And I am sure that if you are a little bit old school and want something a more "chill" than Starcraft, but still action packed and strategy based, you will love it!

I usually play H3 every few months but only hotseat with a friend or against cpu. Can imagine that playing against humans is a completely different game. Question: he only uses one hero here, is this a feature of this game mode?

It's also usually played with a short timer, you can see it at the beginning, they get 2:00 - 1.00 - 0.15, that means: 2 minutes at the start of the game 1 additional minute at the start of each turn (= day) 15 seconds per fight:any remaining "fight time" is lost when the fight is done. If your fight takes longer than 15 seconds it counts down from your regular turn timer. If your regular turn timer reaches zero during a fight you can still complete that fight, no matter how long it takes, but cannot complete any action after the fight other than selecting between secondary skills for level ups) It plays quite differently than the "regular" HOMM3 matches on more standard templates where you usually play with up to 8 heroes, longer timer, etc. Conserving timer for certain situations is more important. Army composition might be different (some units lend themselves better to timer critical fights) The betting is done on most templates, not just this one. Factions are not as well balanced as Starcraft for example (would be much harder to do anyway, since there are a lot more factions). Current game modes and online game rules have positively influenced balance for multiplayer (for example only 1 DD per turn depending on template size, nerfed necro, etc, too much to really get into). Generally speaking most modes are played on 160% hard, which gives you 10000 starting gold. Mostly they let the game select a matchup at random and then bet some of their starting gold for the right to choose which faction they want to play. Other player gets the other faction. Afterwards they bet for color (red or blue) In case you are not aware - they start with simultaneous turns until a predetermined turn. Once sim turns end red goes first (if they encounter each other during sim turns or clear the same monsters or something, sim turns interrupt and blue has to replay his turn once red is done). However, for blue mana is replenished at the end of his turn and for red at the beginning. That means that once blue saves his turn and then gets attacked in town (with a mage guild) during red's turn he will have full mana. If, however, red gets attacked in his town during blue's turn his mana will not replenish, it only does so at the beginning of his next turn. Generally speaking at high level it's better to be red in most cases though.
