+ Show Spoiler +Primal Scream - I Can't Go Back Flobots - Handlebars Basshunter - Numbers
So far on my way to Korea it hasn't gone smoothly, on my flight out of Green Bay to Chicago I get an awesomely dinky plane that's totally packed and has a really bitchy flight attendant. All in all it wasn't too bad and I just shrugged it off.
I then waited in Chicago for about an hour until my flight to San Francisco left. The plane was huge, we flew in a Boeing 777. It was filled with TV's and every seat had radios built into the armrests so you could listen to the in-flight movie or one of about 20 stations. The attendants were nice and they showed "Unstoppable" with Denzel Washington, which by the way deserves its own rant.
REALLY DENZEL? THIS IS WHAT YOU WASTE YOUR TIME ON? + Show Spoiler +
This movie sucked on a multitude of levels, I'll be honest, I didn't watch the entire thing because I fell asleep near the end because this movie failed to get keep my attention due to its inherent shittiness.
So some the premise of the movie is that a train is left with power, no airbrakes, and tons of extremely flammable cargo, they describe it as a "missile on a train track".
They essential spend all of 90 minutes trying to concoct plans to stop some train that's going 50-55 mph for a majority of the film. One of the plans is to have a train of maybe 3 cars try to slow down a train of 30+ cars barreling down a train track by getting in front of it and slowing down. ROFL? REALLY? Do you really fucking think that the runaway train is going to even be slowed down marginally by another train that is going to way a small fraction of it by that point? Oh, and they combo the slowing of the train with hanging some idiot from a copter to try and get on top of it to get in the cab and stop it.
Why the fuck can't you just get a copter put him on top of it and stop it? What is the point of the second train in the first place? So of course the second train constantly hits the runaway train which throws the marine, or whoever they decided to stick on top of the train, off of the train and they completely give up on this brilliant plan.
Next they try to derail the train (in a populated area rofl) with something that just looks like a slightly larger carjack, and of course the train just plows the dinky thing over and continues on... and then I fell asleep lol.
This movie unwatchable and awful because the premise is just stupid and the plans they concoct are dumb as well. This movie should never have been made.
Once I landed in SFO I got off my plane easily and decided to call the courtesy hotels for a room. I called at least 10 hotels, all of which were booked.
I think to myself, "fantastic! its midnight and I'm 2k miles away from home and all of the hotels are booked!". So i eventually sit outside the hotel and watch the taxis go by for a bit because honestly I'm from a small town and literally didn't understand how the taxis were serviced at the airport.
Once I realized that there were employees on each end of the hotel taxi lane assigning taxis to people I promptly got in a taxi driven by a quirky Indian guy that spoke a very small amount of English. I initially say to him, "I honestly don't know where I'm going. Can you just take me to a hotel." to which he literally responds "Fozta".
I'd say if you're going to live in America you should speak English ffs, but I'm going to Korea and I don't speak much Korean so I guess I'd be a huge hypocrite .
We shuffle around between 5-6 hotels for awhile until I run across "The Omni Hotel" and this awesome manager says to me "You're going to have to leave San Francisco to get a hotel tonight."
And I seriously mean awesome, because he was by far the most helpful person I've met here aside from a wonderful hispanic lady on the BART that helped me with the train system. He had a list of other hotels he had been directing customers to since they were all filled up and he knew which hotels were vacant.
WTF? WHY WERE THE OTHER HOTELS NOT THIS AWESOME?
This guy has a heart of gold to be helping out strangers like that, I asked around for help and everyone else was a douchebag so whoever you are man I thank you sincerely.
He tells me about a place I can stay in Oakland and I call them up immediately get a reservation and take the train to 12th and Broadway and walk a few streets (and in those few streets I saw at least 15 lil wayne wannabes lol.) and get to my hotel.
But I couldn't have done that without the extremely kind hispanic woman that explained how to get where I was going and how to get back to SFO on the train as well, because until today I've never ridden on the subway before.
Tomorrow I hop on my flight to Korea where I get to do this all over again on my way to the foreigner house. PZl8 FOR NOW!

5/5 for including Basshunter in your post. I actually didn't read it after seeing that, I'll go back and read it now lol.
EDIT: Read it. I'm in the SF Bay area, in Berkeley, actually. I don't live very far from where you're probably staying.
Good luck, mate :p I remember when I got stuck in Salt Lake when I flew here the first time for school. Stayed in a hotel for the night and ordered myself a pizza at 3 am cause I was so damn hungry lol. Make the best of going to Korea :D

I'm also really suprised that GOM accepted you because i've never heard of you. Whats your ladder rank/ position?

Oh man that sucks. I hate having long waits before my next flight.
|
you trekked through oakland past midnight and you are still alive? Lucky lucky guy
|
what tournaments have you won?
|
From the sounds of the other blog he already booked his flight or something, since he was talking about staying in a dingy apartment by himself. Maybe they gave him preference because of that. Or maybe demand wasn't as high as people thought. Or maybe he's actually good (???)
|
Or maybe he's staying there temporarily until all the foreigner spots have been filled up by invites and then he'll proceed to stick to his plan of living in a small apartment?
All that said, I still wonder who he is o.o;
|
He mentioned he was above >3000 on ladder with multiple accounts, so I doubt he's just a filler and hopefully he has a shot at qualifying and all.
Good luck in GSL GT!

To everyone asking about my ranking/rating/what tournaments I've won. I'm not going to tell you any of those things, and to be frank it's quite rude to act as if you're entitled to know. That's not because I'm bad or trying to be a jerk. It's for the same reasons Day[9] plays on a secret StarCraft 2 account.
I feel that since I'm going to be in the foreigner house and I'm not some household StarCraft name (ie SjoW) people are going to have extremely high expectations of those things and no matter what I say they will not be good enough. And as a result of it I'll get nothing but flak and pretentious/condescending attitudes.
I already put enough stress and pressure on myself to perform well, so adding stress from the opinions of the community will do nothing to help. All I will say is that I talked to John on Twitter about the size of the foreigner house and if it was too late to apply . His exact response on twitter was, and I quote, "It can hold 8 people while hundreds of people have applied. If you feel u HAVE to stay at house to compete, I advise not to buy it.", and I will also make a point of saying that I don't need anyone's approval.
Thanks.

btw i pretty sure you mean you took the BART, not the train P

I've been meaning to see that movie ever since I saw how awful the trailer was (I can't resist a plot that bad). I'm glad it lived up to expectations.
And glhf in Korea!

Not sure what you're getting at, I started this blog for the sole reason of chronicling my experiences in Korea. I had decided to go before I got into the foreigner house and consequently started this blog before I got in as well.

I think I would have just slept in the airport rather than go all the way to Oakland for a hotel.
GL in Korea.
