LANDogs and GameNite @ South County mall are sponsoring another 1v1 tournament on 11/21. The seating is capped at 40 people (12 seats are already reserved), and will have cash prizes for the top three spots. This is a BYOC event.
There is a $10 entry fee, and you can pre-register at www.landogs.com. The site is kind of 1999, but I can vouch that it's legitimate. I played in the last 1v1 tournament by these guys, and it was a lot of fun.
I'm also in talks with the guy running it to possibly include a small FFA or 2v2 event, but as of now, there are only prizes for the 1v1 tournament.

This is on Nov 21? I might show up if I can get leave.
|
Yup, Nov 21st. Computer setups will start around noon, and the tournament around 1 or 1:30. I'll be checking the thread regularly, so if you have any questions, let me know and I'll add any info I didn't think of or forgot!

What is the average skill level for people playing here?

Eh signed up, not sure if I can even make it (family may be in town); I wonder if I can donate my seat if I have to cancel...

I'm about an hour and a half away up around Springfield. I'll try and make it, glad to see some SC2 action in the general area.

The last event there were like 4 mid-high diamond players, a couple of low diamond, and the rest plat or less. Like I said in the OP, I'm trying to convince the guy to have a "fun" event like an 8-way FFA event with a prize, that might give some non-diamond players a reason to come out and play.

I've registered, see you all there!
edit: quick question, we bring our own rig (keyboard/mouse/pad/monitor/box) or just keyboard/mouse? or what?

An update:
I have arranged for an FFA event for non-diamond players ONLY. In order to be qualified for this event, you must be ranked in solo at platinum level or less. You must also play in the solo event to qualify, however, the FFA event will be free to play. There will be one game of 8 players (if there are more than 8 players that qualify and want to play, we will either draw 8 names, or have a quick bracket between interested players). There will be a prize for the winner only, in the ~$30-$50 range (may not be a cash prize, but if not it will be gaming related - gift card or gaming gear).
Spread the word, and make sure to sign up early if you're sure you're going to be there!

It is BYOC - so plan to bring your entire rig. The last event a few people just brought laptops with external mouse, but whatever you're comfortable with. There is room for your entire setup!

Even my set-up of the star trek enterprise bridge? because I don't think I can play my best without being in Picard's chair.
Do we register our race at the event? is there a loser's braket? and is it best of 1,3,5,7?

Register your race at the event. Last time we did not have a losers bracket, and every match was BO3. The top 4 played round-robin to decide, however, with a full turnout, I think it's likely we'll use a traditional winners bracket/losers bracket, BO1 in the first round, BO3 down to the finals, and BO5 or 7 finals. I'm speculating, though, as it isn't me running it.
The FFA will be one game, BO1, with a prize for the winner.
As far as room, I'll reiterate that last time, everyone had plenty of room. I have a mousepad thats 15" by 15" and I was able to set it down without getting it anyone elses way, with room for my gf to sit next to me and watch.

May I ask when was the last one, who won, and is there any replays?
|
Signed up. I'm brand new to the game but I think that this will be fun experience. And 6 hours of entertainment for $10 is cheap. Looking forward to it!
|
How can we confirm that the sign up went through?

Shoot an e-mail over to landogs@live.com and verify. He should be sending out e-mails confirming registration, though. Might take ~24 hours to respond.

In my experience with the midwest, there are very few people that are good. Moreso, the midwest encompasses such a large area that many of the best players in the midwest wouldn't be willing to travel.
Expect 1000-1500 diamond if I were you. I'd say that is estimating generously, but sc2 is new and there might exist and actual scene now.
