TEAM UNIFORM POWER RANKING
It's no secret that nerds are generally not known for their fashion sense. However, a smart, savvy nerd knows to hire people who do have good fashion sense to tell them how to dress. The sad reality is though that this reality aludes some of the teams that we all know and love, leading them deap into the pits of ugly sweaters and t-shirts that are worse than the clothing your out-of-touch grandma buys you for christmas. There are few that manage to overcome this fashion-blindness though, and put together a slick uniform that turns bonjwas into sexy bonjwas and scrubs into scrubs who at least dress well. This is a celebration of the good and the bad. For the purpose of brevity, this will only be a ranking of current uniforms. Let's start with the cream of the Proleague crop.
Proleague Teams
1. SK Telecom T1
Surprisingly slick for the simplicity, SKT styles on the competition with their newest look, building on their running string of good uniforms. Both comfy looking and easy on the eyes, they manage to plug the sponsors without them being distracting, and hit a nice middle ground of jocky yet casual. They do however, lose some points for their boring, plain white tees, but that's not enough to hold them back from being the #1 Korean team.
2. SBENU
The newly renamed Sbenu, currently the #1 team in Proleague, came so, so close to being the first place team in terms of fashion too. Clean as hell with no patches or out of place logos and sharp to boot, the only thing holding these otherwise dashing, memorable ones back is the uneven shoulder and armpit design, which is both distracting and unneccessary. Other than that, STYLE START SBENU.
3. CJ Entus
Consistancy is king, and sadly CJ does not have consistancy in their dresswear. Players are seen wearing both Grey and Black sweaters, seemingly randomly, and it throws the whole dynamic off. This isn't soccer where the goalies need to have a different color to be easily distinguishable, this is Starcraft. Other than that minor but infuriating gribe, CJ's sweaters are good, all-around casual but classy. A solid choice for a solid team.
4. MVP
There are several problems with MVP's uniforms. The color scheme of white with red and yellow stripes doesn't really go with the blue logo of both their primary sponsor and their team for one (although SKT sort of does the same thing they rock it better). The big issue here though is patches. These could have been so much better if the sponsor logos were just put in better positions, on the sleaves or something else than in weird spots like above the team logo and on the from of the shoulders. Really disappointing way to wreck and otherwise okay design that still somehow manages to be above average for Proleague.
5. Samsung Galaxy Khan
Here we have what i'd consider complete middle of the road. While there's nothing obviously wrong with the Samsung shirts, in fact the sponsor logo patch placement is probably the best of all the teams, the simple but damning issue is they're just so boring. There's nothing to them, they have a tiny little bit of blue on it but you couldn't tell from even a small distance and they're completely forgetable. While the sweaters are slightly better with the arm stripes, the fact that their's almost no pictures of them wearing them makes it basically irrelevant. Samsung manages to be both the least interesting team in Proleage and have the least interesting uniforms.
6. Jin Air Green Wings
With all due respect for being a bit creative, much like TLO, creativity gets you nowhere without decent results. And the result of the newest JAGW design disaster is that the formitable and dangerous team comes off looking like a bunch of dorks. There's no way whoever thought this design was cool was drunk when they came up with it. The red tie variation of them are no better, either. The tie-less variation of these uniforms also exists, but they're just as boring as Samsung's.
7. KT Rolster
"Welcome to KTDonalds sir, can I take your order?" KT Rolster forgot they're one of the greatest teams in the history of esports and mistakenly thought they were a lousy fast-food chain. While I can give them some props for not any black or white in their main color scheme unlike basically every other team, the fact of the matter is these things are just ugly and totally unfitting of a team of KT's legacy. The mismatching sleeves and the gaudy colors, KT manages to be the clowns of Proleague, someone get Flash a big red nose please. The only one who manages to make these look almost not terrible is Zest, but Zest has the ability to make anything look good so that doesn't count.
8. Prime
Okay, pretend you don't know nothing about Starcraft. Just looking at these shirts, please tell me what this team is called. Are they KTC? Are they Cherry? Oh, it says Invictus Gaming in visible lettering, they must be Invictus! Oh wait, you're telling me they're called Prime? Well how can you tell when the logo is almost complete neglected, relegated to a tiny almost unnoticeable patch that isn't even on all the shirts?! I know featuring the sponsors in the center of the uniform is the norm in European soccer, but once again this isn't soccer this is Starcraft. The plain white tees with just a bunch of sponsors slapped on scream "this team is poor and makes poor decisions". I breaks my heart how much these shirts represent the state of Prime in this day and age. They're not even ugly, they're just sad to look at.
Non-Proleague Teams
For the obvious reason that there are a lot of non-Proleague teams, I can't include them all but I'll try to include a good number of them. Any teams not listed are just not notable enough or don't have a uniform notable enough to list. These uniforms are the most up to date ones to my knowledge, let me know if I'm wrong on some cause I probably am.
1. Team Liquid
Dem jackets, that is all. ->->-> http://www.teamliquid.net/store/us/teamliquid/jackets/team-liquid-jacket <-<-<-
2. Yoe Flash Wolves
When the top google result for your team is "yoe flash wolves shirt", you know you're doing something right with your uniform. Though there new dark blue jackets are nothing especially special, the black and gold shirt are an absolute classic, even people not into esports would wear it, and their simple existance earns yFw this spot on this list.
Okay, let's get this out of the way now. From here on out they aren't good. There's only varying kinds of mediocre and bad. But anyway let's go.
3. TCM Gaming
Middle of the road perhaps, but they're neat, organized, you know darn well what team it is. These are actually okay, but they're plain as can be. The minimun for what a team uniform should be.
4. Team Acer
Note: please forgive the non-Starcraft people, there aren't a lot of good pics
Gone is the bright ugly green Kermit hoodies of the past, now we have the slightly less ugly white and green hoodies and shirts! The decision to write the players names across the breast is a little weird, but other than that not too awful. Why they didn't stick with the black and green ones they had before which looked good I'll never know but whatever, the fact that they have just improved so much over the TOTAL GREEN they had before gives them a higher ranking.
5. ROOT Gaming
The only good picture I could find
The black and bright blue color scheme is neat at least, and the logo is certainly unmistakeable, actually manages to be one of the more memorable uniforms of one of the last remaining NA teams.
6. Evil Geniuses
A neat logo I guess, but that's all the EG uniform has going for it. The velcro sucks, the t-shirt is boring, and EG manages to actually be the last place NA team in this ranking.
7. Mousesport
if there's one nice thing to be said about Mousesports, its that they dare to be bright. Though their Starcraft team maybe dwindling, their bright red is quite recognizable, and that counts for something, right?
8. Millenium
There's two important things to note about Millenium. First, their purple isn't very good looking. Second, they seem to have changed uniform quite a few times and it's suprisingly difficult to find a good image. So those two combined give them a very low ranking.
9. Dead Pixels
Welp, that's them. They're boring. The logo's nice, and they at least look comfy, but wow, there's so little to say about these I'm not even sure why I included them.
10. mYinsanity
Sigh... I have to break it to you guys. I hate mYinsanity's uniforms. They're silly looking. The logo is silly looking. The fact that they have their webstie at a weird angle across the front is silly. They're just a bad t-shirt. I like the team, but please get new uniforms guys, you deserve better.
