oGsTheWinD (Park Sang-Ik) has been appointed to become the new head coach of the Starcraft 2 team oGs (Old Generations).
oGs is a premiere Starcraft 2 pro team with most of amount of players (9) qualifying for the GSL Season 2 and currently houses NaDa, MC, Gon, Hyperdub, Cezanne, Zenio, InCa, Ensnare, TOP and others.
The coaching staff lineup change comes as Spunky focuses on business side of the team. Spunky has left TheWinD in charge of the team as he will now be shifting his focus from daily team management to Starcraft 2 and eSports related businesses.
The newly appointed TheWinD is a ex-broodwar player from team SOUL (later became STX) and has experience playing in both individual and team leagues as key Zerg player for the team. He has recently been discharged from the military and has joined team oGs to resume his pro gaming career.
TheWinD has stated “I will be participating in GSL Season 3 Qualifiers both as a player and a coach. However I have yet to decide on whether to continue being a player.”
With TheWinD heading the team, Gon has also been appointed to become part of the oGs coaching staff. As a result, Gon will not be participating in GSL Season 3 Qualifiers.

Gogo oGs. Good to appoint a coach that can spend more time actively looking after the players. Does this mean TheWind will be stepping down as a player?

Agree with this.
And didn't the PRIME coach play in the GSL this year? (Could have completely the wrong team, but I'm fairly sure one of the head coaches played... :/)

I hope that this change will be good for all players on oGs and TL

I'm sure Spunky will still be doing all of the interactions with English communities. I think it's a good decision to put thewind as the coach. I'm curious if this means that wind will be stepping down as a player as well. I don't think he will, but who knows.

I won't even pretend to know enough about oGs or the team house to understand if this is good or bad. Good luck, however, anyone supporting the scene is cool with me.

i think this will be good for oGs =)

I hope this is good for oGs, not that I'd know. But I really hope TheWind doesn't stop competing, I love watching his dynamic zerg play.

Will this have effect on TL? From the sounds of it, he'll be able to help the TLers in Korea even more.

Yeah, one of the coaches from one of the teams played, I do think it was Prime. He did pretty well against gracken, disproved the stereotype that coaches can't play well haha

I mean if Spunky was playing I bet TheWind will.

TheWind is a superawesome guy. Him and Gon usually ran the day to day stuff in the house already even without the official switch. Regarding players and coaching the SC2 scene is a much more simplified version of how the BW scene was. In BW a coach needed to know which player was good at which matchup, which player was good at which map, which player should be used for overall wins and which one for sniping. Players had a lot of qualifiers going on as well as PL constantly running. Maps would be newly created each season and so on.
In SC2 pretty much the only thing that matters is GSL. There are some small teamleagues but they are super minor and people just play them because they exist not because or the prize money or the viewers. For a coach not to be fluent in English is actually not as big of a deal as our BW based intuition tells us. Spunky won't disappear or anything so if there are actual big issues he can be phoned and asked to help out. For basic stuff TheWind and Gon are great help.
This is definitely good for oGs because it basically means they are growing big enough to fill all these positions.

thanks for the insider info nazgul btw i was wondering, do they have a protoss coach?

Seems like a very logical change if you ask me.

Mr. SOOOO MANY BANELIIINGS himself I think he'll be a great influence on the team, this is pretty awesome news I was feeling a bit down on oGs because they got eliminated from GSL final 4 and all their players look kind of beat up and pissed in general, so hopefully this change will do them some good

Am I the only one who's a little saddened by this news? I mean, Spunky came up with so many great strategies, and TheWinD is one of my favorite zergs to watch. I think he was on the precipice of a big breakthrough, but now with coaching responsibilities, will he ever reach his potential?
Anyway, I'm very happy for TheWinD if this is what he wants, and I hope he continues to pursue victory!!

I hope he would still focus on his game since he's a good Zerg and we always need more of those.
