So when I see he's going 1 base I proceed to 3 hat muta. Then my ovy takes a peak in his main I see this super fast stargate. Oh crap, plop down a hydra den but I end up losing 5+ ovys or something. Then DTs UTTERLY DESTROY my main except for my pool. I'm like its ok, he's still on 1 base. I take my main and a third while he constantly throws units at my nat. I think at several points I had no drones there. >.< But after several pushes and my third running I rode the advantage to victory!! I eventually lurker contained him at his 2 bridges and proceeded to ultras. What was really funny was I had like a control group of lurkers all clumped up and morphing and he stormed them all with 6 or so temps!! haha, thank god they morphed to healthy lurkys. Then doooom droooopuuuu into guardians since he massed cannons at his nat.
Pffft D+ EZ  Goes to show you really, NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER.

I'm a D/D+ terran and I beat a protoss who was B- in a previous season. I was SO stoked but I when I watched the replay I noticed he pretty much played horribly. Guess he must have cheesed his way up? Or stat abused?

Sometimes these players with decent rank are just offracing.

As someone else pointed out the most logical explanation would be that it was his off race for the season... even though that record seems a bit poor I guess...

Quite likely offracing or sharing/messing around.
I beat a B- terran while I was a D+ Protoss. Short look at his race stats showed that his main was protoss, which blew away most of my feeling of accomplishment.

I played him before, and yes I can pretty much say that he cheesed his way up to C+ given his playing ability

I think you guys underestimate the way ladder works. Ladder is, for the most part, a lottery draw of who you face against, which could be a player you don't do well in terms of style, what maps and strategies according to those maps are popular, a player that's simply better or worse, or a player that catches you on a good or bad day.
Furthermore, the time of season you play, relative to how deep the pool of sharks are out there affects how well you do in terms of ladder performance. Given my records, for example, I hit B- with 95-77 before in one season, yet I could barely hold C with something like a 90-135 record in another.
This case does seem a bit extreme, but I could see how that works out. Especially if you abuse. Just look at combat-ex.
