Peter vs. Soo. Group6 Minor League Decision Game

We haven't seen these two for a long time.

This is Peter from Hexatron...

and this is Soo who showed us some good games in the team leagues.

The first game is on Luna. Let's go.

One Two Three! Park Jong Soo fighting!

Peter fighting!

All right! This is Peter's base. He has the 5 o'clock spot.

And, on his left side...

There's Soo's base.

The white Protoss is Soo and the brown Protoss is Peter.

(Garimto) I really wanted to see them battle on an island map.

Foreign players often use unorthodox play on island maps

and by doing that, they lead the games.

You mean Reaver play?

Ah. For example, a long time ago, Protoss used to dominate Terran on island maps.

Korean Terran users found out the solution

by learning from foreign Terran players.

I see one of Peter's Probe is idling.

The one near the Mineral Field, is doing nothing.

Oh, it's mining now.

Well it's not a really big deal. -Hahaha.

When you look at Peter's past games,

you may remember his game on Dark Sauron.

He utilized a mineral-only expansion where no one pays attention,

and dominated the SG Family team, which is now Pantech and Curitel.

It was a special team league game though.

Since it was not an official league,

I assume he wants to show us good games on official team leagues.

But Hexatron isn't really doing well now. They were eliminated.

They've gotta step up in the league.

They have lots of talented players.

The first obstacle of 2005 is the Minor League.

After the Team League and Stove Leagues are over, there will be a Qualifying League. So, we will see.

In order to compete, you need to achieve a good score in the individual league

so you can play better in upcoming team leagues and others.

They are aware of Manner Pylon play.

Especially in front of those two minerals. -So they made a Pylon right there.

I see Soo's Zealot.

And then..

That Zealot will follow around the Probe.

but it's really hard to kill the Probe.

The Probe should survive until a Dragoon comes out.

Peter's Probe is..? -It's hiding under Soo's base.

Peter is making a Cybernetics Core and sending his Zealot,

but two Zealots are blocking the entrance.

Since Soo's Probe saw that Peter's Zealot was moving out, he blocked his entrance with Zealots.

Peter's Probe is still there right?

I think it's hiding underneath the 7 o'clock base.

I guess he's thinking 'There's not much to see', so that's why he's just hiding the Probe there.

When that Probe starts to scout, what will Peter's decision be, I wonder? Zealot is moving.

Soo's Zealot is chasing Peter's Probe.

Since this is a mirror match,

Peter assumes Soo's build order and is scouting now.

Peter is going for 2 Gates and Soo is.... he's also going 2-Gate right?

Since they are close together,

it's safer to have enough units in the beginning than

to either go for tech or expand.

If you go for a 1-Gate build and you are rushed by 2-Gate units,

having tech is of no use, and you just lose.

I saw Peter was developing the Range Upgrade but Soo's Core is not.

He will decide after he kills that Probe. -Right. I think so.

Even if you pretend to develop the Range Upgrade then

cancel the upgrade and build something else,

it's good to upgrade Dragoon range anyway.

But since he is assuming Soo's play, he delayed the upgrade because he's been continuously producing units.

Soo is developing Dragoon Range now and adding a third Gate.

He made an additional Pylon early and he's been adding Probes constantly.

Since he has 3 Gateways, he will go for mass units. -Right.

Soo's pushing with 3 Zealots and 3 Dragoons.

8 o'clock is better than 5 o'clock to push out with mass units.

You can build Gateways outside of the main base and

Peter made his first Pylon near his Nexus to prevent Manner Pylon play.

Thus, his Dragoons will take a long time to come out.

Peter should wait for a Reaver before acting.

Right, Robotics Facility.

Soo has 3 Gateways and his opponent is going for Robotics Tech.

When the Robotics is about to be finished, that can be Soo's chance to rush.

If you can't defend that rush, well, you lose.

Soo's units are moving and stop in the center area.

If Soo just waits in the cetner, he gains no advantage at all.

Peter threw a Probe, then he's also coming out.

Oh, he didn't control his Dragoons well this time.

Peter is also coming out from his base.

Soo's Dragoon Range upgrade is still... it just finished.

Peter is attacking the Zealot.

Peter should not chase them, though. Soo has 3 Gateways.

Moreover, Peter can't detect that Soo has 3 Gateways until he gets an Observer.

If he just chases Soo's units,

he may lose his troops to those 3-Gate mass units.

I see one Pylon there.

Peter's Probe was killed.

And another Pylon...

Soo's using those 3 Zealots as bait.

He's telling Peter 'Bring those Dragoons out!' If Peter brings them out, Soo will trap them with his own Dragoons.

But Peter is resisting Soo's temptation. -Right, he forged a solid defense at his choke.

Now Soo's building a Robotics Facility. -Right.

While Peter already has an Observatory.

Soo's just showing Zealots and trying to make Peter come out,

but there's no reason Peter needs to go out before he gets his Reaver.

He has a Robotics Support Bay. -Yes.

After he gets enough units,

he will come out with Reavers and Dragoons.

Soo's Robotics is near his natural expansion.

That way, he can defend his base without carrying the Reaver in a Shuttle.

Yeah, I see that he's expanding on the minimap.

He's making a Robotics Facility now.

That means Soo has more units than Peter.

It's good idea to defend with 3-Gate units and

make an Observer and secure that expansion.

Soo starts his expansion.

Since Soo has more Gateways than Peter,

he could've had an advantage if he rushed earlier,

but Peter only defended his base.

Ahhh.. so he built a Robotics and is preparing for Reavers now.

Shifting to Defensive mode and taking that natural expansion... that is some really stable play.

Since Peter has a Reaver now he can either harass with that Reaver or

or he can push with the Reaver and Dragoons he prepared.

Peter has a Reaver now and killed Soo's Observer.

He'll either drop or expand.

When you think about it, Soo didn't really build an early Nexus.

So Peter... uh...

It's at 12 o'clock. -How strange. -Hahahaha.

Soo may fall victim to Peter's strategy.

You rarely see this kind of play from Korean players.

He defended first, then it

looked like he made a late Nexus.

But actually there's another base running at 12 O'clock.

Oh, the Reaver is a little far away... Oh! Somehow the Scarab hits them!

Ohhhh? -Waaaaaa!

Wow, that really was a good Scarab! How did it go so far?

Yeah, that one chased them a long way.

When you shoot a Scarab behind minerals,

it usually goes around the minerals and just blows itself up.

But that one was... Soo is probably really surprised.

The speed upgrade is complete! Speed up!

Peter is really good at harassment.

He expanded to an unusual place,

and while harassing with that Reaver, he built another expansion at his natural.

He has a total of two expansions now.

Scarab!! -Soo may fall into Peter's hands.

It seems like he's focusing too heavily on that Reaver.

Soo must prepare a trap because that Reaver can come back at any time.

He's got to pull back those Dragoons a little bit. When the Reaver drops, he needs to attack the Reaver.

Wow! -Is he going to show us another 57-kill Reaver?

Soo's on the defensive but it isn't working well.

Peter isn't coming out.

Instead of coming out with units, he's just harassing.

If Soo can't turn the game in his favor,

Peter's additional expansion will start running,

and he won't be able to mitigate the economic difference.

The Reaver is dropped! Scaraaaaaab~!!!

2nd Scarab!!! -What is it doing!!

Guess it didn't have anymore Scarabs.

It didn't fire the last one.

If it had just one more Scarab, it could have inflicted heavy damage.

Soo thought he could kill the Reaver easily, so he didn't move the Probes.

That was an empty Reaver. -Soo is in a predicament now.

He got damaged now, so he is probably thinking "Should I go attack now, or wait?"

To deal back the damage he suffered, he must bring two Reavers and go with those Dragoons.

I don't think Soo knows about the 12 o'clock base. -It's hard to detect.

In PvP, they usually expand a bit later than this, after their first battle.

Furthermore, if you never played Peter before, it's even harder to detect that hidden expansion.

Soo will probably push on only the natural expansion.

After he saw Peter's Reaver play, he thinks "Peter is gong for Reaver today"

And he just trying to defend the Reaver and not thinking about the expansion.

Let's see... Soo's made quite a good amount of troops,

and his Reaver landed in a good spot!

Uh!! Soo's Reaver positioning is really good.

Peter's Reaver isn't doing well... Oh, just shot one.

It's because Peter was controlling his Shuttle.

It seems like he has to give up the expansion.

Although he lost this expansion, he still has lots of resources. So as long as he can hold his base, he's still okay.

Probes are helping!

Why didn't he make additional Reavers? There was no Reaver in the Shuttle, either.

Peter tried more Shuttle play but it didn't work well.

He had fun, but from this battle...

That Robotics Facility location made the difference.

Soo's Reavers can fight effectively right after they come out from the Robotics,

but Peter's Reaver was wandering around the Pylon.

The natural expansion is gone, but the hidden expansion is fine.

Oh Reaver, he's gotta control that one.

Aha! Soo's going to find the hidden expansion.

Probe is going... he may not find it.

Hahaha! Looks like he didn't notice it.

But the Dragoons are moving.

I guess Soo pretended he didn't see with the Probe.

Soo pretends he's holding at Peter's choke, then strikes the 12 o'clock base.

He is attacking the Nexus with Dragoons. Peter's Probes are escaping.

If Soo's attacking the 12 o'clock base, Peter must come out with his troops, Reavers included.

If Peter can't damage him now, Soo's economy will overwhelm Peter's.

The Reaver is escaping.

Peter should delay him with Reavers, but Soo is defending well.

He knew the troops at 12 o'clock would come back to his base.

His Reaver should have returned by now.

Oh, Peter wasn't prepared. -His units are all scattered now.

His Reaver is far back there.

The Probes are about to be hit by the Reaver.

Ahhh!! Reaver, Reaver!!

Peter's units are idle.

Even if he has speed-upgraded Zealots, they can fight the Reaver.

Soo is holding Peter's entrance.

It seems like the 11 o'clock base is destroyed.

Wow, those two Zealots destroyed the base. -Haha.

But Peter doesn't have his natural expansion.

Soo could've defended the 11 O'clock base but he didn't have to.

I assume attacking is more important than defending his expansion.

11 o'clock base had only a few Probes.

But he destroyed two bases: 12 o'clock and the natural expansion.

So he decided to give up 11 o'clock and attack Peter.

Soo's Reaver was destroyed, but Peter's Reaver is still alive.

Soo has more Dragoons.

He's attacking the Reaver!! Destroyed!

He must secure that natural expansion at all costs.

Yeah!! Geee Geeee! Peter declared GG.

Soo from Soul wins the first game.
