I mean, as soon as Firefist won game 3, it would have made most sense to send out Effort or Iris, the 2 players on CJ with the best vZ right now...

You might think that, but then, why would KT send Firefist when down two to nothing. They could've sent Flash or Luxury or ForGG or even 815 and Tempest. Those guys all are overall better players than Firefist.

Sometimes teams send out what appear to be weaker players because, well, I don't know, I guess they performed well in practice or they have a good strategy. Maybe CJ would've been better prepared with their best players if it was a playoff match, but that's a far cry from not trying.

Orion and Hydra were kind've weird, but hardly unprecedented choices. Effort made complete sense though, because CJ didn't want to run into Flash's TvT for the seventh game with Iris/Skyhigh.

I admit, I don't think KT cares very much about the Master's either - when they played Samsung, Flash would have been a safer bet in ace as he had been practicing so much TvT. And his TvT is just so much better than ForGG's. They probably didn't send him out because they didn't want him to reveal his build for GOM.

That said:

I don't really agree with this because if they sent Iris (who has been practicing TvT, and has played against Flash recently) has a pretty good chance vs him. Plus, it's always great when 2 players meet each other in multiple tourneys/leagues to get revenge or whatnot. The results are not always the same. Plus, from CJ's perspective, if Iris snipes Firefist, then they are 3-1. They can then send Skyhigh, who, although may not win, will tire Flash out if both TvTs go for 30+ minute games. Then send in Effort for the killing blow. That's why I don't think they cared very much... Iris -> Skyhigh -> Effort would have given them more of a chance than Hydra -> Orion -> Effort

I don't think iris would be mentally prepared to take on flash on another TvT. If Iris and flash were to play against each other again last night, I would imagine the thought that iris would be having in his head is "omg, not another TvT with flash", and NOT something like, "I believe I can beat this mofo."

What was shown sunday night wasn't a close series. Iris won the first game through a brilliant strategy, but it was VERY clear to all concerned that he just could not keep up the macro, chess and dropship play that flash displayed. There was no contention afterward the match that flash simply OUTPLAYED iris. NO CONTENTION.

This is a very different scenario compared to Jaedong vs Fantasy Batoo Finals, and the subsequent heartbreak ridge proleague game where fantasy beat jaedong. VERY different. Fantasy was within a drone and 2 zergling's claws away from clinching game 5. It was THAT close.

Iris, on the other hand, was no where near winning another 2 games after set 1, bar another 2 brilliant unseen TvT strategies.
Dumb people don't know that they're dumb.

I'd have to say this 'weaker' CJ lineup is stronger than MBC's strongest, though.

Not entirely, first of all because IriS has been practicing TvT a lot and will be in a poor frame of mine after losing in the GOM finals, which apparently he had been practicing very hard for so it meant something to him, and secondly because that would leave their start player EffOrt to be sniped - it is generally best to save your best player for last to clean up the mess.

Again, IriS probably doesn't want to be facing FlaSh again right now - he was outplayed in the GOM finals and would be mentally and emotionally drained, and probably needs a short break while he can get it. I think CJ seemed to have a plan - beat FireFist in a ZvZ (maybe they confused him with HoeJJa? n_n) and while it might not be a very smart plan (I remember people in winnersleague trying to snipe JD with ZvZ...) it doesn't mean they didn't care. Not caring doesn't mean 'throwing the game away' - they would have suspected OriOn and/or Hydra have a chance (or perhaps they wanted to give Hydra some experience). Also you could say the same about KT not sending Luxury or fOrGG but seeing it payed off no one questions it. If they feel sKyHigh needs more practice time without being under pressure to get back into form then that might be the reason they don't send him, and the reason Luxury might not be appearing for KT.

It's an exhibition match, ofc none of the teams will play all their best players. This is a perfect opportunity to let newer players to get used to the stage without worrying if they lose or not.

Guys, it's fairly well known that the Masters are an off season cup, and AREN'T taken that seriously by the teams. It's used as practice, more or less. Teams use it to get their less experienced players out there so they can get used to playing televised matches.
A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else.

Firefist went for a ridiculously good timing attack on Movie's main when he attempted to expand. Firefist dropped hydra/lurk into Movie's main, and also attacked the nat from 2 directions with lings.

I suppose it's only a AHHH WTF moment if you're cheering for Firefist

Not sure if I can make the OP for tonight's STX Masters, mostly because my internet has been terrible lately (randomly disconnecting every 5-10 minutes and lagging when it is actually up)
<Wolfpox> i remember when MVP beat that one guy, and everyone was like 'whoa' except that penguin dude.

Not at all!
That’s why Flash is not in Blizzcon.
The Masters is KeSPA sanctioned tournament and winners obtained ranking points.
