So basically I got in a car accident and my driver's side headlight is kind messed up. But I need to drive to St. Louis (about 4 hours) this Friday night to visit my girlfriend. And the shops can't do a new headlight until next week. So, I'm left with three options.
(1) Postpone my trip till Saturday morning.
(2) Try to drive on the interstates at night with one headlight.
(3) Make my own headlight and use it for the time being.
Basically, I don't think (2) is a good idea, but I don't want to resort to (1). So what I'm presently thinking is that I get a lamp frame that can take two or three bulbs, put two/three bright bulbs in those and duct-tape it to the car, and wire them through a DC converter inside the car. The other option is to get a flood light and duct-tape that to the car. This has the problem of me having no control over it.
So, great TL people, what should I do and why should I do it? And if you think (3) is a good idea, give me some advice on how to do it.

Lol, if you are capable of rednecking it, then I would go with 3. Otherwise postpone the trip.

Wouldnt you get pulled over by the police for both 2 and 3? or is it legal for you to drive with 1 headlight in your area?

yeah but there is a reason why products have to pass safety inspections ETC. If its deemed unsafe by a police officer, then he's gonna ticket you regardless if its a light and if its on your car. Unless you are a certified electrician etc, how do you know that it wont short out or catch fire?
In my province, doing this would result in a fine, no matter what.

He's not allowed to drive the vehicle with only 1 working headlight at night. That is illegal in all US states. You must have 2 functioning headlights when using them.
I just looked it up, and it is also illegal to use any homemade device that doesn't pass industry standards on the vehicle. They also have laws that require headlights to have a minumum distance with their light, as well as the color. There are many factors that need to be filled, so rigging up some homemade light is only going to give you a fine if caught.

or you can go for #4 - go find another shop or rig a approved headlight yourself? Is it just the headlight part that is broken? Or is an entire side broken? Cus from the way you worded it, it sounds like only the light is broken.

rig it so your light illuminates enough so that if a cop stops you you will only get a warning. Tell him you weren't aware.
