Guitar players, go support The Ultimate Rock Thread by posting great classics! It's a shame that the thread in just less than two years hasn't even reached its fifth page.
Hello, TeamLiquid!
I have decided to make my first post on this website involve something I love playing as much as Starcraft 2: the guitar. I used the search function to make sure that there is no same thread here, and the closest thing I found was the The Guitar Tab Thread. So without further ado, let me introduce the Guitar Thread!
This is the place for people who play the guitar, classical or electric. You can discuss your favorite guitars and guitarists, post cool licks and riffs, and showoff videos of yourself shredding on YouTube! It may not seem like much right now, but I hope that this thread will grow and develop. To start it off, let me show you my favorite/dream guitar:
What is your favorite guitar brand? Mine is the Gibson.
I'm sorry if yours isn't on the list, I decided to narrow it down to the ten that I thought would appeal most to the audience, based off of numerous internet searches.
I listen to mostly progressive metal, jazz and post-rock.
How long have you been playing for? I believe you should move onto more genres of music, those songs are pretty much standard for every starting guitarist.

I've been playing for a little over two years now. I pretty much only listen to rock and metal (mainly classic, a little bit of modern), but I think I should start listening to blues.
Heh, I agree with you on the explorer, I dig the looks, and I used to really think of it as the holy grail of guitars. However, it has grown kind of like, old. The model looks too much 60 ish in my opinion. The idea is great but its just too round, and the hardware is too old in both looks and sound imo. So what I wanted to say is, when I went to buy my first real good guitar (had one crap and one mid model) I tried out many of them and the one I really loved the most for both looks and sound is the ESP LTD ex400. It sounds freaking amazing with its active pickups that generate just that much more clarity than any other guitar with passive pickups, and sounds really heavy and tight. Then there's the looks. On the picture it might not look that great, but when you see it for real, you'll be sold right away I think. It really looks damn sexy and even the hardware, aside from sounding also looks as modern as it could be.
This is the holy grail for explorer lovers:
The original explorer is totally awesome too though but I wanted to share my story of my dream guitar!
Is discussing favorite guitar players relevant too or just ourselves? As for favorite guitar its cliche, I know, but I gotta say Gibson Les Paul, 59 sunburst, though I play a stratocaster atm.

Wow, I have an ESP LTD from the Kirk Hammett signature series! I will upload it onto the OP.
Mostly play fingerstyle stuff with acoustic guitars. Planning on buying a 12 string this summer. You can check out some of my stuff here, though I havent posted anything new yet. http://www.youtube.com/user/bjornkavist
Currently working on my own fingerstyle arrangement of Norwegian Wood.
When I do play electric, me and my friends jam out to this. We can play it almost perfectly now :D Nels Cline has the best solo in it too.

To answer your question, yes. I will upload that onto the OP too.

PS it costs around 800 dollars
Forgot to add, but talking about the ultimate guitar, even though it was quite costy it's not perfect of coarse, but I'm really loving this guitar so much that if I had the money, I would buy a custom esp guitar with this body and probably the same pickups, take a 25" neck instead of the 24" it has (I like to tune low and a longer neck better allows that), and maybe, but really maybe take a whammy on it. I also have an idea of some sort of paint job I want on it, its quite simplistic (it kinda comes down to a white lined edge), but I think it'll compliment the form of the guitar. Plus when you have it custom built by ESP the build quality would be really high! Of coarse this is only dreaming because that all together would probably cost around 3k euros :D
JP6 Mystic Dream Looks and plays amazing. This is an older model in the series but it sounds much better than the newer models in my opinion. Sound sample from John Petrucci himself!
JVM215C Smaller model of the JVM410, (Megadeth, Opeth).
I also have a couple of delay/wah/distortion pedals!
Everyone looking at good affordable amps that are super versatile, check out the Egnater/Randall Module setups. a $500 used amp (randall) which have different slots for removable preamps, just like a PC card, so you can put in any preamp you want. Modules are like $100-400 each. You can also get each preamp module modded by professionals to get any tone you want. So, in one 3-channel amp, you could have a Fender Deluxe, Mesa Recto and Bogner XTC all in one. Can't beat that.
I love it way more than the Axe-FX I played, which sounds too digital to me. Dont get an axe-fx unless you want to spend years tweaking, and still probably wont get a good enough tone live (im talking as a preamp, its ok for effects.)
Here are my guitars (sadly, I don't have any pics on this computer): Ibanez RG550LTD (the blue one)
My model's pretty beat up but it plays ok. Nice overall but all ibanez guitars sound the same basically. It might work for some people but with time I got tired of the modern sound of this one.
Esp ltd 400 OW w/ 2* EMG81
Great guitar for heavy stuff. I'm really amazed that it's almost dirt cheap for the quality LTD provides.
Dean Dime-O-Flame
Latest addition to the collection, bought it about a year ago. I absolutely love this one. I have the old korean model (atm they're making them in China except for the high end models like razorbacks). It sounds great, plays great and the dimebucker at the bridge - don't even get me started on that one. It's an amazing axe, one of the best I've ever played, gibsons and music man jp's included.
Now I basically only need a decent Les Paul and I'll be all set ; )

Depends. There's a shitload of crappy fenders out there too. Every single axe you're buying - testing it first is a must.
There is no poll option for DEAN's That is my guitar and I simply love it!
