I finally finished my final and started playing Pokemon White on a DS emulator. I thought I'd blog about few of the nice things I've seen in the game so far.
Sadly, I don't have the screenshots through out the game. But I have some screenshots starting Skyarrow Bridge, so yeah, after that point we will start getting some nice screenshots :D
Beware, Spoilers ahead.
Day 1: First two Badges.
Anyway, so I start up the game and I'm first amused by the seasons. It's "Autumn", and it would be autumn every time I reset the game to remind me of this fact. Not sure how the seasons change in this game but hopefully they wont get in the way of me catching Pokemon (since it would kinda suck waiting for seasons to change to catch certain Pokemon, although technically it'd be kind of cool)
I picked the girl trainer, although the guy trainer didn't look absolutely retarded this time around. Started playing and I was amused by how quickly they give you the Pokemon, much like RBY. I really liked that. The past few generations it felt like you got the Pokemon in a really convoluted way (although I'm probably just thinking Diamond/Pearl) and I really disliked that. This was straight to the point.
I look around and I choose the cutest one, which was the Fire Pig. After a battle (inside your own room, apparently) you find out your room is entirely thrashed and you're like "What the hell" at the mom's response who is literally more or less going "OMG YOU GOT POKEMON NOW WHO CARES ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE YOU ARE NOW GOING TO BE ADULTS ^____^". Pretty supportive mother I would say but honestly after you wreck your room like that I'm kinda amused by the parenting philosophy involved here :O
Some cheesy sappy moments as you and your two rivals go on the "first step" together. That was cute.
I grind on route 1 to catch the two Pokemon that I think was available, and then go to the first town.
The first town is nothing special. You get shown the Pokemon Center, and then you go back out to find this crazy old man who probably works for PETA talking about Pokemon liberation. The speech he gave was kind of interesting, and I kind of liked how he challenged certain things the Pokemon world takes for granted (unless you are Ash Ketchum or someone crazy).
In the meanwhile I catch Lillipup, a good reminder that Normal STAB attacks really kick ass early on. Hopefully it won't drop in usefulness as the game goes like the other Normal STAB users like Rattata or something, although it looks like this was some compromise between Pidgeot and Raticate overall
You go to the next city after (there's nothing in the first city other than a Pokemon center and this pianist and drummist who if you talk to will add a piano layer and a drum layer to the music. I found this kind of cool. Speaking of which I really liked the music in this game, but the only game's music I didn't like was RSE. Yuck.). The first gym is here, and it's an interesting concept: The gym leader changes based on who you have selected as a starter. Luckily you can go to this Dreamyard and receive an elemental monkey that could counteract this. I didn't bother using it, cause I already knew what grass type I was going to use before hand (Petilil), so I just cleared the gym using Tepig and Lillipup, it was fairly easy.
I get a TM and note that they are now infinite use. I remember having through clone items by cloning Pokemon and they were a pain... I also remember the times when I would clone shiny Pokemon and go on GameFAQs or serebii and trade them for six rare candies or something since I needed them for IV checking my Pokemon from D/P. Man, all of those days are gone (since I don't care about IVs anymore unless my OCD kicks in and I don't need to clone items anymore!)
Anyway, I continue and then quickly realize how stupid Team Plasma is -- they apparently stole a Pokemon from a little girl. Bianca is on the case and you go with her to Wellspring Cave and beat up some goons and get the Pokemon back. No biggie. But honestly I found it kind of wasteful that they would set up something that could be halfway interesting and ruin it with something as retarded as that. I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. Groan. But who plays Pokemon for the plot anyway, right? This gets worse as you go to Dreamyard as per a request and you find that Team Plasma is just kicking this Pokemon trying to get something from it. It was so dumb
I catch a Munna here, thinking I was going to use it (cause I liked the idea of a Dream Pokemon) but I found it too slow. Also, I also found my first shaking patch in this game and ran into Audiano. I wanted to catch it but I critical hit it and it died and I haven't bothered trying to get it again.
Next town up is Narcrene. Nothing special here, really. The Narcrene museum and the gym is interconnected there. A normal type gym but it was really easy with just Herdier -- I decided at this point I would ditch Pignite since it evolved into something so fucking hideous. I mean, seriously. You can imagine the disgust as
Evolves into
It was quite shocking and a stark reminder that there weren't really good Pokemon to use this gen... I mean, at least DPPt didn't have anything good, but it had staraptor and infernape, and it had access to a bunch of Pokemon from previous gens, as which Black and White apparently uses 5th gen Pokemon only for most of the game. I found that kind of sad since instead of staraptor you are left with a lame pidgeon. At least lillipup and Petilil is cool :O
Anyway clearing the gym allows Team Plasma to strike again, in which they steal the... Skull of the Dragon's skeleton that is on display. Dunno what they want it for but I think they think it's some legendary Pokemon or something -_-
You run around Pinwheel Forest. I quickly catch a Petilil (huzzah) -- in fact, I catch three with the heal balls I got from one of the NPCs and luckily I got a Timid one (yay) so I decided to use that. You run around this gym, you run into a few Team Plasma members but more amusing are these rangers that just pop out of nowhere.
The graphics were really well done here I think, you go up inside of logs that connect areas and it really sets the environment well. At the end you corner Team Plasma who returns the skull (only after knowing that "its not the right dragon") and you meet one of the "seven sages" which is a rather lame concept.
So at this point, my team is the following
I'll write up Day 2 sometime soon, after I get a little further in the game (maybe get the 4th badge or something). There will be at least be screenshots next time though :O

I hate how you get bombarded with lillipups, purloins and patrats for the first hour of the game and that was it.

Dude, your Yorkshire Terrier is nice! I heard all 3 starters this time around are shit, and the free "side-kicks" you get near the 1st gym are bad also :p You gotta rely on what you catch it seems, lol!

so you have a team of three, but you ditched the pig? so just a dog and a plant?

Basically. I stopped using the Pig and kept it around to only use in emergencies (but it quickly ended falling behind in levels).
The dog is honestly all you need for the first half of the game. The plant is pretty okay but I kind of wish that the plant had more... moves that weren't grass type

You have a much different strategy than my crude "catch the first 5 different pokemon I find and then start switching them out to get different types" strategy.

To be fair, the pig has a lot of potential. He learns a move that does some fire physical damage coupled with a +1 speed boost early on, so if you can find something to set up on, this with the +1 atk/spatk move can be quite dangerous. The only reason I ditched it was because, well, it was hideous. I should have looked at evolutions before choosing my starter. That, and Darumaka would basically do a much better job at filling the role as far as I can tell, and its evolution does not make me want to puke.

My strategy ingame is to go for stylish Pokemon, I guess, although I haven't really themed it this time around. It's honestly difficult to properly theme it considering the little options you have overall. THis is actually one of the main criticisms I've had -- I feel like I see the same pokemon over and over and over again and it's really frustrating :|

Playing some half-japanese version now (japanese names of pokemon written in our alphabet). Started with the water thingy, got the firethingy on the dreamyard too. There's a stairs there, suppose I can't use it yet? (barrels in the way). First gym was really easy though.

At least finish levelling it to Emboar before ditching it? If you're going to invest in that ROM that is.
Agree with Darumaka, I have Darmanitan and it can OHKO resistant types with Flare Blitz due to it's ridiculously high Attack, I love it :D.
My team consists of Pokemon with high Attack, and compared to Conkeldurr, Krookodile and Archeops, at the same level Darmanitan comes out wayy ahead by like 20-30 points. And it's not slow either.
I don't EV train, but one thing I noticed was that because of all the Patrats, Lillipup and Purrloin (god I need to remember the names) you fight (along with other stuff like Timburr), you get heaps of Attack EV, my Serperior with Bold nature has more Atk than Sp Atk lol ><
I named my boy character Jaedong, and the portrait shot when you battle significant Trainers looks like a death stare :D
Going to fill my last slot with an Axew and then start to consider what Pokemon to replace with Zekrom. That Hydregion looks pretty badass too.
Trying to make the toughest looking group possible, I'm not into competitive battling but I still want the right natures and stuff >< spent 5 hours getting an Adamant Darumaka.

My strategy was always: Beat the whole game with your starter pokemon. Works quite well and you pretty much one-kill everything. My Typhloshion was at level 93 when I beat pokemon gold(by defeating Red).
Anyway, after having invested so much time in blue/gold, I found the newer games to be quite...I don't know, boring(as in, not interesting anymore). I actually wonder whether there are people who played every generation to its fullest.

This is the first one I tried in a long time (I think Emerald was my last one?) and I'm two badges in. That Lillipup is all kinds of overpowered near the start though and I echo the fire pig evolution looking ridiculous sentiment

You should've chosen Smugleaf. >_>
Emboar is kinda boss though.

I love pokemon blogs <3 I don't think I'll have time to go through the game myself, so I'll satisfy myself with your updates!

Wtf, you dumped the pig? I kept him, he has a pretty beast moveset at the beginning of the game. I didn't look up his capabilities, but he's about level 30 for me and knows grass knot, a fighting move and that first fire move.
Not too shabby.
I hate how you caught that shitty dog, it can go fuck itself. Leave the dumb ape too, thankfully you didn't keep him, he's pointlessly bad.
Yeah, when the pig evolved, I cried. It has fucking suspenders now, wtf?
Second gym leader is fucked-up. You get this nice scientist dude showing you the place, then he's like: Up ahead is the gym leader...
