Hey, this post is a shout out to all the pre-meds out there on the forum. I know there are a number of you, so make a post here!
The road to medical school is arduous, toilsome, grueling, painful (did I miss anything)...so maybe we can gain some support from each other and help each other out.
A little bit about myself: I am a third year, humanities major , and cali resident. I will be starting MCAT prep probably in the summer and take it next year. If anyone is in the application process, hopefully you can give us some tips or whatever =]
Even if you are not premed but are aiming for a health profession, post something here to represent!

Is psychotherapist a "health profession" by your standards?

hpmph... I'm currently studying for my exams on thursday on pharmaceutical chemistry on medicine against infections -_-
I'm on my 4th year in (what I think is properly called in english) Pharmaceutical Sciences (one more remaining) and I can tell you this it's a difficult field, a very interesting one nonetheless. I hope you find great interest in studying this cause it can be a real bitch otherwise (ahem... -_- ). I'm not familiar with the system there so I'm not sure where you stand exactly but anyways.. Good luck with your plans and try to stay focused from the very beginning if you're serious about it, It will only make it easier for you eventually.

What non-mcat med school programs? as far as i knew, all allopathic schools require mcat.

HeyHey, I'm Biology/pre-med... Right now I'm in Ecuador studying at Cuenca's med school for an off-campus sort of program. It's pretty intense/awesome.
It's good to hear from other kids seeing what it's like to maybe do this thing. we took a physiology test that was only 10 freaking questions today...
I just got a TL id and thought, "man, first posts are so awkward"

Hey, welcome to the forum! I'm kinda new as well, lol
Anyway, your off campus program sounds pretty cool. I want to do something really kickass with my summer that will look good on my application, but I don't really know what I want to do yet. Hopefully, I can get something planned and rolling (suggestions of what other premeds are doing in their summer would be helpful =/).
So ya.......applying and getting accepted into med school is like playing against Jaedong while you are blindfolded and have one arm tied down somewhere and he gets a 10 min head start....and also he has mineral hack and maphack -_-

Well, went up to the university of Wisconsin this summer to see what was going on there and they have a summer program for undergraduates in a bunch of different biomedical fields. it's absolutely insane, their program offers a free apartment in madison, food, transportation and a 5,000 dollar stipend. when they told me it was 5000 dollars I said, "What? That's crazy, I make 6.55 an hour in the summer. What's really going on here?" And they told me that it's mostly just a new program and they wanted to attract students away from other places.
It turns out most universities have some kind of program similar to UW's with stipends that average around 2,000 dollars. They pay you to learn, at cool places, with cool people... It's not incredibly easy to be accepted, but because there are a bunch of schools doing it you might as well apply for different places.
I go to a small liberal arts university and the application was like, "you should certainly apply if... you're part of an ethnic minority, from a home under a certain poverty line, a female undergraduate, or go to a small liberal arts school..." what?? lol
But, I'd look at your school first for summer things and then go internet shopping. There's some pretty sweet stuff out there.
