament is destroying the prestige, but if they didn't do so we eventually won't have a league from lacking of funding.

My only hope right now is that when Kespa does switch over, they will generate a fully functional, well-funded, and thoroughly viewed league that doesn't need to give need to give out foreign invites to remain sustainable.

It is for these reasons that I really admire and respect Jinro for not taking an invite that he didn't earn. A much more honorable approach when contrasted to Naniwa who took not one, nor two, but THREE code A invites. Then after he failed to qualify ALL 3 times, he gladly took a FREE code S seed, until Gom rescinded it for bad behavior.

Also before people start coming in arguing that Naniwa is code S level, listen to this. Yes, Naniwa may be good enough for code s, BUT so are many of the players still stuck in Code A. There's no reason other than increased viewership that Naniwa should get into Code S for free.

Well, a few things:

1.) I think it's healthier for the sport to foster a more international scene. You reach out to more people, and overall, you have more money flowing into the scene (esp. a scene like SC2, whose Korean scene is like a candle compared to the sun of BW), which will hopefully help it grow. If this means giving out foreign invites, then go ahead. (This coming from someone who doesn't consider nationality when picking players to root for; I'm pretty sure I can count on one hand the number of foreigners I genuinely like to watch play). I don't think "hoping" for KeSPA to come in and completely cut off foreign involvement is good to do for the sake of the sport, even if the alternative means driving down the competition a little.

2.) My issue with the Naniwa argument you're making is that ... well, he clearly pulls in the viewers and a good number of foreign tournament winnings. If they hadn't invited him from MLG, they'd just have ended up inviting another foreigner from MLG who was just overall not as good a player, which would drive down the competition even more.

I really have to disagree with your point 1 here.
Fostering is something that should happen locally.
Fostering is something that should NOT happen in the most prestegious tournament in the world. That is not fostering, that is simply giving "weaker" players a free pass. This kind of stuff is hurting the reputation of the tournament.
person A : "Yea its the biggest tournament in the world with the best players"
person B: All fine and well but how did x got through the qualifiers exactly?"
person A : he didn't, he got a free spot cause he has a different skin color"

Just look at this thread, i hope it was joking but people want to give Puma a free code A spot now as well.
Why? Cause he plays in foreigner tournaments yet he fails to qualify the way the rest does.
Hell now, they even give code S spots away for free, i wonder how this will end...
