Meanwhile, SKT T1 continues on their war path, taking on the leader, Woongjin Stars as well as the once-great CJ Entus. Finally, we have the all-important rematch of KT vs EG-TL, the match that kicked off the season and the rivalry that has been mostly one-sided. Can EG-TL break their curse and finally beat KT? Risk Takers

As we go over the hump for the penultimate round of Proleague, the rankings are slowly stabilizing. Sure, there will still be a lot of jostling in the middle of the pack for those teams that want to squeeze in an entrance into the playoffs, but for most teams, their fate is set. Samsung KHAN is one of the teams that have been stuck in the relative middle for a while, starting the season off very poorly but managing to claw their way out of the pit and started this round in the playoff spot. However, now they’re smack in the middle of the pack, and if they want to make it back in the green, they need to take some risks.

While (P)JangBi and (Z)RorO have been their anchors throughout the season, Samsung has not had a solid and reliable line-up for a while. With (P)Stork underperforming and (Z)Shine and (Z)Solar both failing to step up to the plate, that mantle finally gets passed to the Terrans. While (T)Reality and (T)TurN have both appeared throughout the season, they have only recently pulling their weight, picking up a few wins here and there. However, the new star of Samsung is most definitely (T)Kop, who burst out near the end of the last round and won both his matches. It’s a real wonder why no one decided to field him until Samsung was backed into a corner, but nevertheless he performed admirably against (Z)Savage and (P)Oz.

Fast forward to this week, with KHAN down 1-3, and they decide to start with both Kop and Reality. Now, Samsung is up against EG-TL and Team 8, statistically the two worst teams this season, so this may be an attempt to give the Terrans more experience. Or it may be a show of confidence for the Terrans to finally show their stuff and grab a few mutli-kills in the process. Whatever the reason, Samsung needs to pull these wins out if they want to remain competitive in the standings.

Ground Shakers

While Samsung tries to work to stay in the game, the titans of Proleague, SKT T1 continue their rampage, this time facing Woongjin Stars and CJ Entus. After the performance that Bisu gave last week, SKT T1 must be over the moon and beaming with confidence, as they’ve decided to field yet another Protoss that has been down on his luck, (P)BeSt. The captain of SKT T1 hasn’t really been seen much and whenever he does get fielded he usually loses in a poor fashion. Under the shadows of colossus such as (P)PartinG and (P)Rain, it is obvious that BeSt and the other Protoss players must be feeling a crushing pressure to perform and show their skill.

In any case, SKT1 will employ a similar strategy as when they sent out (P)Bisu If BeSt were to lose early, they will have a bevy of players to choose from, ranging from the reformed Bisu, to the stoic Rain. (T)FanTaSy or one of the many Zergs could take their place as well, as SKT T1 is absolutely filled with capable players. However, this will be a turning point in BeSt’s Proleague career, as an early loss here could spell more absences for the next games, or even spill over to the next round.

While SKT T1 is playing it fast and loose against Woongjin, they aren’t pulling any punches against CJ Entus, fielding PartinG against CJ’s star Zerg, (Z)EffOrt. While the match against Woongjin will sure have a few stellar PvZs, this match promises to be electric from the start, with two excellent players going head to head in what could be a clutch match for CJ. With PartinG getting knocked out of WCS Korea after displaying some fantastic PvZ, EffOrt will be hard pressed to find holes in his opponent’s play that he can exploit as well as (Z)Soulkey did. Unfortunately for CJ, they do not possess the same depth as SKT T1 and can’t simply pull out a multitude of players ready to snipe the Protoss Powerhouse. They do have (Z)Hydra, who is looking sharper than ever in the current round, having bounced back after an abysmal performance in round 4, so they do have at least one player to fall back on if EffOrt doesn’t pull through.

Match of the Week

This section is about the best potential match of the week, by discussing the possible match-ups we could have during the match, and does not necessarily reflect simply on the starters.

KT Rolster vs EG-TL
Starting Map:
(T)Flash < Newkirk Redevelopment Precinct > (T)aLive

4-0, 4-0, 4-0, 4-3. Look familiar? That’s because that’s the history of KT vs EG-TL throughout this season of Proleague. From the start of Proleague, this match has set the tone for EG-TL and with each clash, EG-TL has gotten one step closer to conquering their worst enemy. With the last match, in round 4, it ended in a heart-breaking ace match as (Z)Jaedong took an early lead against (P)Stats and almost had the match in his grasp, but threw away too many units to Stats’ excellent forcefields and colossus micro. Jaedong did not end up pulling a win out for the disheartened EG-TL.

This time it’s back to an all-kill format and similar to the time they got 4-0d by (T)Flash, the Ultimate Weapon himself is kicking things off again. Through this clearly intentional move, KT is looking to snag yet another all-kill for themselves which would not only demoralize EG-TL further, but also give them a good mapscore lead ahead of SKT T1, who they are currently tied with. Starting things off for the foreigner alliance is none other than (T)aLive, who wasn’t present in the previous stomps. This new blood will hopefully increase EG-TL’s chances of success by a fair margin.

However, Flash is still Flash, and as he displayed against (T)INnoVation last week, you can never count him out, even if you think he’s playing poorly or in a slump. Keep in mind though that as we’ve seen from their previous encounters, Flash can still be defeated through a specific strategy that abuses his love for certain openings. If EG-TL can take Flash out in the first few games, they still have to worry about the squadron of Protoss players waiting in the wings, as (P)Zest, (P)Stats and even (P)Puzzle could all come out in quick succession to make short work of any EG-TL player. While the future is grim for our foreigner hope, they’ve only made progress against KT since Coach Park’s arrival, and it isn’t impossible to change a 3-4 loss into a 4-3 win.

Small note for the May 21st match you got STX soul where SKT should be unless TL writers know about a hostile takeover of SKT by STX.

I guess it isn't surprising so many teams are sending out their big guns out. Now that the season is coming to a close, teams want to avoid missing the playoffs due to poor map scores if a tie occurs

Yes..all the way yes!

@EG-TL vs KT_Rolster
I don't think Flash will all-kill, but I still think that KT will take it,
however, judging by Taeja's fb, he'll be in the lineup and we all know how Taeja+All-kill format turns out!

Super excited to see PartinG play. After he pulled off that miracle comeback on Akilon Wastes against Soulkey in WCS Korea, I think he is one of the very few Protoss players left that can be labelled "God", especially in PvZ (Rain has similar, albeit not so dramatic, comebacks in his PvT play recently; titans such as MC and Squirtle have had similar comebacks, but they haven't been in their championship forms for a long time now).

If EG-TL wins every match from here on out, they'll be 22-20 with a decent chance for the playoffs. Anything else probably won't be enough, given their terrible map score so far. So... anyone still believe in that miracle?

Pity that Flash didn't make an AK, and the only way to stop Flash's top macro game is to CHEESE.

Just saw this preview now and I got excited when I saw no mention of EG-TL (it's nice Wunder chose to look at the teams that have a realistic chance of making the playoffs if they step up their game) and then I came to the bottom of the page and read... match-up of the week KT versus EG-TL? KT's on a hot streak and EG-TL is cold as hell. Looks at what happened. You guys need to drop the EG-TL bias somewhere down the road. Save that kind of stuff for LiquidPro. It comes up way too often on your summaries & previews on the main site. There are much, much better match-up's that I would put over the KT versus EG-TL one. KT has been using EG-TL as there whipping post for the last three times they met. That's no where near match-up of the week worthy.
