that's not right at all. He didn't play new styles, but he played much more calculated and cautious. You never saw any overextention from him here. His choice of strategy was also much better than it used to be. He may've been playing his old stuff, but he played it out a lot better. The way he transitioned out of both failed 2rax was really clever and on point with the timings. It was a strong performance from him. Since he failed to rule out those mistakes for years I almost gave up hope for him, but if he keeps this way of playing his style, which is just more stable, safe and thought out, he can be a top player again. This may've been a huge step for him.

Maybe.

MarineKing main weakness is still his nerves.

Finally back from university, reading up what happened so far, thanks for the LR Kaggy and Wax (lol?)

What did happen in the MKP-Sniper series?

It's pretty hilarious that he still comes out and wins a tournament (or places really highly) every now and then.

MC/MKP are the two anomalies of SC2 (less so MC, as he actually plays normally sometimes)

Seeing your comments, I suppose you dont like MKP? :p

MKP's biggest fans can admit his games often just don't make any sense at all rofl

What an idiot. His style has changed a lot - you realise for the most part of early/mid 2012 he was known to be the best macro terrans?

Oh but he cheeses sometimes still! What an anomaly!

He's known to be the best macro terrans? There's so many of him apparently.

I'm just kidding of course. Yeah, MKP was doing so well at the early part of the year. I just think his game sense is a little off at times.

He has superb macro and mechanics overall. Definitely some of the best in the business in that regard!

MKP's biggest strength is that he has great micro-macro, and can bludgeon about anyone in the the world to death if he can convince them to fight him head on. When he was doing his best earlier this year, MKP basically was ahead of the curve on people because he had so many builds he could blindly executed with no scouting, and still force his opponents into those kind of scenarios (that + he's always been a good cheeser).

To some degree, he can still kinda do that against Protoss players, though all around Protoss defense has gotten tighter, and the players have become more patient. He can't do that at all against Zerg anymore, unless Zerg decides to LET MKP play to his strengths like that by playing muta-ling-bane builds.

game 1: MKP wins with bio vs ling muta bane
game 2: failed proxy rax got scouted into roach ling bane attack that does crippling damage more or less but mkp stays in the game for 10 more min
game 3: 10pool vs 1 proxy rax 1 at home, mkp just moves his rax inside a depot wall. mkp follows it up with bitbybit into win

Yeah, I was not making fun of his macro at all if you read my comment well. Anyway, that's what I'm saying, he's mechanically gifted but his game sense is a little lacking. He moves out at the wrong times and misreads the opponents' build orders.

I'm not talking about him cheesing O_o He's always used a ton of different styles, but at their core they're all unreactive - he'll go pure bio, or pure mech, but regardless of what the fuck the other guy is doing, he'll start with (for example) hellions, add in thors at timing X, push at Y and take his fourth at Z, regardless of a) what the other guy is making b) how his engagements are going c) the way the game in general 'feels'.

I genuinely think when he was making semis/finals he was by far the best player in the world, he just kinda approached the game weirdly (and got nervous, as others have mentioned). The kid is sick talented/innovative, he just plays the game his own way.

Or will Seed steal his soul and make him... *puts on glasses*... sOsuless?

MKP stylistic wise.
Loves to be aggressive all the time.

That's why his style failed so hard when he matches up against Life who counter aggression very well with his constant ling back stab and surround attacks.

Just want to point out that MKP won with bio against a mutaling player transitioning into infestors (which is quite different from the 20+ muta, dedicated mutalingbane styles which are much safer in the midgame against bio).
