I switched to zerg. I've been wanting to for some time. I used to play Protoss- not because they are noob friendly but because I used to genuinely like playing them most. I play on iccup about half the time but mostly with chinese players on VS Client. Playing with chinese is totally different than on iccup. first of all the maps... chinese play Luna, LT, and if you are lucky python. I know it's afwul. The other distinct difference is play style. Anyone who watched the recent Idra routing by the hands of F91 can see how different his style is form so-called standard play. His BOs were not as "up-to date" and he was overly agressive (by western standards). Chinese have a much more micro intensive style and love to play aggressively. Anyway, I used to win about 50% of my games against equally skilled players with protoss. I have won 80% of my games as Zerg so far. One factor is that low level players (below C) have trouble understanding and keeping up with zerg I think. Zerg has so many options and is easily the most liquid of the races. If you fail to scout a zerg who has a plan and the mechanics to make it happen you're in trouble. Also Zerg can tech switch on a dime. My current modus operendi in training with the Overmind is to play as aggressive as possible. this doesn't mean foolhardy but rather aggresive strats. like three hatching before pool against an FE terran or 9 pool speed and waiting till the optimistic 5 marines and 3 scvs goes to try and bunker rush me and sneaking in his backdoor when he is half way to my base.
I want to make the other guy beat me with micro. once i feel comfortable with the first 8 minutes I will start work more on focused BOs and strats. This is 1) so that I can practice my zerg/hydra/muta micro and 2) to mass tons of games which will naturally increase my decision making speed and MU familiarity. I'm not interested in winning games right now. Winning means you are not learning. Playing 30 min games is not beneficial for me at this juncture.
These past few days, I have had much success with 9 pool speed (against T and P) followed by two hatch muta into expanding, and 4-5 hatch hydra assaults. One HUGE mistake I made was when I went for a Hydra break against a player many levels better than me and forgot to bring ovies. I hid my 3rd hatch in the corner of my base on luna from his scout probe and made it look like I was going to go mutas. I then pumped upgraded hydras (w/ +1 carapace) from 4 hatcheries and was getting ready to storm his natural with 3 control groups when the DTs came... I didn't bring an ovie and thus lost my timing. despite getting my 3rd base... he expanded, stormed up and I GGed. I love losing games like this because I learned something... I know exactly where i failed and so there is no frustration. these are the games i like to play.
There is only one mistake... that is failing to learn from mistakes.
Im really happy to be playing zerg and look forward to a weekend of training.
EDIT: the weekend is here. game one with new omninmo ID was a ZvZ.. .my first one ZvZ on desti I cancel my lair and go speed when i see his lair.. then i make a timing attack just as his spire finishes for GG.

I've recently switched to Terran from Protoss after a 8 month break from StarCraft. I've been playing for 3 weeks, taking a rather similar approach. I'm also planning to train very rigorously this weekend so perhaps we could mass game with each other. My ID on ICCup is SoShi[Shock].

@JWD i prefer to think of it as daoist. hehe. or chan buddhist..which in japanese is called Zen. it's all the same thing which is simply seeing the emptiness which allows for all dynamics.
"thirty spokes in a wheel but the empty center allows the wheel to roll. a bowl has a shape but it is the emptiness we use to hold water. a home has four walls but it is the empty space inside in which we live.
substance provides the conditions for usefulness but it is actually the nothing that we use. " this is a rough translation from memory. i think its daodejing chapter 11

yo yo yo where can i find this VS client? i wanna try playing there

Well, i switched form Zerg to Terran, because, as a starter, i didn't quite get the Zerg economy and was unable to decide between drones/units and stuff. I picked Terran cause i don't want to play Toss. My intention was to get the feeling of macro and to rise my apm from > 100. I played for like a week and my macro was improving a lot and my apm rose to about 120-140. but i havent played in days so idk where i stand atm.
Good luck in ur improvement plan!

VS Client It's in Chinese. I'm looking for an old video I made about how to downlolad and install for those who cannot read the characters. You will also have to use version 1.13f which can be easily sorted out with this amazing tool. Version changer

if you are playing in china and on a good connection there will be no lag. its china so there is no antihack or anything... sometimes you play cheaters.. deal with it. but it works for CS, war3, sc, fifa etc. puts you in touch with hundreds of thousands of gamers.

I recently switched to Zerg from Protoss, haven't really looked back since apart from the odd few fun matches where I take the warriors of Aiur.

yea, i played some protoss last nite on lan with my friend since he wanted to play zerg. it was pwnage for me and fun to be back in the saddle of buildings with queues but today its back to zerg training for sure.

Yeah switched to zerg a few months ago from toss. So much more exciting than toss, so much more to do and the battles are just better overall.

if anyone wants to play some games i am on iccup IGN omninmo

Just won my first six icccup games (as zerg) in a row..thats right im 100% with Z lolz... 3 games were against D and the other three were against a D+ with like 2800 points.
then i find out that since the game settings were on melee i dont get points for the first three.. woe is me. anyway, zerg rules... my game sense, micro, and timing were on spot... i mostly 9 pool or overpooled into early harass/contain followed by mutas and mass bases. god i love zerg.
here are some of the reps ZvZ ZvT desti mosu ZvT desti mosu 2 at this point he was like, remake on python pls... i obliged and the rape continued
