So I found this site after I found HDH. I got to know SC:BW, found out that people were starting to find out counters for cheese, and I had a crush on Nada's body. My precious 6-pool and cannon rushes were apparently for skilless noobs, the lowest of the low, and the nubbiest of the nubs. As I said, I'm not a noob, I watched 15 whole games as of this point. A few more and I'll be as good as IdrA, right? Right!
Off I went watching more and more, paying close attention to the non-cheesing builds. like "the 4 gate" and the "3 rax". No fast canons and fast lings, means no cheese right? Yea!!!
I reached a point where I found myself sufficiently knowledable about SC2. Yea that's right, I'm using acronyms. I know what DTs, VRs, and g.g. are.
Knowing cheese, macro builds and my acronyms, I'm ready to pwn.
I buy the game online - get ready for the next Boxer y'all.
I pick Terran - IdrA used to play that race so it must be a hard.
I only know tier 1 units, but I'll win before it gets to tier 2.
I play practise league and win most games.
I am ready to be placed into my rightful diamond spot. After all, TL.net knows noobs are in low diamond right?
I played my placement matches. =_=......
Game 1 ended fast, I got 6 pooled. Where are my rocks that block my entrance like in the practise league??? Its okay, the loss doesn't matter. The map is stupid - they changed the rock placement on me.
Game 2 had zealots warping in my mineral lines. I tried to kill it with 2 marines, it didn't work. I g.g.'ed and laughed it off. Everyone knows protoss OP.
Games 3 to 5 ended on the same note and BAM there it was.
It was embarrasing, stupid and unwanted. Much like when my mom wanted to drive me and my date to prom. =_= Ew.
There, shining in its dusty brownish hue is a bronze medal. It laughed at me, at my pathetic attempts to play this game. I sucked on my thumb and cried myself to sleep, craddling my legs (okay...I didn't but I sure felt like it).
I spent the next few days playing this game called Nexus Wars. It was less stressful compared to 1v1s and I was good at it. I learned a lot from the games and used them to play coop. I used what I learned about units and tried to apply macro to it. I raped at coop, it was like stealing candy from a sickly baby.
I was on a roll. I learned of the puppet Day9, the almight Liquid' clan, the rage of the Cracken, the mastery of TLO, and I began to enjoy myself (that's what she said).
I played 1v1s a lot because league games were fun if you stop feeling so bad after losses and feel good after wins, you just naturally progress with this game.
Basically, I wrote this to say my thanks to TL for putting the community behind SC. Without rooting for Jinro in GSL or meeting people here, I would never have bought the game and actually played it.
Right now: I'm in gold 1v1 playing Terran. If anyone wants to play me, I'll add you and we can play some. : D
Future1: Be known as the 2nd boxer...or 3rd if you consider MarineKing as Foxer. And rule the SC2 world.
Future 2 (more likely) : Unmarried, MacDonalds worker playing SC2 24/7. WhooooT - can't wait.
