I'm gonna be honest - I originally entered this thread thinking it was going to bash the general ignorance, stupidity, and anti-intellectualism that seems to be all the rage in America these days.

The USA is kind of a big place, and he goes prettymuch everywhere. Most Americans just don't go to most of these places unless they happen to live near them.
There's great places to eat everywhere, often the best places aren't huge or fancy at all, you've just gotta find them. After all, that's prettymuch the premise of the show!

i live next to one of his places, kenny and ziggys. its really good but he never talks about my favorite sammich or dessert there but other shit

And i gotta agree, some of the best places i've been to ain't huge or fancy, but the food is just amazing. I especially like diners that are small and cozy

Unless you live close to the border or in a highly metropolis area there are very few authentic restaurants that offer high quality food in the USA. Most restaurants here are just chains and some family owned diners, but the only really good restaurants are the authentic ones, which is just bringing in food and recipes from a different country (well obviously there are higher quality diners/"american food" restaurants too). I never really thought of being jealous of USA's food, because there isn't really any good food that is unique to the USA, but I guess theres a lot of variety here.
I've always preferred restaurants in other countries more, but maybe it's just the experience of being somewhere else that makes the food so good.

I was under the impression that most of these diners are family restaurants with no chains
And yes, eating food that are.... "far away" makes it damn unique as you get to try it once or twice only.
As for the horseshoes, damn do they serve in big portions and varieties !
I'll check out Man vs food too, thanks for the recommendation )

Yeah, that show is food porn. But man, if you want a food boner, watch Man vs Food. Probably the worst thing that can happen to me at 2 in the morning. Edit: Oh hey, metaphoR has beaten me to it

A bit ironic that the epitome of american food for you is Cuban, but hey whatever floats your boat. When I'm in america I suffer quite a bit, I don't like fried/deep fried stuff. The pork with rice and beans seems an ok dish for me, no seasoning while cooking seems a bit weird but I'll roll with it untill I've tasted it. However look at all the other things, every other dish in there seems to have something that's deep fried, and the second dish even dubble deepfried. There is a lot of things I love about America but I just feel the food is way behind most european countries.

There is a diner near DC that I went to that was on the show. It is a real ghetto'ish diner (ripped seats, dirty everywhere, but the food was delicious)

I love these kind of shows. Although my diet and lifestyle won't allow me to consume that sort of food, I love watching shows like this and Man vs Food.
And just for some awesome entertainment. Anthony Bourdain's - No Reservations.
