I think there's an issue with Elo ratings in TLPD right now and how they work internationally. Basically, since everyone starts with an arbitrary 2000 points, in these early stages players get as many points for beating a weak foreigner as a strong Korean player. Eventually this will sort itself out as the best players take points from everyone else, but since the K value is relatively low (20 iirc) and Koreans typically only play foreigners in certain tournaments, this could take a long time - months/years. Because of this effect right now I don't think the Elo ratings are very meaningful.

Solutions to this include:
a.) Keeping everyone's WOL rating as a starting point instead of resetting to 2000. I think this is fair since skill seems to have carried over fairly well from WOL to HOTS.
b.) Giving new players a variable starting Elo (perhaps based on ladder rank). Probably too much work.
c.) Increase K to 40 or 60 until things stabilize a bit. 20 might be too low anyway.

Thanks for all the hard work you TLPD-guys!!

I have two points both from liquibet.

If you click the on the stats of a player it still sends you to korean or international player database. I don't know if it's working as intended but I think the Hots database would be more appropriate. And the VS button in the middle still sends you to the BW database.

I've looked back a few pages and didn't see any other post about it.

This is more of a general TL thing but it relates to TLPD. Is it possible to add HotS Global to the results I get from the TL search bar?

There was an issue with HotS db giving screwy results because it wasn't fully populated so we're holding off on it, we'll transition in the coming months.

Why does the TLPD ranking on the sidebar still use the WoL database? That means it hasn't been relevant for like three months now, or is there something I am missing?

It didn't change anything for me. Names stay the same, looks like it still pulls the ranking from the WoL database, although I have no idea if that still is the WoL database or some kind of WoL/HotS merger as the top five keep changing without any of them seeming particularly worthy of the top five ranking at the moment. That's why I asked if there was something I didn't know about.

HotS ranking with PandaTank as best foreigner is also fun. :D

LucifroN is currently being listed as 'unranked' ELO, despite recently having the highest ELO of all non-Koreans and 44-16 stats.

Upon further inspection, it seems everyone who played in the WCS EU today are listed as unranked, including Lucifron, MVP, SaSe and Nerchio. They've all played more than the minimum number of games.

Can it be changed so that the name Killer defaults to the Chilean zerg Killer rather than the Korean protoss formerly known as Killer aka Swagger? Swagger already TLPDizes to (P)

That's more because there aren't a ton of HotS games so far. The rankings will start to make more sense as time goes on. Already the koreans are filtering towards the top of the rankings.
