I do not know if Rapid frequents tl.net, but I find he made some real progress. He is not hysterical anymore, he is more eloquent than Tastosis, and he surely has stepped up his game sense, which still behind the other casters but that makes him great company. And Cadenzie's knowledge and read in the Group B games was mind-blowing. It's been a pleasure to watch ASL so far; thank you guys for making this so enjoyable!

Regarding the game: Poor JD, but tbh he did not deserve to advance with this performance. He dies often nowadays but at least he dies in a spectacular fashion most of the times. His aggressive style was very entertaining to watch once more. At least my favourite toss, Snow, advanced, it was a good day!

he is a beast commentating sc:r now, i remember when he was casting with this sc2 expro dude, these casts were pure garbage, now Rapid is pure gold.

Rapid has always had the enthusiasm for the game, but in this cast you could tell he knew his shit. He and Artosis talked about how in this season hard work is paying off for players (Rush and Zelot), and the same can be said of Rapid.

Also, a truly momentous moment in time when Zelot beat one of the best of the new (Snow) and one of the best of the old (JD) to advance. He never played in a progaming team or even was a practice partner like Larva was. People like Zelot could very well be the future of Brood War.

What? Are there even 5 Z players doing better than him in tourneys and in sponsored matches? How can you call a top 5 player of any race mediocre? He is not the all-killing monster of old, he does not do amazingly great in 1v1 leaues but still, do you even realize how extremely and impossibly tough it is for players to even qualify? Calling a player like that mediocre does not do him justice at all.
I guess you compare his current form with that of old and this is just not reasonable. Past successes are in no way a guarantee for future ones. He has won every title there was to win in KESPA era, what's surprising that now he is not that motivated to play for 14 hours a day?
I am just glad we are still able to watch those people play and show us the game with the best gameplay.

Also wanna point out lately whenever I turned on JD's stream he was playing, doing anything but not BW (LoL, some football game etc.). He wasn't taking seriously his group. He should've trained more seeing how he fell 0-6 on KSL. I don't know because of his wrists he's not playing anymore or he just doesn't care/lost passion. Sad, because if he really wants to be a champion he can do it, remember when he cameback to BW his first run on ASL, he reached semi's only to be stopped one map away by FlaSh.

For those who still haven't heard of the thread, all the VODs of ASL8 are reposted with spoilers links in the Small Vod Thread, which is basically where I live on a piece of cardboard on TL.

Alright little missy, calm down. Its all relative. Jaedong is mediocre relative to top players, and the way he plays is not conducive to him actually getting better and beating the best. He plays to steal wins from others and even that doesnt work. It is pretty bleak if your a jaedong fan.

I really would like to see Action and Soulkey really break out in this tournament and make it far for a change. They are both good players.

im a fan of zelot but even i would admit that he is pretty limited player. he can beat expros who are stubborn in adapting to his cheeses but lose easily to amateurs who could. he is the amateur version of shine/kwanro basically.

soma has way more potential than him, is younger and has that exclusive opportunity to practise a ton against expros in sponmatches (something which few if any amateurs have the privilege of) and not afraid to play long macro games against them. hes like the amateur version of effort/old jd. was just unlucky to be put in the same group as flash in his hyped debut, i have no doubt he will perform much better in subsequent tourneys

Yeah, Zelot looked nice (I don't know anything about him other than what can be gleaned from this thread) but the future of BW? Snow is volatile vZ, ZvZ is volatile in general, Jaedong is washed, and Bo1s are volatile. Small sample size at the very best.

The keyword was like.

The very fact an amateur who has never been associated with a programing team can advance after beating two excellent ex-pros, even if he played cheesily, means that ex-pros are no longer an impossible obstacle for amateurs to overcome. And remember that Flash too used to be very cheesy in his early days.

not privy to flash's practice games back in 06/07, im pretty sure he had huge latent ability and is already quite the beast in macro, just wasn't GOAT tier yet. only uses cheese as he lacks confidence and thinks cheesing gives him the best chance of winning.

zelot though, i watch his stream over the years...really no lol. cheese/aggression is his defining trait. usually only forced to play macro when his cheese is repelled and then is just serviceable at best, really lacks tempo and urgency that top zergs have. only recently do i see him start practicing more macro games which is a good sign i guess. but if you want actual potential soma is the one to watch.

What do you mean by his physic?
His wrists ? If so, his wrists have nothing to do with all the poor decisions hes made.

Maybe a lot of his bad decisions would have been good if his wrists were good.

yes. i equate his build decisions a lot to his confidence in his physical ability (health is probably the better word). if you only 3hh vs protoss every game in tournaments but you show better games in practice, it is clearly more of a mental thing derived from his confidence in taking games further. in short, i don't think he believes in himself which is a damn shame

Don't know what is up with JD but I'm pretty sure he just doesn't care or have the will to try that hard anymore. While I do agree with most of the sentiments towards JD's play, I don't think it's right to necessarily criticize his decision to go 3hh - it's a strong build and always good to keep your opponent on their toes in a BO1.

On the contrary, JD actually played quite beautifully vs. Snow up until the last quarter of the game when he unfortunately got broken. I thought he was going to win it if he played solid the rest of the way through and finished clearing the bottom right. If he burrowed his lurkers at his hidden expansion and got reinforcements through before his nydus got sniped, it would have gone to the late game. The JD of old probably would've been able to, but yeah, not sure, maybe his mental game also affects his composure as well.

i agree 3hh is always a strong option in zvp; even if you know it's coming it can beat you. the problem is he has pigeon holed into himself into being 2-dimensional in this matchup to the point you can cut so many corners and not have to worry about getting the money probe scout. it's essentially at the blind counter phase and once you are there, 3hh really should never win. and in his last maybe 5-6 televised zvp's he has the same build
