So I just got a new car (Toyota Corolla LE 2010) and even though it wasn't quite as nice of a car as I wanted, I'm grateful my family was able to get me a new one as my first real car (I've been driving used cars in the past for many years)

I've always been very good at driving (no ticket for 5 years while driving over speed limit) but very noob at taking care of cars.

Since I am starting afresh, I would like to hear some advices on how to take care of a new car.

Here are few things I know of:

Oil Change every 5k miles
Tire Rotation Check every once in a while
Transmission fluid change at 100k miles

But I really don't know other things I'm supposed to do. Anyone got a good list of things I'm supposed to do? I didn't give a shit on my old car because it was a piece of shit that barely ran but I'm really starting to care now

You have been driving for many years and yet your family got you the car? I'm a bit confused.

That does not make you very good at driving. You are not an idiot driver. Great. Excellent, in fact. However, nobody should ever say something like they are an excellent driver (especially if you don't do it for a living).

but very noob at taking care of cars.
Understandable. It's good you want to learn how to do it.

The easiest thing to do is let the dealership check it out every time you get an oil change and just follow along with what they do. If you refuse to let the dealership do everything (which is a common stance for many people) then you are going to need more information than what you can expect from tl. You should study up on this yourself in car communities and anywhere else you can find valid information. I'll agree that you can get away with an oil change every 5k miles but you might want to aim slightly more often than that so you are covered in case it ever gets delayed for whatever reason. I'm not going to try to write a guide on car care right now but if I ever feel like it I'll actually write one for tl.

Timing belt change at 70k.
make sure all the fluids are topped up.
make sure your tyre pressures are all correct.
look for uneven wear on the tyres

I think that figure you gave of 70k for the timing belt varies a lot depending on the type of car, but I'd guess the car manual/website/dealer would be able to tell you what is best for your car. But, yes, the timing belt is VERY important. If you don't change the timing belt when you need to, you could end up with a useless engine.

most modern cars should have a timing chain that shouldn't really require changing at all. tire rotations are generally at 10k and for your corolla you want to do the cross rotation. i dont think you want to wait till 100k to change your transmission fluid but really the best resource (for pretty much all your questions) is your owners manual.
the world's a playground. you know that when you're a kid, but somewhere along the way everyone forgets it.

Timing chains have a longer lifespan than belts, but to say they don't need to be changed is false.
They may not break like belts do, but they stretch over time, eventually the timing gear will jump teeth, and you can end up with severe engine damage, such as bent valves and holes in your pistons.
The recommended replacement interval will be in the owners manual.

Know of any car forums that would help with general maintenance and to learn basics about cars? I have a 2009 Corolla and I should learn how to take care of it myself.
