To be honest I hoped they shaked more the skill meta. More and bigger buffs to unused skills, some kind of rework to melee skills so they are better, etc. Stuff like bleeding, melee posion, etc too. Even Chaos DoT skills nowadays have pitiful dps as bosses have more life every league. And maybe some new skills or new support gems. After last 6 months it would be nice.
My opinion is that lately you have to use really meta skills with good innate damage so you can invest in defenses to survive the one shots. If you use other skills you often don't have enough damage or survivality (this is specially a problem if you play melee). This was less extreme some years ago when you had more options in builds for finishing the ultra lategame content.
But I don't see any buff or change that interest me enough for ignoring the defense nerfs. Right now I'm kinda dissapointed (but I will play anyway). Let's see the league content and patch notes.

Yep my thoughts too haitike. The nerf to Seismic Trap won't be enough for it to not stay the to go skill for bossing. I'm pretty disappointed in the buffs to underused skills, they don't make sense and won't make these skills good enough for the new bosses. Well, aside from Sunder maybe which looks like it could be decent now but you'll require nutty gear to make its dps viable for uber bosses.
At first I was like - is it minion league??? Then the nerf to the charges ruined that completely lol.
Hope there are some other changes coming - otherwise it will be rough to choose a build for me that I know will be good and new for me.

Hm, the balance manifesto is kinda boring. I understand most of the nerfs. Having easy access to a super tanky char for a couple leagues was nice but was also already getting old at an alarming rate. There is no build crafting behind it. Just slap Determination, Grace, Defiance Banner and Molten Shell on every char and get Suppression capped via gear, done... I like when I have to think about what to take and how to fit it in. I think the change to DD skills is super boring. I liked the fact that you didn't need to level them. The minionchange is equally boring. It feels like they try to make every skill the same: Levels should matter the same, gear should matter the same, the skill tree should matter the same... Why? Just embrace those quirks, it's ok...well, not only ok but a lot more interesting. The buffs are very uninspiring for the most part. None of the skill buffs make me want to try any of those skills. The fortify buff is welcome, I hope you can reach max now on melee without running a 1000 dps weapon. I don't understand the Juggernaut change. Is that a nerf? o.O Curious about the Trickster change. That's the most promising of them all if they keep it for the reveal stream.

Just a quick update: I have leveled the build to 93 and it's doing so much damage. :o I haven't tried any of the new Uber Bosses with it yet but the smaller the Endless Hunger and Black Star were so easy, I just decided to complete the conditional challenges for those. I can also kick Elder into the portal phase before he does anything... I'm honestly surprised it won't get hit that hard according to the balance manifesto. Will level my support gems some more and then try some Uber Bosses. Thanks again!

Does that mean PoE2 will be an inferior version of the original?

not only inferior but also useless 'cause you can't make money of it.

I'm going to play SSF all the league for the first time (always played trade before). The league seems fine for SSF with the reworked uniques, reworked harvest and the league mechanic. And archenemsis rares dropping more stuff.
I will miss having divines though.

Be aware that unique drops will be more rare in general and probably a lot more rare in some cases. Don't plan a build with a mandatory unique based on current drop chances (unless otherwise farmable via div cards).
I have only watched the announcement stream + Q&A so far and it looks good so far. Pretty excited and I already have some ideas for builds I want to play. Possibly seeing exalts being worth 10c or so is going to feel weird. I like the new mark. It's not only going to help with bosses but with clear, too, if you use mark on hit.
I'm still playing Sentinel. Trying to finish a nutty ring with >60 chaos res and > 80 ele res. I also attempted Uber Eater of Worlds (lost my last portal at 5%) and Uber Cortex (pretty easy with Seismic). Also beat the Feared for the first time since Ritual.

Not sure on that Miragee, most of the uniques aren't too exciting and merely OP for leveling. Yes, there are exceptions, but the majority of them I can see the drop rates staying the same.
Absolutely unsure what build to play. New Obliteration seems pretty cool with something like EK and then going Occultist poison or something, the versions I tried making seemed pretty glass though.
Also the Kalandra league is probably gonna be one of the best just because of the Harvest changes. Also liking the Beyond changes. Only thing that could be a pain is the fewer amount of rares and the apparently much stronger (or at least more tanky) rares.

Well, they said they are reducing the drop rate of all uniques across the board, didn't they? They have also looked at the tiers of rarity and moved items around. So I would assume that some items drop a bit more (moved down in tiers), most will drop somewhat less (same tier but overall reduced drop rate) and some will drop significantly less (moved up in tiers).
As for the build: What about going with elementalist chaos ignite with Obliteration corpse explosions and the new mark?
|
I haven't kept up with the reveals, why on earth would they reduce unique drop rates. It just drives people more to have to interact with the horrid trading system and completely fucks over everyone playing SSF.
Let people play with the stuff they want ffs. I swear GGG's attitude towards players having fun is just depressing.

What they said is that players are getting showered with uniques atm. making most of them worthless. What they are trying to do is make them rarer but more "punchy" when you find them. At least for the lower tiers I really agree with them. Up to Tier 4 rarity included, you just don't care about most things dropping nowadays. And even above that they are so common in trade that most of them are worthless. I got my first Shavs this league for example and I would have been really excited about this back in the day but now it's just "nostalgia excitement".I personally like the trade system in PoE so for me this change should turn out to be a positive thing. Also: We don't know the numbers. All I'm saying is you shouldn't blindly build on a unique in SSF now. It could turn out to be completly fine but you could also get screwed, who knows...
Btw. I can understand where you are coming from if you are playing SSF or loathe the trade system. A lot of uniques have div cards though, which will ease the pain a bit for SSF.

The new mark is basically just for skills that hit slow but strong. So if I wanted to use it I'd go Hexblast poison or ignite probably.

Well, not necessarily slow hits but large hits although that often goes hand in hand. I just thought 20% explosions sound good for big ignites.
|
Yeah but the slower hitting skills tend to have big ignites. That being said, from what I understand most of the skills can be ruled out since you want something that makes the big ignite only and not little ones inbetween, like Incinerate or Divine Ire for example do. Flameblast might be the very best and they showcased it too. The Hexblast idea wasn't very bright, since you already to hexes for it.
EDIT: NVM, while it applies new ground only once per second, it would still work well with those skills. I personally see it as a slight / medium help for ignite builds to increase their mediocre bossing dps, similar to Flame Surge. Not sure if these builds were the most needing, as there are worse archetypes (melee for example), but it definitely wasn't good at bossing. Just very nice for mapping.
|
From my understanding it only takes the strongest ignite/poison on the enemy anyways, regardless of whether the new hit applies a weaker one.
With alternative quality DD or Flameblast you could go full chaos damage + Shaper of Flames and then either Perfect Agony or Blackflame to scale them together? Definitely not a league starter though... And not sure if that's worth it, either. :D
|
i wish this game wasnt all about speedrunning and fighting millions of enemies at once. i like small slow encounters not spamming health pots.
|
yeah, its one of the reasons why I don't like headhunter hyper juiced endgame farming. when you are a giant who can barely control your char, off screening everything... barely feels like a game.
