Not everyone has the speed to be a basketball player, not everyone has the smarts to be a chess player, and not everyone has the charisma to be a commentator.

I understand the charm about bringing E Sports and having people listen to you cast great games, but if your genuinely bad at something please do not do it. You cannot practice being more charismatic, you cannot practice being entertaining at the moment, and you cannot practice being outgoing. Your either NATURALLY TALENTED or your NOT.

I mean look at Day 9 does he force himself to be funny and be knowledgeable about the game? No he is a charismatic guy that takes the moment and runs with it. Again I just want to stress this not everyone can be an actor, a comedian, or a ballet dancer. If you can't do something DON'T DO IT.

Now I'm not saying don't be a commentator, but please for the love of god if you stumble on your words, are boring as shit, have no charisma, have no knowledge of the game, and can't entertain the audience, PLEASE rethink your choice of being a commentator. And no commentating more and more does not make you a better commentator. As much as you play basketball you won't be Michael Jordan because some people are genuinely better at certain stuff more than others~

Agreed 100%. You obviously can't improve your game knowledge or speaking skills, god bless whoever tries.

So practice does not make one better at things? Michael Jordan, the poorly used example of "natural talent" was kicked off of his high school basketball team, he certainly displayed no natural talent then. Coincidentally, he only showed true prowess after years of practice, discipline, and hard work. A young Albert Einstein flunked even basic math courses. Unfortunately for him he was never able to improve his initially poor understanding of the subject. I'm also 100% positive that Day[9] was always a charismatic, outgoing person, never a shy, introverted nerd. I'm sure he never put any effort into improving his speaking ability so he could offer clearer analysis during his dailies.

On a non sarcastic note, your post is quite insulting to anybody who has tried to put effort into improving their weaknesses. That's not something that anybody should ever encourage. If it seriously bothers you that much that some casters are not as good as others, don't watch them. I know it would take a lot of effort to give advice to help them improve, but telling them to stop because you don't like them is rather absurd. Boring, entertaining, and charismatic are all opinionated remarks. Don't speak for everybody when you're talking about your own opinions of somebody.

Your last paragraph is pretty hypocritical as it is. You start off with "I'm not saying don't be a commentator," list a bunch of adjectives with a negative connotation, then "ask them to rethink" being a caster. That sounds exactly like you're telling them not to be a commentator to me.

Practice can't fix your physical limitations, but StarCraft is not a game of physical limitations. You don't need to be so tall or so big to play the game. StarCraft and commentating is all about practice. Think about the schedule of progamers -what is it centered on? PRACTICE.

Also, you should put some PRACTICE into fixing your grammar -.-;

Completely disagree. If you are bad at something but get enjoyment from it, you should accept criticism and try your best to improve. How many people have been less talented than their opponents but used pure determination to reach the top in their field? Many. And it's not like there's a universally top caster that is above all the new guys.

Edit: If anything, the people who are bad at commentating but improve get more respect from me than the opposite.

You should watch day9's first dailies; its interesting to see how much he has improved even from that point where he was already quite experienced. Even a person is not so good at commentating and wants to be better that person should commentate even more.

I hate the whole "naturally talented" argument. More often then not people who seem to have that natural talent for something have thousands of hours of practice behind it.

I have to disagree as well. You can't tell me I'm not going to be more charismatic if I'm sitting on the big stage being streamed live to thousands of viewers casting top level players than if I'm sitting here at home by myself casting my ladder games as I go.

I agree to the fullest. I was never good at drawing, but always liked it and had respect for the people who could show amazing details. Two years ago, I wanted to learn, and had the motivation. At first, I was VERY bad, like laughable bad. But I thought it was fun, and kept on going. Now I've been drawing for two years, spending COUNTLESS of hours. My sketches look amazing (self-promotion, fuck yeah), but all I hear is about my "natural talent", and "everybody is not born with that talent". Atleast I know that I worked hard for it, but it's still pretty "meh" to hear it all the time and not respect my motivation to improve.

That's extremely accurate. Though to be honest there really are casters out there that have REALLY annoying voices and they can't really fix that. But i believe anything other than that can certainly be improved upon.

Natural talent is such bullshit, anyone good at anything worked to get where they are in some shape or form. Maybe really good casters didnt cast for the first 18 years of their lives, but i bet they did lots of public speaking, or worked at being the most outspoken person in their group of friends etc etc.
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

Not everyone has the speed to be a basketball player, not everyone has the smarts to be a chess player, and not everyone has the wit to be a good blogger.

I understand the charm about speaking your opinion and having people listen to you talk, but if your genuinely bad at something please do not do it. You cannot practice being more intelligent, you cannot practice being good with spelling and grammar, and you cannot practice making criticism in a thoughtful way. Your either NATURALLY TALENTED or your NOT.

I mean look at FuDDx does he force himself to be funny and be knowledgeable in his blogs? No he is an interesting guy that writes about his experiences and runs with it. The problem is many of the new commentators don't want to improve their game knowledge (i.e. don't play themselves) and will get really childish and pissy every time they see criticism and probably just ban you from the stream.

People like Day9, Tasteless and Artosis, who actually play the game will always garnish more respect and are extremely rare.
