Sooooooooo i wanted to start a new BG2 game and to use some mods ( also this blog could help Ghardo because he asked me what are the good mods for BG2 ).
So far i have installed :
-unfinished business - tactics ( i want a real challenge ).
I want to know what are the good npcs mods ( valen ? saulofein ? ) and if there are a few more "light" mods like UB ( i dont want huge off topics quests mods or mods with imba kits / items ).
And i'm also very annoyed by three things ( i need answers because it makes me mad ).
- Why my level 8 thief with 16 @ constitution get 70 hp whereas i was on "easy setting" when i created this char. I should get 8 X (6 + 2) = 64 right ??? I hate when i don't understand the rules ... ( and that how it worked in BG1 at least ).
- i also didnt wanted to do a BG1 run again but i wanted to get the +1 books. i have tried with cluaconsole cheat but i can't use the books of charisma, wisdom and int. ( str dex and consti works ). When i create those books i can't put them in the "fast inventory". Any solution ? i'm too lazy to learn how to cheat my chars with some editor .

Oh and can u sleep in tactics without getting attacked ?

"There's a bug in the BG2 engine that will grant an extra hit die worth of hit points in Easy or Normal mode at character creation" according to google.

Is there a game out that's running 4.0 rules? Not that I approve of them or anything

mods I never play without: G3's BG2 fixpack (not really a mod) G3's BG2 tweak pack Quest Pack Sword Coast Stratagems 2
the npc mods I've enjoyed most: Angelo Xan Amber
|
Use Sword Coast Stratagems 2 instead of Tactics. It does most of the same, and some things better (or at least more realistically).
Cheating character stats is easy, just use the program Shadow Keeper. Last updated in 2001 or so but it works well. Dead simple to use.
And don't forget these mods (the first three improve NPC interaction a lot): - Banterpack - Romantic Encounters - NPC Flirtpack - D0 Questpack (adds a few smaller quests) - Assassinations (I still haven't played it yet since it's quite new but it looks VERY promising. Probably best with an evil party) - Fixpack + Tweakpack

Ok guys. Tactics seemed really uber lame. I mean each time i try to sleep in the Irenecus's dungeon i'm attacked by a fucking druegar mage buffed -.- I use my spells to kill him and then i have to sleep again
I will try to cheat the stats too and to reduce my hp
edit: i will still try to beat tactic illycht ( it is said to be the hardest fight in BG2 mods ^_^ ) just to brag.

Best NPC mod I've ever tried was the Imoen romance tbh. It's just incredibly well written. All negative opinions I've ever read regarding the mod was from people who quite simply haven't tried it.
It doesn't add much to the gameplay part of BG2, only bad thing is that so far there isn't a ToB part yet, so I ended up shevling that savegame and hiding it in some folder, then uninstalling the mod, otherwise I'd never be able to play ToB again, heh.
Oh, and regarding stats, I'd just use shadowkeeper. Yes, it's a savegame editor, but there's really nothing to learn, at least for just changing stats. Just open savegame, write new numbers for the stats, save the edited file. Hardest part is downloading it, but sorcerers place should have a download link somewhere. ^^

Improved Ilyich is a joke. Really, it was meant to be a joke.

Not that I know of.
The 4.0 rules would be fine for a video game, they just don't suit the tabletop game that well (too combat-focused).

You think it is impossible to beat with a normal starting team ?
|
No, it's quite possible to beat and even solo.

Wowowoow u mean with a level 8 char "naked" ? ( only with the items you find in the dungeon ).
So far after like 5 tries i only get the demon at wounded level and illytcht and his friends at lightly wounded. But those fuckers use their potions
- my assassin and Jaheira are completly useless. I gonna try with confusion or mind control but i guess that they have top notch saves vs spells lolololol
:D
Oh and i still don't know how to kill the golem :D Gogo Imoen with dagger +1 ---> fail.

sdfsdfsdfjksdjklghjsdkhg after 25000 tries i managed to lure llyich and to kill him but just when i give him the last blow his fucking mage friend come and send a fire storm ... bye my char and Imoen .. GG i have to try again
another try:
i kill Raspoutine then the fucking Glabrezu spawns near to my party ... Guess what i don't have anymore spells and all my char are almost dead ...
|
Are they smart or what ? When i try to lure one of them his friends always come
Seriously they aren't awesome alone but:
- two level 20+ melee warriors - one level 20+ mage - one level 20+ ranged warrior - one super golem - one super demon + all the random shit in the dungeon
it is a lot for 4 naked level 8/9 chars
edit: i killed Raspoutine !!!! [x] Raspoutine :p
edit2 [x] glabrezu ( two hours later ) ...
edit3: [x]golem [x] Ilyich ( about 50 min later ... )
edit4: [x]karamazoff ( 20 min later ? ) [x]zhivago
GG fuckers ! :p
edit: i checked the info.txt and the three warriors are only level 12 ( but buffed with some kickass abilities and items ). the mage is 20+

If you use SCS2, there's an option for that... I like having it enabled because the tactic of luring single monsters from a group to kill them one by one is sooo unrealistic.
Btw for some fun also enable Add high-level abilities (HLAs) to SoA mages/priests - ouch.

I still managed to lure them :p. I used the gayest strats to win, ( i used normal difficulty settings except when i leveled up ). Btw i didnt even use Yoshimo or all the items / spells of the second level to make it harder. That was super funny. First i lured Raspoutine and managed to find a weird "angle" so that his friends couldnt see me. Then i lured the demon, it was super hard to kill him because none of my weapons worked on him. I had to kill him only with spells ....( mostly Imoen level 1 spells ) Then i lured llych, and it was the most difficult moment because i barely managed to kill him then the golem showed up. I was like "WTF" even +1 weapons don't work. So i had to use a new trick. I walled the golem with two chars like Nada vs Gorush with medics in the famous game on luna. Then i used one char to take the weapons of llych ( he has a +3 ) whereas his corpse was behind the "wall'. Had to use some tricky moves to make another wall then i gave the weapon to Jaheira and GG golem. The two last were way easier. I killed the mage with spells / bow combo. then i used some spells and a nymph to take down the crossbowman.
That was fucking epic. I think i didn't see more difficult moments even when i solo-ed BG1 ( Maybe in the tower of Durlag but after the first level i gave up anyway and used two more chars ) It also remembered A LOT the game commando 1. You have to play like in this game. Abusing IA and using weird "angles".
Also it is very funny to try some fights considered "hard" in normal BG2 after this. There is a group in an inn on the first map after the dungeon. And i remember that i got raped in my first BG2 run. Now i killed them without even being wounded. LOL
About the mods: - I will try to find the romances traduced in French and also the npcs - I will try to find Stratagem too but i might stick with Tactics even if it is completly imbalanced ( just because it is so hard that it is fun ). If i got bored i might change . - I will also try to find assassination because my char is an assassin :p ( he also sucks balls but i will dual him to priest around level 20+ ). ( he will be even more useless during a long period of time ^^ )
A few more questions: - I want to have an evil party: soemone has already tried solaufein and valen ? ( i heard those mods are really good but are a bit "imba" ). ( Gonna try those that mindcontrol named but i don't know if they are evil )
edit: waiiiiiit. It is the same Angelo than in BG1 ? :p
|
Sounds crazy lol.
Can't say anything about new BG2 NPCs, haven't played with any yet...
LOL I think everyone got raped by that party in the inn when playing for the first time. But they're really not that tough even when you go there straight after the dungeon. Just use some good spells and positioning...
I hope you have the "always toughest random spawns in towns/wilderness/dungeons/etc." options enabled for Tactics, that should provide you with some quality "entertainment" too. The SCS2 version is also very nice, quoting from the Readme:
Increase difficulty of level-dependent monster groupings
At various points in the unmodded game, BG2 chooses the strength of the monsters you face based on your level. Typically there are four encounters, and which one you get depends on your experience level.
This component causes the game to give you somewhat tougher choices; there are four options available. "Mildly increased difficulty" causes you to get a fight one step too high-level for you; "significantly increased difficulty" gives you a fight two steps too high, and "almost-maximum difficulty" gives you the hardest possible fight whatever your level (with one exception: see below). Other ability-dependent components are modified in a similar way to try to achieve the same effects.
The only exception to the general rule is the "spawn-undead" script, whose highest-level setting causes liches to spawn. SCS II liches are so much more powerful than vanilla ones that it is nearly suicidal to take them on at lower levels (at least without cheesy tactics), so even on the "almost-maximum difficulty" setting they don't spawn unless you have at least 1 million XP. If you really, really want a massively-hard-to-injure undead archmage dumping Pit Fiends and Horrid Wiltings on you at 8th level, install the fourth option, "maximum difficulty".
This component is rather like the "always tougher spawns" component of Tactics, but it's rather more customisable (and, since modding tools are much improved since Tactics was written, it installs in a way that's less likely to mess up other mods).
The maximum difficulty would be just the thing for you, right? :p (I have played it on "significantly increased difficulty" and the random encounters were SO GODDAMN HARD I got really paranoid when travelling etc... and I completely avoided walking through town at night (always rested till day). I don't want to know how it would be on almost-maximum or maximum difficulty...)

hahah seems awesome i really need to play it. It changes completly the game, now i really use my brain and i respect my opponents.
I wonder how insane it would be to solo BG2/TOB with the hardest modules of Tactics / Improved Battles / SCS 2 / Ascension / Redemption on the hardest difficulty setting. So sick.

Try it... But really, soloing isn't really harder... some people find it easier because it's *much* easier and faster to micromanage just one character instead of multiple ones (actually that's probably the biggest reason why the RPGs where you only control 1 character are more successful nowadays and party RPG games are a dying breed)... and you get all the good stuff for yourself, you never have money problems, you can buy dream equipment very early, and you can buff up like mad from the tons of potions, scrolls etc. you find - you don't have to share... That said, enabling all the crazy options will likely make the game impossible, whether soloing or not. Or you have to reload 30+ times during some fights. Not really worthwhile...
