Amateur Kim Song Woon: "I dream of becoming a Progamer"
- Can you introduce yourself? ▲ Hello! I'm the 2010 amateur representative Kim Song Woon. I'm a Zerg user, and I've only played Starcraft for a year and a half. I hope to become a progamer currently.
- You managed to take a game against Effort ▲ I wanted to damage him a little with the first Zerglings and try to get ahead on the [next Zerglings], but I think I got really lucky. After I won, I thought "Did I really just win?" and my mind went completely dull.
- You looked extremely comfortable through the Cameras. ▲ I thought I would be extremely nervous, but perhaps because there weren't many people in the audience, I wasn't that nervous. I couldn't believe that I had won, and because it was just amazing that I was sitting in the playing seats, I couldn't help myself but keep laughing. It was a really fun experience.
- After you took the first set, you were losing one-sidedly on the second and third sets. ▲ After I won the first game, Effort, in the second set, didn't use a build I thought he would use and played offensively. So the game went to him easily, and in the 3rd set, it was a chaotic bloodbath where I felt the difference between a progamer and an amateur.
- We heard that you were really happy after hearing that you would be playing against Effort. ▲ Out of the four people I could be playing, he was my favorite, and I was happy that I would be playing against someone who had won a Starleague.
- Is there any players you like, or players you would want to be like? ▲ I like all the Zerg players, but I like Jaedong, Effort, and Zero the most. As I [T/N: or "they"] play the game, I feel that they are really amazing and think they are very cool.
- Is there a reason you want to be a progamer? ▲ When I went to school, I didn't play Starcraft and enjoyed playing Fifa or Sudden Attack instead. Even though I didn't know much about Starcraft, I always watched the game. As I kept going to school, I thought that I wanted to play games at that kind of stage, and started really playing Starcraft. I played with all the races, but strangely, I was attracted to Zerg.
- Do you think you have talent? ▲ When I first started, I thought I was getting better faster than other kids, but there were times I was disappointed because I kept failing Courage. But because I keep trying, I was able to get lucky like today.
- We heard that you got an offer to take a test from a certain Progame team. ▲ It's an extremely good thing from a perspective from an Amateur. I hope I do well and conclude it well.
- Is there anything you want to say? ▲ I was extremely happy that I somehow got an opportunity to come out in a broadcast. I want to keep feeling things like this in the future and I will do my best to become a cool Progamer.

SC2 is a much easier game than BW. BW progamers will take little time figuring out SC2's basics. If my point isn't obvious enough it isn't the end of the road for BW newcomers.
In programming, it's like learning Java then moving to Javascript (aka it's a cakewalk).
Great kid. He made a show of his games though in game 2 he kind of died immediately due to build order. But in game 3 he again showed some good skills.
i feel so bad for korean amateurs. they could probably easily beat all foreigners at WCG but can never go because they aren't as good as the progamers :\
I saw his games yesterday, they were really great! He made some mistakes (during the attack at his nat in the second set he left a ling or two idle, forgot to use his mutas at the end of game one), but who wouldn't in his shoes, really? He played great games against one of the best zergs in the world, and that should be commended.
I hope to see more of his play in the coming years. Maybe he'll turn out to be one of the great innovators.
I was mad because he beat Effort once, but I was glad that there is a Zerg rising star, I hope to see him in the future . And its nice to see a progamer smiling so much, they always look so depressed.

Yeah. He looks so innocent and bright, and I would hate to them quickly fade away under stress and fatigue.

The funny part is that there is pretty much no mention of SC2 anywhere in the Korean progaming scene. This is especially emphasized by SC2's complete flop of a debut in Korea. The SC2 competitive scene is entirely fueled by foreigners who are frustrated at never being able to beat Koreans in BW. I know that the only reason I ever have considered playing SC2 is the thought of being able to be considered "good." Then I remember that BW is a more fun game.
Yeah, aside from the Hwanni interview, there's pretty much no evidence that Korea will switch to SC2 any time soon.
this dude is so cool ! and he could take a game off Effort after only 1 year and a half ! I wish him all the best !
And I'm so glad he didn't say anything like "I am good at bw and love it, but I think I could make more money training hard on SC2, so I am planning to become a SC2 progamer"
if he does decide to become a progamer, he'll probably have a tough road ahead of him, but gl to him. also, iirc from the livestream, didn't they say something about him being an online practice partner w/skt1 (i might be wrong, but i think that's what people were saying in chat)?
Such great potential... I hope Blizzard never destroys the SC1 scene so kids like him don't feel like they've wasted their entire lives on a game that won't have a pro scene. That would be devastating
Probably there's many pros who've improved as fast or faster than him. For example I remember TurN from Khan saying he started playing seriously in 1st high school year and he was doing 2nd year when doing his 1st PL winners interview. And that's someone who hasn't done anything significant since :/

so hes amazing in a short amount of time ^___^ almost purely due to mutas...... jk kolll is awesome ^_^ and this kid beat EFFORT after 1 year... :O i get the idea that he will be great sometime soon...or just dissapear and never be seen again
Hope he gets to be a progamer. I'd hope he would go to Hite because they are seriously lacking members, and also that would allow him to get some televised games in.
Wow 1 and a half years? That's about as hard for me to believe as Koll's infamous "I get B- first season" (or something along those lines). Not that he's a liar, just that he's fucking baller.
