EDIT: To clarify: I forgot to say that the original english soundtrack of the movie don't actually feature any "starcraft sounds", I was talking about a more recent version made for the DVD (with enhanced audio quality etc). I never implied that the original movie "borrowed" starcraft sounds HENCE the year in the title. Stop silly posts plz.
I watched this movie a long time ago when I was young and I've always been intrigued by the fact that I recognised Starcraft (BW of course) sounds in the DVD menu and in the movie itself! Which is really wierd since the movie is way older than the game.
I made a video to show this : (turn up the volume and listen closely)
As you can see, when leaving the menu, at the time the "door" opens you can clearly hear the sound of a terran building lifting off... And at the end, when Sigourney Weaver closes that door, it makes the sound of a dropship unloading an unit...
After a while I realised that this only occured on the french audio track, so maybe there just has been some starcraft fans in the alien post-production team who had some fun changing the sounds... Still, quite disturbing.
the movie and game industries have always used a kind of sound bank for a lot of their sounds. the lift off building isn't a starcraft original, as far as i can tell.

Yeah, you can hear very familar starcraft sounds in a couple of movies, which is most likely due to purchasing and using the same sound samples.
You have quite a theory there, lol. "starcraft fans in the alien post-production team who had some fun changing the sounds" There are Alien sounds in Starcraft, not the other way around, so it's not weird that Alien was sooner :-p
It's not just effects, the terran dropship says the exact lines of the dropship in Alien 2 ("Aliens")
There is alot of people who have the idea that Zerg represent alot of what the Alien's from Alien did. I personally think of Zerg as more of a slight deviation from the Aliens in Starship troopers... Great movie.
I heard one guy who thought that Sc was a rip off of AvP, Alien = Zerg, Protoss = Predator and Terran = humans.. I can see some small resambalence but i doubt he is correct.
i remember the first time i saw that movie and i thought the dropship pilot similarity to be too similar for it to be a coincidence. more like an homage than copying though.
They're stock sound effects, like stock photography. Wilhelm scream is a popular example, and the academy sound (though I forget the name of it). The lift sound is also used in Quake (1996).

Lol I thought that just because in the english version it's a different sound. And btw that dropship video gave me the chills

The entertainment industry recycles sound effects all the time.
EDIT: for people to get a grasp just how often they recycle here is a compilation of Wilhelm.
Wilhelm was an voice actor who recorded a scream for a character that was close to dying. This scream has since then been in countless movies, including back to the future, indiana jones and starwars. Bellow is a compilation of some of the movies this scream appears in.

Thanks for the one line contribution? No examples? I agree to some extent, but with every form of media, it seems like every Sci-Fi movie has some sort of standard set by Star Wars, or every fantasy epic seems to have its standards set by LoTR. Whats more likely is that something will define itself as a genre, and everything created under that genre has to copy a small amount of it to become part of the genre.

I edited my post above with a very good example just how extreme they recycle.
