You guys should do some research because I'm pretty sure you've got it terribly wrong charging $50.
For a start you lose all donations, and then 97%+ of your customer base won't pay.

If the price was $8 you need 20%+ of your users to pay and you end up with more money overall. If Steam is anything to go by your sales would rocket.

I don't know why but I find the price of their premium service insulting. I wouldn't consider spending that for a service as limited as theirs. It's like they don't want to foster any good will with the foreign fans, they just want to rake in as much money in as short time as they can. The price is just so ridiculous for what they offer. Is there a premium service for Korean viewers? I can't imagine that there is, and if there is I doubt it's anywhere near as expensive.

When they announced this tournament I was like "well atleast some of the money is going to go into the cash prize for Valor" it didn't cross my mind that they would attempt to use this tournament to push their premium service in such an aggressive manner.

I would donate $50 to TL in a second, but I'm quickly losing what little faith I had in gom. It can either be greed or stupidity on their part that makes them think anything they offer is worth $50 to me. I know it's a dead horse by now but this tournament has just reminded me how little I understand Gom

i dont get it.. are they really asking for premium service membership (50$) to watch the tastelss/sdm casted vods? I'm sure I'm mistaken and this is not true.

If it is though, its stupid imo. I don't believe people would actually pay for this, and like the above poster points out, it creates negative feelings towards gom

Starting June 5th, match series from the Valor Tournament Round of 16 will be broadcasted on GOMTV.net in premium quality for premium subscribers. Following a wait period standard quality VODs will also appear on GOMTVas well as Starfeeder.

Round of 16 is best of 3, starting map: Outsider

Loser chooses next map, map selection:
Destination, Neo Medusa, Colosseum II, Heartbreak Ridge, Outsider

The first four matches to be cast are:

Idra vs Tarson
Mondragon vs LzGaMer
DiNot vs Strelok
BRAT_OK vs CrayOn

terrible fucking idea.. holy shit. 50$? tl.net coulda asked for half of that for TSL (a tourney that is 10x bigger) and THEY would get no prescribers.. what the fuck is gom thinking?

Aren't they casting replays anyway? Live would be cool, though, yes. It doesn't matter that much in the end, except that proving that GOMTV are a bunch of greedy assholes.

EDIT: Maybe that's a little harsh, but looking at some tournaments like TSL(with like 5 times the prize), or even SC2GG(Staff pays for prizes, free commentary), this just seems... yeah.

I understand the frustration a lot of gamers are feeling about this, this brings up a great topic for a new Blog post hmmz...

Due to timezones, I'm unable to really watch a lot of the "Live" castings on GOMTV, but as a premium subscriber I still will download the 2nd game in 'high quality' in a series while watching the first game in regular quality. By the time the first game is done I'll have the premium video downloaded, that's how I use GOM myself anyways...

I think with StarCraft 2, premium real HD quality will be an even much more better buy.

Unfortunately I feel the same way. GOM just seems to be a money vacuum lately and have definately alienated me as a fan with their ask for donations, and now these premium shenanigans.

The delay period is really vain imo. If people are willing to pay they will be willing to pay I doubt it has any sort of productive repercussion for GOM by annoying its majority viewers.
