Before when computer gives some notice due to some bad inputs it's a "ding dong" sound, it's pretty quiet and I could adjust its volume.
For instance, when I open MSword, type something, then attempt to close it. Windows will prompt me with a message "Do you wish to save this file?" accompanied by a "ding dong" sound.
However, now it doesn't do that anymore, now it gives me a HUGE "BEEP!" and it's quite annoying because it's super loud and irksome. I cannot tune the volume of this beep sound(always seems to be on maximum) and I can only stop it by completely muting all sounds.
Any help?

Hmm... I had a similar problem that I solved yesterday. Try right clicking ur background, going into personalization->Sounds and look around in there, it worked for me.

check out your configuration panel > sounds and audio there you should have a tab with all the warning sounds etc.

Hi I am in sound and audio device properties, but it's no good. I played around even making things into "No Sound" yet it still makes loud beep.

I got a problem where my comp beeps 5 times every time you turn it on. I couldn't do shit about it so I just took it in and now people are fixing it. You might just have to do that.

uhh dgtl you should read the thread before you tell him to do that... the beeping on startup is error diagnostic, this is just that beep when it's like OMG DO YOU WANT TO SAVE?

Sounds like it's using your system speaker since there's no wav set (annoying, I know, happened when I emptied my recycle bin, til I pulled the thing out. Probably not an option for a laptop). Random thought: make a silent wav and use that for alerts, etc. I'm sure there's a better way, but meh. :p

Possible Simple Solution: Drivers. Make sure the correct drivers are installed. When I reformatted my desktop, it would just use beeps through the system speaker to alert me of anything. I simply reinstalled the correct speaker driver and it started working normal (no annoying beeps). Maybe the software your dad was trying to install messed with the drivers or something?
