hey TL, I'm pretty new to cassette decks (I've never owned a decent one) and I've been doing some research these past few days.. and of course, with my luck, everybody recommends older cassette decks, claiming modern ones aren't as high quality. Of course I've no reason not to believe them since 90% of the cassette decks I've seen in stores around town are shitty dubbing decks for sub-$150 - not what I'm looking for.. But still, being old, I'm sure most of them will be in need of servicing.

My question is, how much would it cost to replace the belt(s), and rebuild/replace the motor which operates the play/rewind/fast forward buttons on a nakamichi BX-300? Is it even possible to find replacement parts for one these days without buying another cassette deck and taking it apart?

Thx ^_^

Alot of people over 20 have alot of cassettes just collected up I think. And theres also some cassette only releases still done.

I'd want a floppy disk station too... Some really nice games and such there but luckily most of it can be dl'ed now.
If you have to ask, you don't know.

Pretty much this.
I've collected quite a few highly-limited cassettes that I'd like to rip properly.

Your best bet is to get two and scavenge... it will likely be impossible to find spare parts. Although you might be able to improvise with a similar make of deck.

mm, i guess that's the best option for me... I'm glad these things aren't $750 these days, lol

Oh, also; do nakamichi bx-150s and similarly named items (bx-100, bx-300, etc) share similar parts?
Like, could I buy a bx-150 and use some of the parts for a 300 and vice-versa?
I'm pretty sure it's possible since the topic was lightly touched already but I wanna be sure I'm not wasting my money.

What are they? Just curious…

I bought a tape deck recently (~1980 Harman Kardon model) and one cassette-only release (MillionYoung's Be So True EP). The only other recent cassette-only release I'm aware of is Washed Out's High Times.

The 2 tapes I own that are actually worth anything (anything being more than $40, to fans of the genre/artists) are Dreaming Muzak by Troum and Compositions For Cassette by Celer

The former is ltd to 100 hand-numbered copies, packaged in a tiny little hand-made pillow case, originally released in 1998... My copy still has paper covering the reels which means it's either unplayed or the original owner replaced it. Looks real though.

The ladder is ltd to 135 copies. It's been played before, though I'm not sure how many times.
