Code A RO24: Day Three Recap

By: Waxangel

The next season of Code S was filled with four more familiar faces, as the players with more Code S appearances triumphed in every match-up on the final day of Code A.

(Z)Liquid`Zenio 2 – 0 (T)MvPsC

Zenio bounced back from some poor recent performances with a 2 – 0 thrashing of sC, booking his eighth career appearance in Code S.

The first game saw put Zenio put on an impressive display of late game Zerg management, with fluid tech switches and efficient use of units allowing him to pick apart the Terran macro-master. The second game was much more straight forward, with Zenio taking a massive lead with an early roach-baneling bust. sC hung on for as long as he could, but the conclusion was never in doubt.

(T)MarineKingPrime 2 – 1 (P)coL.Killer

The highlight of the series was a comical game one, where the probe Killer sent to build a pylon inside MKP's base was seen entering by MKP's SCV. MKP pretended not to see the probe, and built a fortress with buildings around his mineral line, thwarting the proxy 2-gate rush with tremendous ease. This gave MKP a massive advantage, and he strolled to an easy victory.

Killer hit back in the second game with mid-game DTs into a strong 2/2 colossus timing, but blew an advantage in game three to lose the series. MKP had proxied a barracks near Killer's base, but Killer discovered it and destroyed the building SCV. Killer decided he would go for a one-base blink all-in as a follow-up, but it turned out that MKP was just playing off one base as well, completely thwarting Killer's attack. MKP was able to safely expand off his one base play, build a large army, and attack for an easy win.

(Z)IMNesTea 2 – 0 (T)MvPKeen

NesTea put in one of his most one-sided ZvT performances in months as he made a small step towards putting doubts aside and showing the old Nestea hadn't gone anywhere. While Keen did not look especially sharp, Nestea looked solid in the victories.

The first game was decided by a simply baneling bust from Nestea, easily destroying Keen's too-greedy expansion. Nestea was able to show more of his skills in the second game, including a great simultaneous counter-attack and home defense maneuver that gave him the lead. Keen seemed to be pulling back into a good position after taking three bases, but his poor tank usage saw Nestea sweep through the Terran army with mutas, speedlings, and banes to give him an irreversible advantage.

(T)coL.NaDa 2 – 0 (T)MaruPrime

Like fellow veteran Nestea, Nada put in a very strong performance against a young challenger. The first game saw Nada going pure mech against a bio-mech composition from Maru, where the momentum swung back and forth with the results of some major battles. Nada ended up winning the battle that decided the game for good, where his nearly maxed mech army scored a resounding victory over Maru, despite Maru's advantageous arc.

The second game saw Maru play mech against Nada's mech, but he put up poor resistance unlike the first game. Nada's major tank and viking attack cut through Maru's defenses with ease, crippling Maru's economy and giving Nada a significant lead. Nada let his foot off the pedal to allow Maru more of a comeback than was necessary, but Nada emerged victorious nonetheless.

Games of Note

Zenio vs sC, Game One: A clinic in late ZvT management.

MKP vs Killer, Game One: MKP is a man who was once proxy 2-gated in his main while he was going for a 1-rax expansion. MKP won that game. In this game, he knew that Killer was building gateways in his main, but just pretended not to notice. The outcome was humorous.

Nada vs Maru, Game One: A good old mech vs bio-mech duel, with a decent amount of action and explosions all around.

You can see the first game of each series for free, but more than that, a GSL ticket is needed.

I love these new quick recaps, nice job TL writers!

GSL doesn't release replays at all. You can watch the first game of each series for free on their VoD section but to see the others you need to buy a ticket.
