I can PM you as well, but I feel weird for PM'ing this personal letter to more than one person. But, you know, you're only trying to help and you probably won't judge me, so I may PM you as well.

up for PM as well but I realize you already got 2 native speakers and French is probably my 4th best language. I agree with Bizball. I write letters to my gf in Korean and they're full of spelling errors and awkward syntax but she still gets what I'm trying to say anyway ^^! Definitely look into learning it. It's a wonderful language

I wish we could speak in real life because my parents are in their seventies and they are both native German speakers and I was raised speaking German as my native language. They were from Suriname in South America, where I was born. But most of the German people say my accent sounds like it's from the Saarland. Also, could you answer some questions about Germany for me? My girlfriend is born and raised in France and she is very open to traveling and visiting other countries. But she says there are so many Turks in Germany and the Turks slaughtered her people (the Armenians) in 1915 so maybe she wouldn't feel comfortable. I tried to tell her that the Turks in Germany are German by nationality like everyone, but she disagrees. Can you explain more for me? And can you please explain how my German would sound? My father was born in Austria in 1939, I don't know how much different that dialect would sound to young Germans my age (I'm twenty two), but most German people I meet say that I talk very strangely.

So maybe the best option is to have it proof read by a native, while asking him/her not to correct everything.. ps:Im a native speaker, in case you need a ten people to help you

Its very annoying, when you're French, to have to ask what your non French speaker gf/bf is trying to say, because it just make you sound like a snobbish French "oh my god your grammar is sooo bad". So maybe the best option is to have it proof read by a native, while asking him/her not to correct everything.. ps:Im a native speaker, in case you need a ten people to help you Nonsense, I'm happy for every response. I understand you when you say it sounds snobbish, but we have to be humiliated to learn further. I would PM, but endy already translated the whole thing for me. I intend to show her the letter he translated for me tomorrow, but more than one translation couldn't hurt. I have to learn this language at some point in my life. Of course, it could also just serve the purpose of me PM'ing you a personal history of me, if you're interested in that, I mean ... why not

If she would visit Germany, chances are she will see a lot of turks but probably not the bad ones (every country has those black sheep) and I honestly don't know how the history from 1915 is affecting her, I mean... I do know how it is on the other side (dealing with negative history from your own country.. srsly it's annoying sometimes to be german because of that, especially on the internet, whenever you win in counter-strike for example, you're hitler :o (that didn't happen in starcraft yet <3) so... now on to you, I can't really say how you sound of course, austrians always sound a little different, and people from Wien for example are damn hard to understand sometimes ^^ so yes you probably do sound different/funny/weird (dunno) but is that so bad? I mean as long as you don't sound like a bavarian :D (jk) so there's your wall'o'text I hope you can gain something from it, but feel free to ask more and do keep in mind, I'm just one of many germans on TL

These people are pretty much the best you could think of. But then sadly, in the bigger cities like Berlin/Hamburg (I myself live in hamburg) there are just generally people you should avoid if possible... that's my opinion at least, but that is not limited to the turks I'd say. It's just those big cities with districts you should think twice about visiting so nothing special I think. My experiences were like that of most children - being treated to fried/sweet foods, shopping for toys, and so on. To be honest, when I was a kid, there were many brown people (at the time, I didn't know they were Turks), but I never noticed a problem with them. I also don't really know how to explain my German other than to say that I have never learned modern "street German" or "youth slang" or anything like that. So I think I will be understood, but like you said, even though I will sound weird, it probably won't be a bad thing. Yeah, I know what you mean about the history ... for her, as an Armenian, she feels at home in France since all of her family's acquaintances are Armenian (her dentist, her hair-dresser, her physician, ect) and there aren't that many Turks in France. But since she is Armenian, her family holds a lot of hatred towards the Turks and they know a lot of them are across the border in Germany. That makes it awkward for me because even though I was not raised in Germany, it is my mother language and a place where I have many warm memories. Thank you for the response

But as said above, if you write it on your own with mistakes and stuff, she'll probably find it "cuter" than writing it with perfect french.
