Haven't checked myself, I caught it on Reddit. But if they haven't started laid off then it's even worse. Laid off and restructuring the scope should have been done months ago imo

I didn't post it in here but I did PM another poster in this thread that November 12 was the "D Day". So ya, pretty much right on schedule. They're running out of money. On the reddit of Stormgate the 2 most upvoted posts are about #1 the Frost Giant layoff and the #2 is talking about ZeroSpace and Gates of Pyre upcoming free weekend. 51 and 37 upvotes.

In general that is true, and it's hard to judge without knowing which departments these were. They also recently hired a new art guy, and it's fairly normal for games to shift from groundwork to art and models later in development. But the game engine still needs a lot of work, pathing/optimisation needs improving. The UI is mostly incomplete and missing hundreds of promised features.

Do they really think that 3v3 will all of a sudden be a resounding success? Again, I'm not saying they're not desperate, or they're not in trouble. Just something doesn't add up to me, or they will do one final big marketing campaign for 3v3, maybe starting in December, for their last Hail Mary. Otherwise, I don't feel like the company is acting as if it will be dead in Feb 2025, as was the projection. Of course, I'm sure they're keeping their cards close to their chest ... Interest rates are dropping and stocks fully recovered from their 2022 drop by Oct/Nov of 2023, after the initial "private equity venture is drying up" discussion. It's not inconceivable that the funding landscape has at least improved substantially over the past 14 months. The US economy is still very strong. We can't fully trust Tim Morten's statement in that one article that "the financial projections we've seen are wildly inaccurate", but I assume he doesn't want to mislead investors either. (Unless FGS is saying something more "realistic" behind closed doors that we don't know about). 3v3 needs to be a big enough of a success that allows them to go to investors to secure additional venture capital. They need to show something/potential. Is it likely, no? But from their perspective, it's the only thing that has any chance at working out. They reasoned that further improvements to 1v1 wouldn't matter and that campaign likely would take more than 6 months of work to properly get good. All financial projections are wrong, ofc. We are speculating about the future and guessing. Tim Morten could simply have said that the assumptions about the future are wrong, but obviously the current financials them selves aren't. He isn't lying per se but rather he is clearly being somewhat deceiving - but that's quite typical from startup founders so nothing unusual there. I think the thing you seems to be missing is that CEO's needs to fake it until they make it. If people lose trust in the project, it's over. He needs to retain optimism for as long as possible - otherwise current staff will lose motivation and the few remaining player count will leave as well.

There are games made by 1 to 5 people that generate the level of revenue Stormgate does. This game is getting devoured in the Steam Shark Tank. Investors know these straightforward facts. The best, most productive employees know what is going on in the industry and inside Frost Giant and will be the first ones to leave because they are the most in demand.

All the scummy behaviour from FGS made sure the game would never recover even if they made it decent

I was still willing to give the game a shot despite this. When I did play it though I experienced numerous performance issues despite my PC well exceeding the requirements to play the game. I watched some streams, but then decided it wasn’t for me.

I think even folks who don’t like that kind of style would have held their nose and had a great time if it was remotely close to as good as an SC2. I think some consciously don’t really think of it, some do like myself but unconsciously I believe bad sound will kill a game almost as surely as graphics. And man, Stormgate’s sound fucking sucks. With some exceptions, the Celestial theme is really bloody good for one, but actual gameplay effects are so anaemic but also pretty indiscinct. Gimme just pure audio of an SC2, BW or WC3 battle and I could tell you what’s happening. That’s a Goon squad firing, that’s a bunch of Zealots triggering mines, that’s a bunch of tanks firing, that’s some goons exploding into blue goo. Etc etc
