First off I only did this because he's reputable and I knew he wouldn't steal my cash etc etc so if you're worried about that don't be. I'm currently a D+/C-(on a good day) zerg and at first while we were playing I really thought this wasn't going to help me at all. It's a bit overwhelming because he's much much better than me and I just felt like I paid 20$ to get noob bashed by incontrol which while cool,(I can brag to my friends I got beat by the bear that can't DDR) I really didn't think it was going to help me. Then when we got to watching replays is where I got my money's worth. He will go over in detail the things that you fuck up during the game. No overlord here didn't take your 4th gas fast enough etc etc etc. A lot of the things that he told me were things I knew but he elaborated why it's important. I know it's important to have ovys across the map but I didn't really understand that it was so I could setup my army for flanks etc I knew I had to scout his gateway count but I wasn't really sure what the difference between 4 gateways and 6 gateways meant. It's the elaboration on the subtle things that are important. For me I think we both realized quickly that I can become flustered easily and just go straight into panic mode. Overall it was worth 20$ and I'll probably continue once I've worked on my absolute terrible points that we discovered together. Pros: He will help you even if he tells you all things you know he will elaborate and explain different reasons, that you may not even be aware of, for why you should do different things. On top of that he will relate the things you do well to how you can improve the things you do poorly(for me this was drone saturation and most of my building timings) Cons: It's a bit discouraging and you're not going to beat him unless you're already pretty capable of competing with him and it may frustrate you but he won't just let you win to make you feel better.

Thank you! I will possibly do something where I implement a sparring match between two similarly ranked guys. I can see how it would be discouraging if someone is D/D+ and just wants to peak at C- for them to get smashed for 2 hours. I am glad you were able to see the positive side to this though. ALl in all I think even with that being the case it can be really productive (as you said). I will think ont his though

However the Sparring partner idea I don't like, I'd rather get bashed by someone higher than me than barely win against some scrub who was just as unsure of what to do as me, while it's more discouraging it's way more helpful imo

I'd wanna play vs you for those two hours.

Btw I'll back this suggestion up Geoff. I'm trying to help a friend get into the game now (really low level, so the fact I'm not the greatest isn't noticable). He's learning Zerg, and right now our big focus is ZvP; his mechanics, timing, builds, etc. are all very terrible, so I'm playing very very standard FE Protoss to let him improve those areas. I could proxy this, proxy that, reaver drop, whatever, and he wouldn't learn as much I don't think. Plus, it's a better benchmark for you, the coach, to see how well they are learning as you can see how much better they get with timing/decisions against the same build over and over again -> are they learning anything from it? How quickly are they improving? etc.

Doing the best I can to make this as helpful as possible I will definitely be thinking these things through so I can improve. Thx <3

Expoing seems much more natural now and I'm keeping minerals down, I've got a few reps to show you soon This is awesome to hear. Ty for sharing that.. the other guys haven't been telling me hehe.
