Who do you think have more energy? The Spanish commentators for WC (GGGGOOOAAAALLL!!!) or the MBC commentators(plaGGGUUUUUUU!!!)?
In my opinion, the MBC commentators showed just as much energy as the Spanish, even though a plague means far less for the MBC staffs than a goal in the 115th minute for the Spanish.
However, the point of this blog is not just about posting two youtube video and asking the readers to compare the volume. The point is that in my opinion (e-)sports are exciting to watch at least partially because the commentators yells out of "excitements" - that is, when the commentator sounds excited, you become excited too.
I think this is similar to how laugh track works. In case you are not familiar, laugh tracks are pre-recorded sound that gets played in TV shows right after a joke is told (e.g. Friends, Big Bang Theory, etc. use laugh tracks). While some sources say laugh tracks give cues about when to laugh to the audience in front of the TV, I believe it's a conformity effect - when you think other people are laughing, you think it's funny too, or perhaps even funnier than if the laugh track was not played.
I like plaguuuuuu more because it means something game changing MIGHT happen. It's suspense and action at the same time. A big gooooooooooaaaaaal is closer to a GG. The thing happened and probably changed the game.
The spanish guys dont have any things like "SLIIIIIIDE TAAAAACKLEEEEEEEEEEEUUUUU" . They cant be as good. Ever.

I love StarCraft commentators. When the game is big and the action is intense, they really let you know it. They serve as a double function of information and hype... Whereas regular sports commentary is like 'oh, he passed to this guy... now to this guy. HE SHOOTS! hits the post... (unexcited).
They seem to only care about the end result. That's kind of the tragedy of sports in general though. The actual game is pretty repetitive, and if you're a fan you really are just waiting for goals. You can get into the nitty gritty of player switches and combinations if you're really savvy, but most people just kind of stare at people moving back and forth. In SC I think that the variety of the game is much more evident.

A person who doesnt understand starcraft well could say the same thing. A move like storming a few workers could be huge to a person that understands the game but to just some person it would seem like nothing cause noone has won yet. I do think starcraft commentators are a bit more ecstatic about things.
Also about being unexcited after hitting the post and stuff.. I think thats more situational. I mean when someone gets fouled purposely you won't see most commentators yelling at the person or something cause they have to commentate.

hahahaa lol awesome! you had me at TACKLEEUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!! what made it so funny is that i pictured a korean commentator screaming "TACKLEUUUUUUUUUU!"
Commentating makes it worth watching. Honestly I can't stand watching SC with user- and foreign- commentators, NOT because they're less knowledgeable or speaking English or whatever, but they can't simply match the energy and excitement level of the Korean (MBC/OGN) commentators. Korean commentators really know how to get the crowd involved in the game.

I would watch every sport if every gesture was blown out of proportion. No joke, and I wouldnt tire of it.

I disagree. My proof is random Korean girls and the Estro coach saying they don't play, but they love watch. Units exploding is very visceral and is something hard to miss, plus the commentators actually explain the strategy, unlike worthless hockey commentators.
I think the intensity that these Korean commentators have for Starcraft is one of the main things missing from the English casters we have for sc2. It seems everybody is trying to be all analytical like Day[9] and (most often) failing at it horribly, often saying shit like "You should send a drone to scout because sometimes the Overlord doesn't get to see everything on time." I hear this and all I can think is "..."
That's why Tasteless is one of my favourite english commentators, if not the best in my eyes (tossup between him and his brother). Tasteless sometimes gets really into it and yells like a madman.

MBCGame commentators really are the best ones on earth. They really got much more energy than stupid OGN ones. I really love to hear the sound of "Shibidaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa shibidaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" or something like that from MBCGame commentators at the start of each game. Also their "PLAGUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" or "REAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" is totally awesome. They are really better than many other commentators.
Also, for the energy and passion of the game, plz also watch brazilian or latin american (spanish talking) football commentators. They are worth watching as well.
I would say that because they are experienced with playing starcraft themselves they know how intense it can be when there is potential for game changing moves to be made. I know that even without commentary when I see the potential for a huge or game ending move to be made when I'm watching a replay it is quite exciting and there is a feeling of anticipation.
Starcraft games really can be decided or turned around in an instant and this is very exciting. In other sports there is usually only this level of could go either way excitement and anticipation during the last few minutes of games where the scores are neck to neck.
There's a lot more exciting moments in starcraft compared to other sports so it's a lot easier for the commentators (and viewers) to get excited.
